  1. Thanks for your reply! I have ridden only Storm Chaser among the RMCs, and my impression is that they are a little bigger space-wise than MF. My dad was able to do MF last time there, but just missed out the first time this year (after being cleared at the test seat, for the information of the guy that was claiming there was never any difference between the two). I would love for him to come to Dollywood with me, so hopefully he feels slimmer, and confident enough to give it a go!
  2. Dang... Not only did I use up all 20, I actually used some of my dad's as well! Apparently, I'm a bit if a lush! (Like I said, GateKeeper was mind-blowing afterward! )
  3. Wow! This thread has become a steaming pile of pontificating poo! To get back to the simple question I asked prior to all the back and forth about what constitutes acceptable or proper weight... To those of you who have ridden LR already, who have also ridden MF (probably the least fat-friendly coaster I know of), how do the restraints compare? Are they similar in clearance? Or is MF clearly more restrictive? Just looking for opinions on that specific question here, no arguments, and certainly no interest in "fat-shaming" type of comments...
  4. 1. Smoky Mountain 2. Goat Coaster 3. Gatlinburg 4. Snow Mountain Thanks for this info! When I go down there later this year, I am hoping to at least do a couple, so it's nice to know which are the best!
  5. I'm completely with you here! I've been on both TTD, and KK (which I prefer to TTD, actually - at least in the front), and while they are a rush, and I have them ranked decently, they are certainly not among my favorite coasters, both because of their overall brevity, and also the fact that their huge height is mitigated in its impact, by how quickly you're up there and back down again... After reading the first post I quoted, I realized that my list should have actually looked like yours, but like you pointed out, completely forget about it even existing, or being as tall as it is!
  6. I saw my son and me a couple of times, most notably during the "Michigan" chant part, and a few times from the back during the off-ride shots. I wish they had used some of our awesome and expressionate front-row filming shots, because we sold the ride WAY more than anybody else they did show, but oh well... I'm sure Cedar Fair policies stepped in, and said "Don't show them! They have their arms up and are having way too much fun to be in a promotional video about our rides!" Still, a great experience, and definitely a fun show to watch! (And now I'm trying to find out how to be invited to that "Speedclub"!
  7. ^^And THAT was freakin' awesome! Something like that, out over the water, would be really freakin' awesome!!!
  8. Dang! I just saw a POV of the Timber Mountain Log Ride, and it's freaking awesome-looking! I'm bummed I didn't ride it when i went there years ago (though, it was before the refurb, so maybe it wasn't as good.) I've always had a soft spot for flumes (not as soft as coasterbill's, but still not bad), and this one looks like the king! I will definitely be riding it next time I go!
  9. Actually, there is virtually nobody, at least here in Central Michigan, who would consider Six Flags competition over Cedar Point. Obviously, I can't speak for the West Coast, but other than proximity, and people saying it's the case on this forum, I've never heard any fellow Michigander talk about Six Flags being a destination consideration before Cedar Point. Don't overdo it Bert. I hope he's able to "conquer" whatever amazing thrill rides they manage to throw at him at Michigan's Adventure. Have you been to Michigan's Adventure? Shivering Timbers is very much an elite, aggressive, and thrilling wooden coaster, and that's the coaster he "conquered" at Michigan's Adventure. He also did the Pro-Slide Tornado in Wildwater Adventure. Of course, he plays everything over the top for his show, and acted all scared and stuff on ST. But who knows... Maybe he's not a big "coaster-guy", so it really was "scary" to him. I'm just saying MiA is pretty lame, yes, but ST is as legit as it gets!
  10. I'm still trying to figure out how three people quoted my last post in a response, and yet none of the responses made any sense in relation to my post... However... So much this! I couldn't believe they put VR on that ride, of all their options!
  11. Idk they've done more one of a kind RMCs in the last 5 years than anyone. I don't think that's what this is, but Six Flags has proven to be unique and cutting edge in at least that one area!
  12. Okay let's calm the f**k down for a minute.
  13. ^This is definitely an issue with those RMC trains... I was at an enthusiast event at KK a little over a week ago, and virtually every train during our ERT session on Storm Chaser was delayed, and took forever to dispatch, due to somebody always having a really hard time fitting. The ops tried their hardest, and in the end, some were able to get cleared to ride, but many others were not... I'm hoping to convince my dad to come down with me for Thrills in the Hills, and he sounds game, but he's worried about fitting, if he goes all the way down there for LR. He didn't fit on MF the first time went this year, but did the second time... Anybody who has been in both MF's and LR's trains, and may be a little larger in size, I would appreciate any perspective on how the two restraints compare. Thanks!
  14. I'm sure this location has been said a bazillion times in this thread, but it's a glaring answer for me: The Pacific Northwest! Seriously, how on earth do places like Seattle and Portland not have a decent sized amusement park nearby??? I know Vancouver has Playland, but for many people, border crossing isn't an option (and besides, Playland isn't the largest park ever.) I know every time I think about how beautiful Seattle is, and how much I want to live there, I remember there are no legit amusement parks or roller coasters anywhere nearby (in the States), and I quickly change me mind!
  15. With a true water slide, I would agree. But it's considered a "Water Coaster", and definitely operates under some different parameters than a typical water slide (such as upward propulsion), so that's why I wouldn't put it into that category, specifically, at least personally. Considering it's way more exciting than any flume, splash down, or rapids ride I've ever been on, that would seem to bump it up into another category as well!
  16. Thanks for sharing! I was there for the filming, and will be pretty shocked if my son and I don't feature prominently at some point during the show, based on our film session!
