Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
MidwestThemeParks replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Based off of these quotes taken from the website, I don't think they are completely tearing down Mean Streak. They tell us to keep watching for what's coming next and also say pay your respects to the parks WOODEN thriller. Maybe they say this because it no longer will be a wooden thriller, but RMC will convert it to steel. -

Like I've said before, I think CP needs to take a break from coasters. They've gotten a coaster or coaster transformation for each year since 2013! 2013- Gatekeeper 2014- Pipe Scream (questionable year, I think it's close enough to a coaster) 2015- Rougarou 2016- Valrvn In those years, the only family rides they have gotten are Lake Erie Eagles and Pipe Scream and there weren't any new rides at Soak City. I think they need to focus on family/children rides and Soak City. Now, I would like to see a Mean Streak RMC transformation, but I'm not sure it's the best thing this year. Maybe Mean Streak has gotten to the point where it's not worth the cost to run it because it seems to have less riders than nearly anything else. If that's the case, then I understand doing it now. Also, I think it might be coming now because of how early this announcement is. If it was water park expansions or new flat rides I don't think they would make an announcement on August 1. If I had to guess, I would expect them to announce a ride closure tomorrow (Mean Streak seems like the most likely ride to close). They would probably keep the closing ride open until the end of Cedar Point Nights (8/14). At about that time, I would expect them to announce the replacement for the closed ride. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they had multiple projects this for 2017. I think this announcement is for the most major project and then they could potentially be getting a new or relocated slide(s) at Soak City. But, knowing the amusement industry, everything I just said is probably wrong . -
Will B&M ever top the charts?
MidwestThemeParks replied to Password121's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
imo, it is the best B&M in the park. I love everything about Gatekeeper, especially the short lines . I personally didn't like Raptor much, probably because of my height. Rougarou was fun like all B&Ms are, but there isn't really anything special. Valravn is my second favorite B&M in the park, the actual ride feels pretty short to me. -
But, if Cedar Fair has never gotten one of the smaller versions I don't see why they would start with VF. The smaller version only seats 32 people. With how long it takes to load these things and the length of the ride, the line could get insane on busy days. I think it would be stupid to get the 32-person model instead of the generic 64-person model. Who cares if there are empty seats during the week? If they're going to spend millions on a ride like this, I think it would be worth it to spend another million or two to get the larger model so capacity won't be an issue if it doesn't have to be. Spoken like someone who has never been to Adventureland and witnessed how quickly they can be loaded. Slow ops on these things appear to only be a CF phenomenon. Oh and not to mention this model hasn't suffered any issues like the larger ones have. I've been to Adventureland. When I was there last year Storm Chaser was closed because they were buying a new part at Walmart. Even if they can be loaded quickly, I still don't think it would hurt the park to spend a little extra and get the larger model. Why make capacity a potential issue if you don't have to?

I don't know, Gatekeeper and Valravn are a lot of fun. Unlike most people, I actually like the vest restraints they use on these rides. -

At least it happened only an hour-and-a-half before closing. People would've been much angrier if this happened early in the day, causing the park to be closed almost the whole day. At least those who were there all day still got nearly twelve hours. -

It's only been two B&Ms in a row. They still have more Arrow and Intamin coasters than B&M. Technically 3 if you count Rougarou. And I was speaking about Cedar Fair in general, not particularly Cedar Point. I was counting Rougarou. I was considering Pipe Scream a coaster haha, just kidding. Yeah I definitely didn't think of Rougarou. But either way, I will never complain a park getting B&M coasters no matter how many they have done. They are by far my favorite coasters. I love how smooth, intense, and reliable they are. -

Worst Coaster Ever?
MidwestThemeParks replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've never ridden a ride that someone wouldn't be able to get me on again, but I really don't like Mean Streak, the VF and CP Corkscrews, or the Dragon at Adventureland. Also I'm not sure about Timber Wolf, I rode it in 2013 and it was terrible but it's had some retracking since then, right? -

