Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

If they added a launch, it wouldn't be that different than any other steel coaster launch in terms of reliability, I would think. I'm sure they would be very careful to avoid have Lightning Rod issues if they were to have a launch. Also, we still don't have any proof that the issues with Lightning Rod were due to the launch. -

The metal detectors shouldn't slow things down that much, I would think. Disney World has them in all of their parks and it still doesn't take long to get in (after you deal with transportation, of course ) -

^ That sounds like a personal choice. I don't think there is anything special this year that you won't get next year. Plus, you'll have Mean Streak next year. If you can't go this year, the park should be just as great, if not better, next year -

I don't get why people can't speculate on this site without their ideas getting shot down so badly. No one has any idea what this ride will be like or what features it will have, yet there are people acting like they know what this ride will be. I also don't think this will be a dueling coaster, but we have no evidence proving that it won't be. I don't understand why people get so angry at those giving ideas as to what this features this new ride may have when the only information that we have of this ride's layout and features are minimal photos of uncompleted elements. This is going to be a very long teaser campaign leading up to the announcement if every teaser turns into argument. *end rant* -

Wouldnt they have to make the structure twice as wide to be able to support a dueling coaster and add a lot of extra structure to support the load? I feel making a regular coaster into a dueling coaster would be more work and money then it would be worth. -

Dollywood Discussion Thread

That's one of the reasons I dislike when people complain about how they would never stay at on-site hotels because of the expensive prices. My family stayed at Hotel Breakers when we went to Cedar Point and it may have been more than $250 a night, but you get free parking for the three days we were there (which would cost $15/day otherwise) and the tickets for the four of us were $30 each for each day and included the water park (a one-day ticket to CP and water park is usually $70). So, by the time you take out those costs the room ends up only being about $75 a night. Parks seem to do a pretty good job of providing enough benefits at their on-site resorts and hotels to make them worth the extra cost. -
Part of me really hopes they leave it like this. One of the slightly annoying things about Thunderation is the long walk through all of the unnecessary switchbacks. I agree the switchbacks are unnecessary, but I feel like walking through the switchbacks is part of the tradition of riding TNT and I am actually sad that they aren't using them.

Dollywood Discussion Thread
MidwestThemeParks replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not Dollywood, but I've been to Cedar Point on 90+ degree days with high humidity and all the coasters remained open (although with likely shorter lines as everyone went to the water park) Once I was at Worlds of Fun on a 95 degree day and Mamba was constantly breaking down and I'm pretty sure I remember it being because of the lift motor overheating, but it was nice getting stuck 100 ft in the air because there was actually a cool breeze up there -

Ive only ridden Outlaw Run and it has a pretty fast lift compared to most coasters I have been on. No matter how good this new coaster is, I still don't think I'd be able to put it above Outlaw Run. That double barrel roll is hard to beat. -

^I like how they are still only doing Iron Dragon VR at night so that people can still ride it the normal way and the wait times during the day aren't longer because of it. -

I was ten days old when Milllenium Force opened and didn't even know it existed until a year or two ago. I think I would put Outlaw Run above it, but they are kind of hard to compare to each other. Either way, they are two of the countries (or worlds) best coasters! -

Seeing as that the Boss of this webpage said no, those photos would not be allowed...... But it's a little bit different if they are with a park official who allows them to take photos then to take pictures from a drone or some other source. -

So would this mean why Valleyfair, Michigan Adventure, and Dorney Park have been taking so long on cronstruction of all their coaster projects is to have it over serval fiscal periods? Exactly... Every year CF puts a $20 in the jar for these parks. They'll get their coaster soon enough If my math is correct, Dorney should be.... Last new coaster- 2005, hydra. This year- 2017. 2017-2005= 12 years. So, at 20 dollars a year, there will be 240 dollars in Dorneys jar right now. Basing this off of a B&M coaster, going to say the cost of said coaster will be 30,000,000 USD. 30,000,000-240($ already saved)= 29,999,760 dollars to go. 29,999,760/20(money saved per year)=1,499,988. So Dorney will not see its next new coaster for another 1,499,988 years. Well let's hope there isn't any inflation in the next 1,499,988 years -

But not everyone is going to do that. I personally don't see HFE starting to sell alcohol at either SDC or Dollywood in the near future. What would it benefit them to start selling alcohol? It would just create more work for them and like others have said, people aren't going to go to a park for alcohol. -

I don't know how people can pick their favorite coaster at CP, I can barely pick my top five favorites because of how good they all are (except Corkscrew, of course ) -
Now I know this doesn't relate to SDC, but I feel like ZambeziZinger (PhantomPoster) does get unfair treatment on this site sometimes. He makes a good point about most information on this site being the "word on the street". I also feel like some posters are meaner to him than he is to others. End. About the name, I was hoping for the mining theme, but I trust SDC to create an amazing roller coaster with top-notch theming like they always do. I'm just glad they didn't go for the rodeo theme.
