  1. Hey, I really hope this isn't a repost topic- I searched and searched and didn't see anything similar. I just saw the topic about the home-made dark ride, and it got me thinking about my favorite scene from a movie involving a ride: (WARNING: NSFW, but I don't think it's really any worse than any HHN stuff these days) I just love the surreal atmosphere in this scene (and the rest of the movie) and especially the little black light diorama- the whole thing reminds me of the old Museum of Wax in Newport, OR when I was a kid. Honorable mention goes to the Trabant from Sandlot, sorry about the quality on this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAxuXNxsNMk So what are your favorite rides featured in movies?
  2. NIce, I'm sure you'll have fun. You always make sure to fill us in on the important stuff, and since I still haven't made it up there, I appreciate it
  3. I didn't realize that they were actually changing the track, I thought it was just a queue upgrade and themeing or something. What do you guys think; will Universal be willing to try something unique, or will they play it safe and go with the standard same-6-elements-in-different-order B&M?
  4. Wow looks like fun from the outside, I wonder how it rides? Intamin has lots of "unknown" projects on RCDB right now with opening dates still this year... strange.
  5. Almost exactly what I was about to post. That is ridiculous. I don't even know what else to say, it's just ridiculous.
  6. Lap bars!? Yes please! That sounds awesome, I need to get myself on a KMG of some sort soon... Hopefully I will make it to Fright Nights As an actual contribution, I think my favorite high-intensity flat recently was the Fabbri Evolution at The Fair... they ran it really slow and it's ugly but an extra bonus was that the first time I rode it, a maintenance worker was up on the platform greasing the main bearing while we were riding it [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] There was a man on that catwalk while we were riding it (not my photo)
  7. Awesome photos, my only complaint is that you didn't take more! I hope to one day go to one of these crazy European fairs, the rides are so much more impressive with all the themeing and lights. Thanks for sharing
  8. Don't mean to bump, but I just found this and have to say; coolest "ferris wheel" ever! There was apparently one at SFGA, anyone remember it or get to ride it?
  9. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but I hate it when parks paint their rides this specific color combination- it looks like a piece of promotional material from McDonalds. I305 looks the same way to me from some angles, but I'm sure if I ever ride it I won't care what color it is. It is good to see that they appear to be maintaining a beautiful machine like this- although painting it doesn't necessarily mean they have done anything else to it, it's a good sign at least. edit; the colors on those trains do make them look super cool though
  10. Also, from Wikipedia regarding chair-o-plane rides (turns out to be a huge source of funny misinformation just like the GP): Also "Morph and Chas table gunslinger", a "Morph files episode themed chair-o-plane", with a cowboy hatted morph, a cowboy hatted Chas and a cowboy hatted grand morph on the pipe with a giant cowboy hat to make the pipe spin and smaller cowboy hats with a seat in them with a seatbelt In it to make it where the people sit.
  11. That is a seriously intense wave pool, they should probably have a height limit on that thing. I would not want to be in there as it turns even more into a sea of flesh. It reminds me of this post on a reddit topic: Probably an exaggeration but still funny
  12. It's pretty OK until about 1:00 after the 'loop,' when it just starts to get ugly. "This is not right" is one thing I remember saying aloud as it clamored over that inexplicably banked section along the front. It was worth it. Rode 3x, hurts but still fun! edit; Here are some videos!
  13. I wonder what people's obsession/trepidation with whether a coaster "goes upside down" is about anyway. I guess I could understand it back when inversions were a new thing, but even though they are normal or even passé for many 'enthusiasts,' it's funny that people still freak out about it like they are in danger of falling out, or at least they assume inversions mean it's the most intense coaster EVER
  14. ^ Yeah I saw that yesterday, I was gonna post it but I guess you got here before me. Looks like I'll try to go on a week day and bring someone with so I can ride everything (selfish much? )
  15. Aftershock Look at the ladders!
  16. I dunno, I'm going more for the rides--though I might really like the haunts, I have never been to a quality one--so it's a bummer that for 2x the price you only get an express line once each. If I get the express, I will have to play the "wait until the line is longest" game to get the most of it, which sort of puts me off. I think I might just get the regular pass online in advance, and hope the lines aren't bad. Does anyone know if there is any opportunity to upgrade once there? I highly doubt it... Also, does the Enterprise allow single riders? I have never ridden one and got DENIED at the fair due to I was sad and alone Any other rides with 'no single rider' policies?
  17. Ok, I actually went to get my Enhanced Driver's License today so that I can go across the border, so if I get the hard copy in the mail before this ends you might see me there. edit: meaning Fright Nights. Should I get a rapid pass if I go on a week day?
  18. Until recently I couldn't say I had a 'worst' first drop, but now I'd say Rainier Rush @ the Washington State Fair. Much headbanging, but at least the restraints were pretty soft. Not sure if it's really a full-size coaster though, you be the judge!