Also Thorpe announced two opening dates and planned two passholder previews and cancelled them with short notice, but Thorpe obviously doesn't have the presence that Dollywood does. Dollywood are handling the situation better, yes Ghost Train has now opened (although it seems to be experiencing its fair share of breakdowns, as you'd expect), but at least when Dollywood knew it would be late opening they didn't announce a new opening date without knowing if it would be ready or not. Disney never do a 'Grand Opening' day for their attractions, they soft open and test and adjust from there, it's a sound practice and the guests that get to ride have it as an added bonus, not a disappointment, more parks should use this approach in my opinion. But Disney is also open year-round. Seasonal parks want their rides to be open and ready when the new season begins. -

That does kind of look like a clue. "Iron Horse" on "Frontier Trail". I don't think that they would put those two beers on there just by coincidence. -

^this For all those who say that can't go in May because of school or whatever, it's also pretty dead on weekdays in June. The park really doesn't start to get packed until July. I would highly recommend doing what we did and going weekdays in June. We missed no school and still got re-rides on everything without ever buying FL passes. Like I said earlier, I would never invest in FL passes before seeing what the crowds are like for the day I would need them, unless maybe it's a Saturday in July or August. -

If you go on weekdays like we did (Wednesday-Friday), there is NO reason to spend $90+ for FL+. We were easily able to ride everything multiple times with minimal waiting. On most rides (especially on Wed. and Thurs.) the general line was already past the point where FL people merge. Therefore, FL riders and non-FL riders had the same wait times for nearly everything, with the exceptions being Maverick, Valravn, and sometimes Millenim Force. Now, if you can only go one or two weekend days (Friday or Saturday) then I would completely understand buying FL+, but I don't think I would ever buy Fast Passes in advance for any park. My luck I would buy it and then the park would end up being dead. I know that they can sell out, but, if they are sold out of FL passes, would the waits really be that different? -

Every time I have been there late evening it's been shorter, but still long compared to the others you had mentioned. While Raptor, Gatekeeper and in your example Banshee are walkon at the end of the night... Valravn I have yet to see shorter than 20-25mins perhaps. It's not on the same capacity monster scale as the others... Trains often stack and line moves pretty slow for a beemer. If they only had a dedicated unload station...! For a line that looks only like a 10-15min wait, it ended up being 35mins due to the slow operations. If that same line length was at Banshee, it would have been 1/3 the time. One night when I was there (a Thursday) it was only a ten-fifteen minute wait but rain caused it to shut down before we got on. The line didn't seem to move that slow when we were there, and rarely was there a train in the station and two stacked behind it. One thing I like about Valravn is the monitor that they have showing what seats are locked and the load time. Whenever I was watching that screen load time would be between 60 and 90 seconds. -
Ride Outlaw Run and Powderkeg early since they are temperamental and often crowded. Everything else, other than shows, can be worked in whenever. You consider OR to be temperamental? I'd for sure consider Outlaw Run temperamental. We visit the park every other weekend, and every time we are at the park Outlaw Run breaks down at least twice a day, that we know of, I'm sure more than that and we just are not aware of the other break downs. Huh, I never notice OR broken down when we go.

I haven't ridden Wild Eagle, but I'm sure the views from it are just as amazing as the views from Gatekeeper, or Wildfire at SDC. -

I agree. That would be five years in a row of coasters (depending on your definition of a coaster). 2013- Gatekeeper 2014- Pipe Scream (the questionable year) 2015- Rougarou 2016- Valravn 2017- Would be the new Mean Streak conversion I think they can take a year off from coasters; they need to build things that appeal to other audiences. -
What is your next park?
MidwestThemeParks replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Lucky. Mine is probably SDC, Valleyfair, or Worlds of Fun. But I probably won't get to another park this season -
More like a launched dive coaster (make that work somehow) with 76 inversions The train is pulled up the hill by chain, rolls over to the holding brake, and the train is accelerated while it falls, making you fall faster than gravity. That's one way to do it! Then we should also have a loop taller than the drop. That would be a first
