  1. I will put a vote in for one of my home park's coasters, though I count wild mouse coasters as almost a different category than full-size coasters... Klondike Gold Rusher is just a painful, boring mess. Nothing about it is fun, except maybe the first drop and the final little camelback. It's a Zamperla "Zig Zag Coaster" http://rcdb.com/1658.htm [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
  2. Listen to the wisdom of Megatron! I know this is old, but I just now saw this-- simply amazing. I love how the "bad" characters are allowed to openly berate guests at some parks, I really wish I could do this while I was at work...
  3. I saw that a few months ago; it's a weird video thanks to the filmmakers, but the coaster looks fun!
  4. Longest and coldest wait I have been in was for Zombiewood Express @ Scarywood- 2 hours in freezing temps and we weren't really dressed warmly enough
  5. Our local woodie Timberhawk is lame during the day, but I had fun on it at night last month
  6. Random question- in what situation would a photoreceptor be the sensor of choice? It seems like EM sensors would be much more reliable and less prone to weather issues
  7. So after bailing the week before due to traffic, this past Friday I decided to head down to Wild Waves for their Holiday with Lights event. Travelling down from Bellevue to Federal Way wasn't the worst traffic I have seen, and it was easier since I was heading somewhere FUN and not home to make dinner and go to bed, like I normally look forward to I drove by the Screamin' Swing at Family Fun Center in Tukwila, the only thing like it in this area, and I considered stopping for a ride but I didn't want to be late. When I arrived I was the 2nd person in the lot, and close to opening this is what it looked like behind me- this is one advantage to going somewhere decidedly small-town in scale The Thunderbird and the 3 other cars there at 4:45 I waited with about 20 other people for "gate drop," and I headed back toward Timberhawk. I had decided that would be my first destination, so a walk up the hill later I got to see this little coaster decked out in Seahawks themed lights TimberHAWK The station was empty, so I greeted the operators (same ones from my last trip, which was in May? so they must be dedicated) and took my seat in the front. No one else showed up so I got to ride my first coaster alone! It was a fun experience, but everyone knew who was doing all the screaming and laughing The next ride was even more fun; the back seat on that little coaster is really a fun ride in the dark. The first drop is sort of intense for being so little, and there's a second drop coming back the other way that's also pretty sweet. No sustained floater or violent ejector air for you crazies, just a good old fashioned fun little woodie- I liked it about 3x more in the dark. View toward the exit I rode Timberhawk 3 or 4 times, mostly in the back, then started to get a headache from the cold and gave in. After that I decided to go on their Disk'o- imaginatively called Disk'O Flashback. Nearby Disk'o Eats and Cool Treats completes the amazing theme this area captures! All kidding aside, it was actually fun to watch and a fun ride. I got a weird cycle/seat where I got jerked around in some weird ways, but it's always fun (until someone's kid pukes, and I've seen that already this year) Disk'O Flashback- it's a coaster on their website, can I claim a credit? Looks cool at night Next I headed over to my old nemesis- The Wild Thing Menacing I have despised this coaster since a few years ago when I stood in line for at least 30 minutes with an ex girlfriend. It was horrible and the coaster itself is pretty horrible, and the day was already terrible so I associate it with bad times. It's also just an old Arrow loop & corkscrew, with some badly-redone transitions that make the ride unbearable in some seats. The lights made it look weird and somehow cooler, so I distracted myself with these thoughts as I got in line. It was a walk-on, and I learned from my Scarywood trip that the front might be the most smooth, so I jumped in front--and it wasn't bad! I could actually keep my head off the restraints and the worst rough spots weren't as bad. By the time we got back from the second lap, though--they send you around twice, another 'unique' thing about this park!--I was ready to be done. Then I walked around a bit to see some lights. There was a kiddie area, with Santa, elves, Frosty and a snow machine! I saw a familiar face here... Do you want to build a snowman? And from up on the hill, I saw the lights in all their glory! My pics are half to blame, they actually did a good job with the lights! This was the only picture I could get of Timberhawk- it's actually a nice coaster to photograph, but it was totally dark in this area since there are houses right across the road behind. I bet they love having this thing run until 10 each night this time of year! Ho Ho Ho, Merry Coasting! The carousel was nicely lit, but I really think it could use a refurbishment- especially for being old and "classic", it looks really plain. Somewhere along the line I went on their Wild Mouse, Klondike Gold Rusher, which was again more fun in the dark. Their "Kamikaze"-style ride Timber Axe was broken, which was a bummer, since it's kind of fun. I also went on my "guilty pleasure" ride, the Zamperla Kanga-Bounce- I love this thing, and if it didn't make me look like a creeper to repeatedly ride a kids ride alone I would have gone on it more than once. Also have to give a shout out to our little kiddie coaster, that thing is funny loud. I then went back to ride Timberhawk some more, then back to Wild Thing, then back up to Timberhawk for some more... At some point I rode a pirate ship, and I think that was about all I rode. I left about 1/2 hour early because I had to work early the next morning, but there was a sweet penguin display on the way out that I totally missed coming in: Penguins are always cute Merry Christmas!
  8. Zamperla Kanga Bounce I am not ashamed edit: I can see why that's the last of its kind... it looks like a Kanga Bounce that hurts like hell!
