Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
MidwestThemeParks replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It is by far my least favorite of the 3 dive machines in the US. Whatever you do avoid the back row, right side, edge seat. Our favorite place to sit is front row, above the track. Also, don't go in expecting any good airtime because the vest restraints kill that sensation. That's exactly where I say on my first ride and it was great! On our next ride we were put in the front middle which surprised us (it seemed only FL people got to ride front row and we didn't have FL). -

Yeah, I don't think I would like to be stuck on a ride with over the shoulder restraints and not being able to look around. I've been stuck on the lifts of Mamba at WoF and Renagade at VF (twice) and those were both fine because I could just look around and enjoy the views. The Mamba one was really nice because that was a 95 degree day without a breeze, but there was a breeze 120 feet up in the air so it felt a lot cooler for those fifteen minutes and they even gave us a free cup of ice water (and said they would've brought it up to us because of the heat if we were stuck much longer) Our trip to CP in June was actually the first trip I've ever taken to a CF park without getting stuck on a ride -
B&M Restraints: Old vs. New
MidwestThemeParks replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The restraints on Maverick are not similar to the new style B&M restraints. I personally love the new style B&M restraints. Being 6'4", the new style restraint are more comfortable for me. -

I disagree with everything in this post. I love all of their B&Ms and what is wrong with Skyhawk? All the Screamin Swings I've been on are awesome. MF is the only giga I've ridden, so I can't compare it but there is no way it's the worst one. Magnum might be a little rough but it doesn't need to be removed. Gemini is fun but definitely not better than TTD, MF, Maverick, Gatekeeper, or Valravn (my top five in the park). I haven't been to the other parks so I can't compare. That is how I would react. -
B&M Restraints: Old vs. New

Raptor has the old style restraints. He's talking about Raptor at Gardaland, the wing coaster. Oh, I was just assuming Cedar Point Raptor because he mentioned other CP coasters -

I'm not sure, but they are making it sound like something else is coming. Edit: it also doesn't seem like CF has made many big investments. There's only been one brand new coaster. -
^I would think that they would go with the smaller tea cup spinner then follow it up with the bigger coaster. But, the B&M rumor was thrown around way before the Mack spinner rumor was, so maybe that would come first IF your speculation is correct. I'm still not sold that a coaster isn't coming in 2017, but I don't think one is considering how much they usually tease for these big projects (unless it is a smaller coaster/addition in their opinion).

Yes. That's the only reason why. Yeah, I'm not buying that crap. Like you, I can't see any evidence that this won't be for 2017. Anyone can pick a year that sounds pretty. But, if this were to be for 2017, I think there would've been more teasing by now. So over the past months this project has gone from "a coaster in 2017", to that coaster being a B&M, and now in just the past few months it has changed to a coaster coming in 2018 from a German manufacturer. If this ride was originally going to be a B&M coming in 2017, you would think they would've already had the plans with B&M and been ready to start construction. How do they change manufacturers after doing that and why would they? I won't know what to expect from this coaster until I hear an official announcement from SDC which could be anytime between now and next August/September. Edit: Also, according to Screamscape, this is still under 2017 project rumors.

Dollywood Discussion Thread

Same. I usually have to sit slightly forward and flex my core so hard to keep from being absolutely stapled into my seat to the point of discomfort. That's my strategy when I ride the Screamin' Swings. Not because I'm uncomfortable, I just like to be loose on those rides . Speaking of Screamin' Swings, do ride operators push the lap bars down on Barnstormer? As far as I can recall, yes. In fact I feel like they don't want you to do anything and they do your entire restraint for you. That's how it was at Silver Dollar City last week and I think it was the same at Dollywood (I should know considering I frequent Dollywood but I can't remember). I find those S&S restraints harder to fake than most. No matter what I do, they always get them down tighter when they check. A loose ride on a screamin' swing is great though. Yeah, every Screamin' Swing I've been on (SDC, VF, CP) has the workers push down the restraints. But apparently at Dollywood they can't touch the restraints on any ride -
It's very possible. It's not there is a law that requires them to build/announce something new every year. If it's suppose to be as big of a project as it's rumored to be, I could see them holding off till next year to make their announcement. Well they obviously don't have to, but it's hard to get new people to come when you go multiple years with no new attractions. I would think they would at least want to do something at White Water. Also, with how much clearing and rumors there are with the 2018 project, I'm not sure how long they'll be able to hold off announcing it. Are we only thinking this is coming in 2018 because that's what PhantomPoster told us? I don't get why they need until 2018 if they already have so much land cleared.

I don't understand why they can't help push the restraints. I've never been to a park where the employees don't help. When I was at Cedar Point, I saw two employees helping a large guest get his seatbelt on before they put the lap bar down on Millenium Force. On the same trip an operater even put down my restraint for me on Gatekeeper because I had just gotten in the seat that she checks first. How often would someone get injured because the employees helped with the restraints? -

Is this the third mat slide at Splash Country?
