  1. Best Intamin: Toss-up between Millennium Force and Maverick Best B&M: Banshee
  2. I'm considering applying for a summer job at Valleyfair next season. Is anyone allowed to live in the employee dorms, or are they only for international workers? The dorms would be my only choice because I live too far away from the park to be able to commute back-and-forth every day.
  3. Raptor is definitely my favorite ride of the three. Fast, forceful, great layout, smooth, and a lot of fun, just like most other B&M inverts. Rougarou is also a very good ride, but it has some headbanging in the second half (doesn't ruin the ride, but it's a little annoying). Gatekeeper, while not very forceful, is still enjoyable and provides some thrills.
  4. My off-season has already started . It's too bad this season had to end, although it was a pretty good year for me. I went to three new parks (Adventureland, Kings Island, Cedar Point) and gained 32 new credits. College will be keeping me busy during most the offseason. I'll also be focusing on my other hobbies more than coasters. There will be plenty of football, basketball, and hockey to watch during the next several months. Winter weather is just around the corner, and since I'm a weather buff, I'm looking forward to some good Minnesota snowstorms and blizzards. There are also plenty of new movies coming out soon that I'm looking forward to seeing (especially Star Wars Episode VII). I'll still visit TPR daily to stay up to date with industry happenings, and I'll probably make a trip or two to Nickelodeon Universe in January/February, but life won't be too coaster-heavy until spring arrives.
  5. I'm looking forward to Monster the most since it's the only "New for 2016" coaster I'll definitely get to ride, but as for which coaster I think looks the best, probably either Wildfire or Lightning Rod.
  6. Leaving the station on High Roller at Valleyfair: "I like this ride because it has no hills." Really? High Roller's layout is full of airtime hills.
  7. ^ I wouldn't give up hope just yet, haven't they announced some additions in November/December?
  8. Had a good last visit of the season to Valleyfair today. Low crowds, short lines, plenty of laps, and nice weather made for a fun day. Thought I'd share some photos here. The location of the new flyers for next year. Amphitheater stage is gone but the bleachers remain. All-Wheels Extreme. *yawn* Mad Mouse was running much more efficiently with the new PLC. Renegade's entrance with a few Halloween decorations. Corkscrew. Xtreme Swing. Empty stations are always nice. Steel Venom was down. Fall colors in the park. Arriving at the park. Last ride of the season for me was Wild Thing. Thanks for another fun season, Valleyfair.
  9. Granted, you live five minutes away from a park whose only coaster is a kiddie coaster. I wish college textbooks weren't so expensive.
  10. I'm going to change my Intamin selection to American Eagle. It's pretty easy to forget that American Eagle is an Intamin because it isn't your stereotypical Intamin. It's a rough and uninteresting ride.
  11. I checked the list of all the Xtreme Waterparks episodes that aired recently on the Travel Channel website, and none of the episode descriptions mention or hinted at Valleyfair's waterslides. Maybe it's not showing until next summer (or whenever the next season of the show starts)?
  12. B&M - Superman: Ultimate Flight (SFGAm) Intamin - Wicked Twister GCI - Gwazi (defunct) Superman and Wicked Twister aren't bad rides, they just aren't that great compared to other rides from their respective manufacturers.
  13. I'm going to be at the park this weekend. Are they still opening some rides 30 minutes early for Gold/Platinum passholders or not?
  14. I wouldn't mind seeing a new coaster with a cheap price tag as long as it's a fun ride. I'd personally like to see VF get a Chance Hyper GT-X like Lightning Run at Kentucky Kingdom ($7 million) since I've heard that ride has some extreme airtime. However, I am a little worried that if they bought a cheap coaster, it might be a low-quality ride like a Boomerang or an SLC.
  15. I saw The Martian earlier today, thought it was an excellent film. Great acting, nice visual effects, good soundtrack, and an interesting plotline that wasn't completely predictable. I've always been a fan of space movies, and this one did not disappoint.
  16. As of September 2015, my favorite Vekoma is Firehawk at Kings Island. I expected the worst with this coaster given all of the horror stories I'd heard about roughness, but to my surprise, it was actually quite smooth except for one or two spots. I enjoyed the flying sensation, and it had some decent forces, especially in the vertical loop (favorite part of the ride).
  17. Kind of a lame announcement in my opinion, but I guess it's better than nothing.
  18. That's odd. I found both Raptor and Kraken to have some of B&M's weaker first drops (even though both of the layouts that follow are great). A few more I will add to my list are The Beast and Wild Thing. The Beast could have a great first drop if it weren't for those trim brakes. Wild Thing's first drop isn't bad, but for a hypercoaster, it's a little underwhelming.
  19. Mean Streak at Cedar Point. I have never seen such a big first drop do so much of nothing.
  20. The park website says the $99/$139 FL/FLP is only for Saturdays, but I agree, even if the park is insanely crowded, those prices are a bit excessive.
  21. Longest I've ever waited for a coaster was 75 minutes for Superman: Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Great America. It should have been only 60 minutes, but it was down for about 15 minutes because of a problem with the restraints. Slowest-moving line I've waited in was for Goliath at the same park. The line was literally at a standstill for seven minutes sometimes, which is just ridiculous. The posted wait time was 2.5 hours, however I was able to get on the ride much faster thanks to the single-rider line.
  22. Is there a reason why they couldn't wait until the offseason to make the conversion? It seems odd that they would close Mad Mouse during the season since it's one of the most popular rides in the park among families.
