Projektion replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
2 new images were posted (from what looks like a newspaper) on pa-community by markittush95. (Translation: "Among other rides, the park will be home to Europes fastest vertical accelerator which will be taller than 76 meters ... as well as various simulators of race cars") (Translation: "[...] the fastest roller coaster in the world [talking about Formula Rossa, I'm assuming]. In Portaventura, The centerpiece will be a ride (In the style of Furius Baco [i'm assuming this is referring to the fact it will also be an accelerator, not the wing seats]) that will be the tallest and fastest vertical accelerator in Europe. The new attraction will once again drastically change PortAventura's skyline given that it will be taller than Shambhala (which is 76 meters tall). There will also be various areas with simulators [...]") Taller than shambhala? -

And me in just 29. Judging by the map, the entrance to the Angkor area should offer some amazing shots of Shambhala. -

Also, in the concept art, the coaster stretches diagonally across the whole (what is now the) car park. If you measure that up, it's very much the length of Kk and TTD. -

The thing is, that sentence can be construed in 2 different ways. The way you mention, or as the tallest roller coaster which also happens to be a vertical accelerator. -

^The more I look, the stranger it becomes. I mean, it has the support structure of a tall accelerator, but then again, it also has a drop tower attached to it, and it doesn't have the additional bracing supports that Kingda Ka has for Zumanjaro (and I can't see them being added on if this coaster has that cloak thing on it), but that could just be because Intamin have improved on their supports since then. -

It just needs to be 206 ft tall to beat Stealth at Thorpe to achieve this, nothing more. So in the end it may not even be the tallest coaster in the park. We just have to wait and see what we end up with. I realise that, but given the support structure, I'm willing to bet it's going to be quite a fair bit taller. -
Nürburgring launched coaster
Projektion replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To put it into perspective, Ringracer takes up about 1.5 times the footprint that Kingda Ka takes up. Most of which is just sitting there moving at high speed, no acceleration/airtime hill/nothing. -

I want to say it's at least a giga, maybe just short of a strata, given the support structure. -

I mean, they can build and design what ever they want to connect it to the main park. I just don't see it happening though cause the hotel and Baco are in the way. They would have to make a path that cuts through the area between the hotel and Baco and enter the new area area the back. Which they can totally do, I dont don't think it will. The other option would be to go around the other side of the hotel with a path, which seems easier. But judging by the concept art, it seems the entrance is on the opposite side. The red area is the entrance to Hotel PortAventura from PortAventura Park, the yellow area is where the entrance to the Ferrari themed area looks to be (the hotel building with a hole in it can be seen to the left of the concept art showing the entrance). The only thing I think they could do is remove the tennis court (which appears to be abandoned for the most part since there is nothing directly connecting it from the hotel) and add a path way around the edge of the hotel. edit: updated image -

Because the southern carpark is PA's main carpark for the high season, I can't imagine it will be it's own separate area. I reckon they will try to incorporate some sort of transition into it from the Mediterranean part of the park. Judging by the art, it looks like the hotel is going to be about here Judging by the art, it looks like the hotel is going to be about here -

I love how with the accelerator it's kind of like a middle finger to ringracer for taking their fastest European coaster title. -

I imagine if they sell the coaster the long straight pieces will be drastically cut down. -

I go away for 1 day and you go crazy and announce something like this, wtf PA? Seriously though, I'm looking forward to it. Looking at the images, personally I think the accelerator will be in the ball park of 350 - 400 foot. When is this looking to be completed by? edit: nevermind, I read through the announcement a bit more thoroughly. -
The catch car is entirely controlled by the script, the speed/length/etc, is entirely based on what values are in the script. Meaning, just by changing a few numbers, you can make it as long/short/fast/slow as you want. Aside from altering the script a bit, you would also need to shorten the 3d model of the launch track to how you see fit.

Here's another one I recently finished. It's a scripted catch car that to recreate and Intamin accelerator more accurately I'm not quite sure why, but for some reason the catch car doesn't stop properly at the end of the launch track, It's scripted in a way that it's supposed to, but it doesn't and I can't figure out why. Since this is something that is used on all accelerators worldwide, and will likely be wanted by many people for their accelerators in NL2, I'm probably going to put up a tutorial/download once I've made the script a bit more user friendly.

Topper trackers/Iron Horse treatment of Stampida at PortAventura (or at least bring back the old trains. As much as I want some sort of massive coaster, like a B&M Dive or Intamin mega lite or something (mostly because it would be the only chance I could get at riding one of these rides), I don't want the PA skyline ending up any more cluttered than it already is.

What type of enthusiast are you?
Projektion replied to arby's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm more in the Coaster designer category, which explains why B&M are my favourite manufacturer, all their rides have that elegant-looking-beast appearance to them, even if the ride is somewhat sub-par. -
