Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
ALT2870 replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Six Flags completely owns the park, only one as far as I know. I think that speaks volumes what they think about the park. -
Fair enough. Also, The Spongebob Musical has it's release date on Nickelodeon, Saturday December 7th. Can't wait even though I've seen it live. Also planning on seeing the touring production when it comes to Denver in March.

Yes knotts only runs steam on weekends during the off season. Fun fact, the Galloping Goose at Knott's (#3) is the only one that has permanently left Colorado. All the others are still here in the state and the only one not original is #1. You have to appreciate Knott's is operating the goose for the reason it was built, to run service when a full size train isn't required. Case and point, slow weekdays during the off season. I can say this Colorado would really like to have all the knotts stuff back lol. you can watch this and see a lot of behind the scenes stuff with the railroad. Honestly, as someone that lives in Colorado, they are doing a fine job. They've kept everything in it's paint scheme when it was in Colorado. Both Durango & Silverton, and Cumbres & Toltec have gotten rid the of former monikers and replaced it with their own stuff. Oh, and they actually run their Goose for the public at Knott's. As long as they keep it up, I'm fine with it. We have plenty of historic stuff here in the state still. Highly recommend this video:

I mean Mamma Mia! has been playing on the West End for over 20 years now, so... In all seriousness jukebox musicals have an extremely tough time professionally so lets see how much luck this one has. Then again looking at the future musicals coming to Broadway, it might not be too hard.

For anyone that missed out on The Spongebob Musical, they will be presenting the show with most of the OBC this December on Nickelodeon. It is being filmed live sometime supposedly next month. I'm super excited as this was a fantastic musical that got cut short too early. It is also on tour right now though I've heard mixed reviews regarding the cast. (I'll be giving them a chance in March when in come to Denver.) This is also somewhat of a historic moment as it will be as far as I know only the second musical to be aired on a major broadcast network other then PBS who mainly shows less known musicals and plays. Hopefully this is a breakthrough moment and we'll see future things like this. http://www.playbill.com/article/tv-adaptation-of-spongebob-squarepants-musical-will-air-on-nickelodeon

If you only have four hours, then yes, get the Flash Pass. Otherwise from my Fright Fest experience in the evening, you'll be pushing your luck. The lines for coasters still could take 30-45 minutes at least to go through, plus walking you'd be lucky to get four rides in. I'm like you, don't prefer Fright Fest and just there for the rides.

S&S is building something seriously weird
ALT2870 replied to KBrylczyk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Possible an update of their Free-Fly design? I think there is only one installation and it's over in Europe. Looks like a fun family coaster design. -
Certainly a shame something like this happens so close after opening. Based on the information given, aka this is the departure side of the terminal, all we know is the blue cabin wasn't moving. Whether it didn't attach to the haul rope (lift auto stops in that case), power failure, or slippage, quite a few possibilities in regards to why the cabin was stopped. Lot of theories out there right now in regards to the actual collision. Someone from liftblog.com has a good theory though: The broken glass could be just a bad angle and not from speed, but who knows. But very likely human error as lifts have many systems just to make sure something like this doesn't happen. But you never know, multi failures can happen. It is standard procedure for the lift manufacture to be on site a week or two after opening to continue to monitor the lift to make sure everything is functioning properly. Someone has a picture out there with Doppelmayr trucks in the parking lot backing this up. Doppelmayr North American headquarters are over in Salt Lake and they certainly don't have trucks just sitting in a state they just built their first installs in. With the tight cabin spacing, there is little room for error. I'm sure Disney will spread out spacing by removing cabins for a while. Doppelmayr has no name anywhere, I'm doubting many people know who made it, most will think Disney made the system. The D-Line is proven technology (this coming from a Leitner-Poma fan) that has many installs in Europe and is slowly starting to be introduced here in the states. The only thing that is different at Disney is the accessible cabins being broken off every so often, but as mentioned, this accident happened when the cabin was supposed to be accelerating out, not where cabins merge back in.

Texas Tour Twenty-Twenty
ALT2870 replied to anonymouscactus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I know you live down there and are use to driving a lot, that's a lot of driving and back tracking for most people. Sea World is on the complete opposite side of town. I think flipping that around to do Austin on the way out to Dallas would be better driving wise. Truly depends on where he starts. Schlitterbahn in my opinion is a full day if both sides are open, and I would recommend going only when both are. The old side is a lot of fun. I believe that is the one that is closed early in the season. Pro tip, if you get there within an hour of opening or so, park at the new side, much closer to the gates. My Take: Day1: Over Texas, 20ish minute drive from the airport if you arrive early Drive down that night late and avoid the worst of traffic or leave the next morning and deal with some traffic, mostly in DFW area Day 2: Austin Stay night in Austin or head down to Schlitterbahn area, again traffic in the morning if you stay too far into town Day 3: Schlitterbahn Drive to your base camp hotel for San Antonio and do something that night like others suggested or hit up Fiesta Texas for a few hours depending on their hours (Side note, we stayed at a hotel next to The Rim which put us next to Six Flags and a 20 minute drive to Sea World) Day 4: SeaWorld in the morning to afternoon, then Fiesta Texas that evening Day 5: Do any other stuff you want to do in San Antonio the next day (Take Bert's suggestions) and then back to Fiesta Texas if your close by later again Day 6: Hit up anything else you want like more San Antonio stuff or again Fiesta Texas if your close if you have a later flight I mentioned Fiesta Texas three time to give some options, visiting at night will at least avoid the worst of the heat and crowds. Plus visiting twice should let you hit what you want. -

So St. Louis has kicked things off for 2020, go figure. Obviously two others are all but confirmed but this is official. Very interesting ride, based upon the responses on Facebook people seem to like it. Though one thinks it's Xcalibur. I'll wait for the offical post here before posting some thoughts. -
Labor Day weekend at any park is going to be a nightmare. Sunday is typically the worst and Saturday isn't too far off. Monday tends to be pretty quite. (This coming from working at a park.) That being said if you get a Flash Pass, you will have a much better experience. How much? That you would have to find out. In my past experience I got a Platinum level at Great America on a Saturday with a BAFF on top and I was able to have an enjoyable day. Hopefully a local can get you more details, but either way expect the worst crowds of the season.

I would be willing to bet money the River will be just like the one at Schlitterbahn. If you look at the park map you can see where the wave generating machine will be, just like it is at Schlitterbahn. We loved the Torrid River, I think combined we spent nearly 2 maybe even 3 hours in the thing. Much better them most wave pools out there.

SeaWorld San Antonio Discussion Thread

Um they said wooden coaster, not hybrid or steel. I have some construction pics if anyone wants to see, trying to do a trip report but we know how that goes. (I still have one from the year Valravn opened. lol ) -
Park President Jeffery Siebert posted on a Facebook group that wonder woman is awaiting a part. He said that it should be back open early this week....not sure if it has reopened already?... Thanks guys, kinda poked around that group and didn't see any updates. Got in a little late so will shoot for later. According top the app still closed anyway.