  9. Second best ride on a coaster I have had was in the rain just as a thunderstorm was coming in... part of what made it great was that I was on the last train before they stopped all operations for the night due to lightning
  10. Most fun I have had on a coaster so far is Timber Terror backward this year @ Scarywood. Best thing at the event by far, though Tremors in the dark was a close second. So far in my limited coaster experience, each coaster I rode last is the "most fun"!! That's what I love about coasters, even the bad ones I have been on were still a lot of fun despite their downsides
  11. edit: Oops I didn't look at your link, wrong typhoon... But you did remind me, that ride is probably the closest I have come to puking as well. We had one at the "Fun Forest" at Seattle Center, and I went on it with a friend when we were on a school field trip. I got off and felt very bad for the rest of the day, it was like I got the fly immediately from riding this thing.
  12. It's painfully obvious that you're trying to just get attention with all the threads you're bumping and creating. Well done. Yeah apparently if contributing to the site is attention seeking behavior, I am guilty. I have not been on it, being a newbie to this whole thing, but I would have to disagree that KK was a huge mistake-- they would have just eaten the loss and taken it out if that were true. They must see something in it since it's still there. I can attest to this (again I have not ridden it) because I distinctly remember seeing programs on science channel where they went on this ride and watched pennies "float" as they crested and fell back down. It was a big deal, that ride was amazing! Thank you
  13. Got to re-ride a couple of local coasters last night: Timberhawk - Back, for sure The Wild Thing - Back Klondike Gold Rusher - It's 1 car!
  14. That GCI is crazy long! It looks a little uninspired but videos can be really deceiving. I just think the pacing needs something that stands out as a climax, but it's too late now.
  15. I don't think I have ever puked due to a ride, but during this summer I was at a park and suddenly the line stopped moving for one of their woodies. After about 10 minutes with 0 movement, I excused myself up past people in line to the station to see what was going on. I think I just asked, "What's going on?" and I don't remember what the ride op said exactly, but it was made clear that they were in the middle of cleaning someone's lunch out of one of the cars. I made sure to sincerely thank them when I eventually made it up to the station.
  16. Aww you're no fun, just trying to get people to post more as suggested in your newsletter- I think my topic had a much catchier title! Thanks for finding and merging though, if that's what you wish, I didn't see anything on the topic when I searched but I guess I didn't look hard enough
  17. My perfect example of this is when I rode the renovated "Classic Coaster" at the state fair this year. Waiting in line I was expecting some OK air and a nice classic woodie feel, but once I got up to the gates and stepped in I was surprised to find NO SEATBELTS and a lapbar that locked in about 8" above my lap! Due to the lack of safety features, I was feeling like there couldn't be anything even remotely "ejector" about the air on this coaster, but as soon as we hit the turnaround and down the next drop I had my second surprise. RIGHT after the turnaround the back car got pulled down that drop so fast I really thought I would not follow it for a minute. I never was able to keep my hands off that bar when I was in the back car. I felt like it was borderline unsafe for someone who was caught unawares, but I didn't say anything- I hope they can keep it this way forever! Those old Prior and Church trains are awesome, and when they finally put a second train on it was even faster than the first one. (watch the people in back flail around as they get thrown down this drop) (you can see it in this one too!) It looks like a mild little drop but I had the fleeting image of death the first time I rode it
  18. Hey so I never really looked it up, and hardly knew it existed, but just read that Ring Racer (no more ring-a-lingy?) never really opened and cost something to the tune of $13,000,000.00 in the end... I'm guessing this probably isn't the most expensive ride that's turned into a flop, considering how expensive some of these "latest and greatest" rides/coasters can cost. Plus they take the hit on attendance that they were counting on the ride to bring in, I guess. And I'm sure they get plenty guests angry over the delay/closure. Oh what fun! What ride stands out to you as the most ridiculous & frivolous debacle for its owners and the biggest disappointment for guests? Bonus points for long delays or multiple major closures, especially within the ride's first season
  19. That actually sounds awesome to me! I don't know if I missed the point, but I'm guessing you mean it's stupid because it doesn't exist? It should exist!
  20. Sorry didn't read the instructions, continue
  21. Now that's what I'm talking about! That's hilarious and yet I feel for those poor people because losing a wallet really ruins your day. I bet some of these parks have a ridiculous lost and found department, the more I realize how common it is for things to go flying. I have only seen something go flying once in person, but I probably don't pay as much attention when in line sometimes Just to contribute my own video, here's the item I saw flying off this little coaster at the fair - 0:40:
  22. As I am sitting here watching people's cell phones fly away on SFMM Goliath's third hill, I suddenly want to know, which coaster in your home/favorite park claims the most lost items from silly guests? And specifically which element in that coaster? Are coasters with inversions more likely to claim your stuff, or do non-inverting rides catch people with their guard down? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbS3M0KsN28 I should mention this, although most here don't need reminding: DON'T BRING LOOSE ITEMS ON COASTERS! Something as small as a cell phone could cause serious injury when it's flying through a theme park full of kids and people at 60 mph
  23. It doesn't make much sense, but I would not be surprised. I was not allowed to ride the Enterprise at our local fair because I was a single rider, and that makes no sense either. Any extra rules that they put in place just might keep them from getting sued in a certain situation, so why not? Even if this had nothing to do with single riders... it would not surprise me.
  24. Is there any word of when New Revolution is expected to open? Just wondering for the trip I'm planning in late April! I would love to ride it, it would be my first Schwarzkopf (I was foiled by "no single riders" on other I had a chance to ride)
