  1. Oh, but Demon, Whizzer, American Eagle (especially red), Viper, Raging Bull, Fiddler's Fling and Lobster are most definitely worth your time if you are into fun rides! Great America is probably the best run Six Flags park and has the best VARIETY of any big park with both new, old and unique rides. If you're just a creho have fun at Magic Mountain, Cedar Point and Great Adventure. For me, Great America is where it's at. No one has a disco tunnel and a 55 degree snapping drop on an old Arrow coaster that they just wanted to make steeper than Turn of the Century (the west coast Demon had it's drop changed in the 90s to make it more family friendly). If you want record breakers exclusively even though they aren't as much fun as other rides then have your other places that cater to that, there are many and they are popular in our community. But do you! Do what you like.
  2. It would be great if someone could make this an awesome place. I don't know all the companies but Hershend seems to be the one taking Kentucky Kingdom and perhaps turning into a charming dreamlike Dollwood/SDC kind of park. Let's hope it works, I hope it does. Holiday World is stiff competition, no one will ever out do those wooden coasters there.
  3. So sad, there are so many people in the world that need help. The place looks incredible, but it's too bad about the labor treatment.
  4. So happy when a park upgrades what they have (you there, Magic Mountain?). I don't normally care for GCI's work on existing rides - they have removed most of the airtime on most of the rides they ever worked on - except Ghost Rider. So, let's hope this is redone with that same spirit. Kudos the Silverwood for improving the great rides they have as well as customer service, Holiday World added 2nd trains to Raven and Legend years ago too. Very cool. I wonder if that Tremors train could be a 2nd train for Timber Terror?
  5. Would preventing one years' HWN attendees from going to the next year help? It would be more fair that way. I started going to SRM (Stark Raven Mad, which was eventually renamed Holiwood Nights) in 1995, went most years until 2021. Haven't been in 3 years and it's tough to see people bragging "yes! Got my tickets - 7 years in a row!" I mean, I'm happy for them... Despite my disappointment about not getting tickets - yet again - I'm glad they are limiting the event. It was getting overcrowded. I would think 2 weekends would at least appease more people, not that any park needs to appease anyone. I'm also happy they jacked up the price, they were giving away so much. Nobody has ever treated coaster fans better than Holiday World. (Parks used to treat coaster people like royalty in the old days - 80s... but the privilege was abused, lots of inappropriate behavior and drugs <including alcohol> ruined that.)
  6. Oops how did this happen. This park seems cursed. The original owner of the land didn’t want an amusement park put there, but they did anyway.
  7. Went to the park for Pride night on Saturday, the new front entrance is coming along nicely. Lots of new things that are clearly NOT Six flags... concrete squares instead of blacktop, etc., and all the rides were running better than last year. Seems everyone's favorite of the night was Eagle (red), running like a bat outta hell. MaxxForce is back to 2 trains again; easily the most comfortable *new design* trains I've ridden in a couple decades; that ride is my favorite launcher (besides the old Schwarzkopf shuttles).
  8. I had my hands up for the first few rides I took, until I rode the back seat alone (nobody else wanted to ride back there). It owned me (in the valleys, as coasterbill mentioned), and then I braced with 2 hands and 2 feet. After all that, I heard the rule. I love flat track, even if it's elevated. It adds variety and great scenic views, can't wait to ride it again.
  9. Patriot was great! Sit up straight and brace yourself. Not a hands-up ride (and it's a rule, too, I found out).
  10. Can't wait to ride it tomorrow! So happy to see the shoulder bars are off and it can once again run the way it was designed - shoulder bar free. Anton never had shoulder bars/pads on his rides. My friend who lives out there has been riding the heck out of it now, says it's a completely different ride.
  11. Cyclone runs faster these days because they took out all the snaps that throw the train off the track. They took out the best parts; every single hill has been parabolized (not a word, but you probably get it.). We don't have many classics with flat seat left, I'll love it while I can. But yeah, GCI got ahold of it a few years ago and did what they do. They even took out the minuscule airtime from CP Blue Streaks' first drop. They don't want the train leaving the track, where they can prevent it. Cyclone is still an awesome ride, but lost it's terrifying drops/fear points.
  12. The juxtaposition of "Earth Day" with a map of LA
  13. I vote for Magic Mountain and all the SF parks to focus on taking care of and improving what they have. All those rides are used at a fraction of the capacity they can handle; many have old rough spots, add more quality family rides .... like a monorail and open the Tower. Improve flow to and from rides - I'm talking about the 1/2-mile long not-wide-enough-for-a-wheelchair exit ramps from many popular coasters - at ALL big six flags parks... that crap creates fights. I just checked out the google map of the park, as you guys were talking about the homes moving closer at the back of the park. I'm not sure how old the google map is, but there is still space that looks like its being cleared... isn't Socal oversaturated with everything already? The homes look like prisons, made me think of Clockwork Orange. Probably just eco-housing, I hope they are nice inside (pure bright white with lots of sharp edges, class and steel?) Dang I gotta get back to get on X2, Revo and Ninja... some of my favorites! But the park has gotten so not fun in the past few years. I hope they make it what it could be, sure deserves it.
  14. ^Probably on the crowded side. Unless you like long lines for drinks and food, pack your trunk if you can. Hope you like the park, I always say it's the best in the chain ;)
  15. Looking for input on crowds for tomorrow, Sunday May 28th. I know some holiday weekends are crammed, but there were always some that were dead. I can never keep track, and have had SFE (Six Flags Exhuastion) for years. I just want to know NOT when to go. Is tomorrow one of them?
  16. B&M giving us variety! It's always a good day when it happens... which isn't much. Looks like a tester/test track more than a big B&M, but good for them! They can do anything. Except laterals haha Not fun in bucket seats anyway.
  17. Does the spike really do that? Or just sarcasm? Can't tell Seems more controls and track switching would complicate the operation.
  18. Those are beautiful posters! Thanks for sharing, miss this place. I'll never forget how beautiful and intimidating Texas Cyclone was... and how dang tight those curves and drops were.
  19. It looks great... I asked about the length b/c it definitely looks longer than the one at Dollywood. Waldameer can't go wrong, love the place. A rare class act, top notch everything. I'm a huge fan of Comet... that special smart AND classic station.
  20. Wow, that's gonna be a huge hit for them. Looks nice and long, does anyone know the lengths of the longest water coasters and where this lies? I seem to remember the Dollywood one was on the short side (after riding those at Holiday World especially).
  21. I've learned not to trust the posted hours the day of... for years they started closing the park at a drop of rain during the week. They would say the weather wasn't safe, but really its "oh well, we ain't gonna make enough money today so shut down and send everyone home." Not to trust pretty much anything about a SF, sadly. They have so many good people, they just don't know how to train them correctly.
  22. ^Those are fun! From Americana in Ohio I presume?
  23. But, when it does open... I bet it will run close to the projected capacity. The crew will know what to do in any common guest situation; the station and queue will be clean. The communication in the station will be clear and the walkway into and from the ride will be relatively close to the midway/main walk way. There will be good accomidations for ADA folks, and minimum crowding in station, and station exit (the turnstyle will be at the entrance of the staion where it belongs). In that respect, it will be totally different than Six Flags. Let it open late, let it open in 2025. At least it will be operable and user-friendly. Cedar Fair has higher standards, so what if it's late
