How To Ride?
Projektion replied to gerstlaueringvar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Furius Baco. Get as close to the front inside seats as you possibly can. For any other seat I all I can recommend is brace yourself and hold onto the top of the straps/ostr, instead of the handles of the lap bar section of the restraint. If you are in the last row outside seats, write a will. -
[NL2] Furius Baco Recreation
Projektion replied to Projektion's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
While I realise it may take a while, I need something to occupy myself with at the moment. My current work situation means I only work 4 hours a day during winter months. This gives me a lot of free time to do things, I thought this project might be a pretty good time sink. When summer comes I may not be able to dedicate as much time to this project, but I still plan on getting stuff done. -
[NL2] Furius Baco Recreation
Projektion replied to Projektion's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
After a bit of researching on the net for some things to help with some recreations, I think I ended up coming across the holy grail for this project, which could open up turning this furius baco recreation into a full size PortAventura recreation. I managed to find an accurate (and somewhat quite well detailed) height map/elevation model of PA that contains all the coaster/pathways/buildings/etc. With this I've managed to get a map overlay that is almost perfectly scaled (the coaster still comes out at 25m longer than the real life on, yet the scale of the overlay is perfect). As for progress with the coaster, I am currently in the middle of the 3ds. As I go along with the 3ds, I am also updating the terrain and supports. -
When I was younger, before moving to Spain, we used to spend 4 weeks every year from 1996 to 2002 (when we moved) on the south coast of Spain. We usually spent 1.5/2 weeks worth of time at PortAventura. PA became a massive part of my childhood and kind of started the flame. I then started playing RCT and it just snowballed from there. I'm not the type of enthusiast that goes around riding all the coasters I can, but if you asked me anything about coasters, you would have my full attention immediately.

Suprising Soakings

It's even worse when you're in the front seat. On the small drop (the big one as well, but not as much), the front of the boat acts as a scoop and completely covers the front row in water. -

^ And I imagine the queues will get quite large during the summer days. -
Actually that's not completely impossible. Even though the brain is pretty tight inside your skull there is still a bit of room for movement. I'm no doctor but I think that a insanely rough coaster could cause it to bounce a bit in our head. I think that might be the cause of the headaches some people usually get after riding particularly rough rides.

I'm really looking forward to getting there in April now. I'm going to be there pretty much the entire following week after the opening to hopefully avoid the crowds. As for crowds on opening day, I think it will be more similar to weekends (30 min - 1 hour queues), because people will probably also be making the journey for opening day. I haven't been there on opening day before, but if I had to guess, I'd say it would be a bit quieter early in the day then get busier towards the afternoon as schools start ending and familys head there for the afternoon/evening/weekend. -
For the single rider thing, I'm not sure whether they do this in other parks around the world, but in Spanish parks, when a ride doesn't have a single rider queue, the attendant that lets people through into the loading area from the queue area usually calls out for single riders, letting them jump the queue. It's annoying when you get an attendant that doesn't call out though. As for the most annoying thing for me, it's the either the intamin curse (So many times have a been on the train of one of their accelerators and it just breaks down) or un airconditioned queues/open air queues in the summer heat/sun.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
Projektion replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I meant multi loopers, like a coaster that's sole purpose is inversions and, for the most part, nothing else, like Kumba, Dragon Khan, Viper, GASM, Collossus, etc. -

Not so much a crazy idea any more, given what RMC are doing for wooden coaster market, but how long do you think it'll be before we get the first wooden mega-looper? -
Everyone seems to be putting these zero-g pretzel rolls things on flyers now, it's strange. Not that I think it's a bad thing, that element looks awesome, and seems like something B&M would actually build if they decided to make a bit more of an intense flyer. Personally, from the picture you shown, I don't like the compact nature of the layout, I much prefer when rollercoasters (B&Ms in particular) have a more expansive layout, but then again, that's personal preference. I look forward to seeing some more pics of this.

Sorry, I should have explained a little better. The problem is that it wouldn't generate a single number every time a train is launched, which is what I need, it would just constantly generate numbers until the state of the block changed. Aside from that, I got the generator implemented into the script for my ride. The chance of a roll back on this ride in the video is 1 in 2. If I eventually release this ride for download, I will change the chance to 1 in 10 or something to make it not as frequent.

I've already sorted out a random number generator, but thanks anyway. The problem in your one is that, given the placement of the generator in the script, it would constantly generate numbers non stop, I just wanted 1 number generated. The only problem I've found now is that the rollback is dependant on your FPS in game. On my PC, the game runs at around 90FPS, with this FPS the train comes to a stop at the top of the tower and then rolls back like what happens with more irl rollbacks. However if I limit my FPS to 30, the train will clear the tower.

They're mostly just there anyway to stop people from leaning to far forward before the launch so they don't get slammed into the back of the seat. -

Even so, I don't think the straps on Intamins are very well made for inversions/when you get pushed against them (as you do on Furius Baco), on all other intamin rides with similar restraints, the coaster are heartlined, so you're never really being pushed against the straps. On FB, you do get pushed against them because of the unheartlined nature of wing coasters, even if it's not your full weight. I guess the straps just gave up after so many years of strain. -

^ I'm guessing the straps snapped from the strain put on them when the riders shoulders rest on them during the slow roll. The straps seem more built for holding back the rider during the launch then holding them in during the awkward heartline-less roll -

^^ I think they were put there because of the restraint snapping incident they had last year. And honestly, after riding it with them installed, you don't hit your head as much as you would expect to, if at all. -
Favorite Inversion
Projektion replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I personally prefer the good old vertical loop just because it's the only type of inversion that gives that perfect hang time at the top where you get the strangest upside down feeling (seeing the whole world upside down while still having some positive G's which fools your body/brain into thinking you are still standing/sitting the right way up). -

The fact there was no mention of Formula Rossa also shows that the article was made in 2009. -

On a flying coaster, your body would be supporting your neck, in the same way positive G's affect your body at the bottom of a drop.