  17. It depends on which "local park" you count... If it's the park nearest to me, Michigan's Adventure, then you're looking at once a year - at most! More often, not that frequently. If it's the park I consider my "home park", Cedar Point, then it depends on whether I have a pass or not... If I don't, then a couple of times, usually. If I have a pass... Well, I've already been four times just this year, so...
  18. Awesome that they have finally gotten it officially open! Now, I look forward to an announcement of Thrill in the Hills reschedule date, as I've already paid for my tickets, and want to finally be able to finish planning my Summer out! Can't wait to get on this beauty!
  19. I can testify to this! Storm Chaser never. Lets. Up. Absolutely amazing coaster, with airtime as forceful as anything I've ever ridden (usually more so!)
  20. I've actually come to a peace with what Michigan's Adventure is! I appreciate that it's a great waterpark, and one of the best Wooden Coasters, and a nice place for families with younger kids to come spend a day! (The SLC is still terrible though, I'll never appreciate that!) I do think it's a waste, compared to what its potential is, but I don't really let it bother me anymore. Besides, I don't even consider it my "local park", really... Cedar Point is, and always has been, the park I go to most frequently, and consider my "home park". There was a period before its closing that Boblo Island was that, but mostly, it's been CP. I need to respectfully disagree with your first statement, as I believe as much as I believe anything, that's exactly what CF was concerned about when they bought the park. Imagine if Holiday world was in our state, and for people in Central Michigan (where I live), it was an hour closer to go there, instead of Cedar Point. That's a lot more casual amusement park attenders going there instead of Cedar Point, than there are currently. I feel like you pretty move proved my point with your second paragraph, and that's the same attitude I hear from locals here around Central Michigan... If Michigan's Adventure was better, and actually got new additions, people would go there. But they don't, so why bother... Its great attendance numbers and profits for the chain are driven solely by the enormous Lake Michigan Summer draw, and its convenience to that. CF saw a chance to make some easy money with little investment, and also stave off any potential competitor for the solo-park a year attending people of their second largest market... I'm not disagreeing with you, but if that's the case, I don't understand the logic. Even I the highly competitive SoCal & Orlando markets, there are people who attend multiple parks throughout the year. Plus, having a good park locally for those in Michigan incentivizez them to get a pass Which would only further encourage them to travel east to the Point. I think cedar fair would find a good synergy with both properties if they invested more into the smaller parks. I'd love CF to give me a reason to go to Michigan. I've also heard Grand Rapids has a booming craft beer scene. Kalamazoo was pretty good given its size, I'd love to sample the brews from a larger city... Just... Need... More... Of....a...reason...to...visit... I think regarding KI and CP (in the above poster's post), and the competitive SoCal and Orlando markets, you're looking at an entirely different situation. KI attracts people from many different states down there, not just Ohio. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if more of their attendance comes from Kentucky, or even Tennessee, than Columbus or parts of Ohio northward. Additionally, it was a larger, and much more established park at its purchase, and really provides a nice counter-point as a larger destination park. I think MiA could as well, but that's many years down the road at this point, and it's profitable now, so why bother changing it? As for the other two locations, both are tourist heavy areas, year round, as opposed to out of the way Michigan, which does have a nice tourist season, but only in the Summer. I agree that both parks (MiA and CP) could have a good synergy, and I know, that if MiA were like Holiday World, which was the trajectory it was on, many more people like yourself would have an extra reason to make the trip of the West Coast of the State and visit. I'm not saying I agree with CF's tack when it comes to handling the park, just stating that I am convinced that at the time of the purchase, that was the intent. A lot has changed since then... Maybe, just maybe, they'll start investing more in MiA now under the new regime. However, more likely, Matt Ouimet really seems to want to give each park its own identity, and as such, will likely want to keep it making great profits, as a small, family-centric park, complimenting the Thrill Capital that is Cedar Point. And I'm okay with that now! I just do think wistfully sometimes, about MiA, and what might have been, had CF not bought them, and sat on them all these years... When even parks like Knoebels and Adventureland can add new and exciting coasters like Impulse, and especially Monster, there really is no excuse for MiA not to be adding things like that as well...
  21. Make sure you do it before you start having kids then! Not saying I don't love my kids more than anything (because I do), but most of my coaster credits are from before they were born, just sayin'...
  22. Are we not counting rides like Wildebeest at Holiday World? Because that's my favorite water related ride by a mile! If not, my favorite would have to be Dudly Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it when I rode it years ago!
  23. I hope planning and developing managers are taking notice, this is what the people want! ...Exactly!... CF Development, this is what all RMCs at your parks should look like! Seriously! This is what I keep thinking... I'm not exactly sure why park operators these days, especially prominent park operators who are arguably the leaders the amusement (not theme) park field at this time (and have far more resources than parks like Kolmarden, and even Kentucky Kingdom), continue to intentionally build inferior product, when the ability to create things like this, and even greater models, are at their fingertips! Very puzzling... Hopefully that tide begins to turn, and maybe, just maybe, something as good (if not better) than this is built somewhere I'll actually get a chance to ride it!
  24. ^Additionally, before the purchase of the Paramount Parks, they WERE given regular additions, and there was no thought that parks like WoF, DP, or VF wouldn't see a new coaster every 3-4 years. Obviously, with the bigger Paramount Parks in their fold, CF has refocused their energies on these larger, already more successful parks. It almost reminds me of those stories where the adopted children, end up being the favorites of the parents over the original children! (With the exception of CP, of course!)
  25. Painful but true. It is kind of shameful how CF treats these parks. I don't know if I'd use the word "shameful", but it is rather disappointing...