  19. Yessir: http://rcdb.com/6478.htm Apparently it's the only one in the western hesmisphere, what a rare treat!
  20. Dang, they apparently had some rare rides, I don't think there are very many Jumpings out here in the U.S. either. I hear the inverter is more of a "good riddance" ride anyway, but I have never ridden one, I would have tried it if it was still there. Glad I wasn't just such a noob I was scared of nothing in the back seat; it has some intense ejector huh? Especially with no belts. Some good floater too, though, on some of the drops. The second half is very fun.
  21. I only know of 1: Windstorm at Fun Forest in Seattle, an S.D.C Hurricane model. It's now been converted into a portable and travelling with Texas showman Steve VanderVorste to the State Fair of Texas and other fairs, so I guess it's not really defunct. They repainted it a horrible purple and lime green color scheme, instead of its perfectly good blue with white supports. That little twisty drop shown in this pic was actually pretty neat:
  22. Yes, the station brakes locked up on the old Arrow at my home park, and the train wouldn't roll all the way into the station. The restraints therefore would not open, so we had to wait for an engineer to manually release us. It only took about 5 minutes. The only other time was a lift hill motor cutout at the fair, and that was restarted in about 10 seconds. So, I have been lucky so far but I'm sure I will get stuck someday, I'm still a total newbie.
  23. Hey Pacific NW'erners, Scarywood is right around the corner and info has finally been posted on Silverwood's website. I figured I'd pass the info on here in case it will convince anyone to make the trip over. I'm about a month away from my trip and getting excited! Scarywood Haunted Nights 2015 Silverwood Theme Park Weekends, October 2nd-30th Thursdays $25.99, Fridays $32.99, Saturdays $39.99 SAVE $5 when you buy tickets online 3+ days in advance 5 haunted attractions, 7 scare zones, and rides in the dark--including my current favorite coaster, Timber Terror, running its train BACKWARD!! New for 2015: "Caved In," a new walk-through haunted attraction which has replaced the Ancient Ruins (I'm sad I never got to see that one but it looked sort of sub-par judging by pictures I have seen). The Clown Town scare zone has also been expanded according to the website. Here's a good trip report from last year's event, with some nice pics despite the darkness (not my report): Scarywood 2014 Trip Report Be aware: - The event, especially Zombiewood Express, is not family-friendly. Much profanity and suggestive subject matter aboard the train! - Dress warmly; although predictions are for above-normal temperatures in October it will most likely be chilly, especially on the rides - For the safety of guests and team members, no guest costumes are allowed See website for all the details, I'm not with Silverwood and take no responsibility for any info I might have messed up! ----- I'm headed over on the weekend of the 23rd, and going with some family on Friday and probably Saturday night. We might have another TPR forum member meeting up with us already, so if anyone else can make it on that weekend, we can have a mini TPR meetup!
  24. Ah I see, I have never heard of this before, thanks for correcting me. So instead of simulating a coaster ride, it's a coaster ride simulating another experience. After checking this out, I'd say do it if you want. As long as they give you the option to ride without a stupid Oculus Rift on your face, I don't see any problem with it. Personally I still say nay, but I would try it and might change my mind. I can imagine there could be some cool things able to be experienced with this.
  25. Gotta give mention to my "home" park, Wild Waves in Federal Way, WA. I've never been to SFMM, but from the descriptions of the clientele, I'd say Wild Waves has a similar issue. The south end of the Seattle area is not known for being high-class (Tukwila, about 15 miles north, recently got the honor of being ranked "2nd most dangerous city in the U.S." ) and most of the normal, respectable people will go outside and go camping, biking, etc. rather than our only water park. So that leaves every family who is too lazy/busy/poor to plan a trip to the mountains to just buy a season pass and pack themselves and kids into Wild Waves every summer. Their season passes are ridiculously cheap (less than 2 admissions) and they give them out as prizes at all the schools in the area, so every nice day during summer the place is jam-packed with people who think they own the place because they have a season pass. Now this wouldn't be a problem except they have a total of ~15 rides and even fewer water slides. Their newest addition is the "Mountain Dew triple slide complex" with 3 tube slides, apparently something not doable for them without a sponsor. This means that wait times for everything slowly inch up throughout the day until you find yourself faced with a 1 hour wait for an old Arrow Loop & Screw. I haven't been there during the summer in years, but the last time I went, me and my ex had such a terrible time we vowed never to return. They have a Halloween event I have been tempted to try, but after seeing they have a grand total of 2 haunted houses and no scare zones, I decided no. I might go this year just to see how depressing it is. Food is also horrible and expensive. Also their best coaster is a boring family woodie with barely any airtime, and best flat is a Disk'O. Not worth it at all, especially since summer admission is $40. You can go in the spring and get in for $10 for only rides, that was the only time I have enjoyed this park.
