Dollywood Discussion Thread

As long as it can stay open consistently, I won't complain. Consistent operations will increase the likelihood that I'll make my virgin visit next year. Though Dollywood is only one of the options... -

CGA quietly removed theirs over the offseason. Canada's Wonderland has a Mondial version. -

They are using it for parts. Wdym by parts? In a similar fashion that humans can donate organs after death, the ride gets torn apart until maintenance finds the part(s) they need to make the ride less of a The remainder is waiting to either donate parts or get shipped to a scrapheap. -

The park still has both the rapids ride and another raft slide listed on the website. Has that just not been updated yet? But great photos, and your report makes me all the more interested in visiting this park. -

Nobody cares about stupid crap like wood to steel coaster ratios. That's something enthusiasts just made up. I assure you that the park doesn't care, nor should they. I promise you that nobody is in a board meeting saying "We could invest in this coaster and make it a highly marketable ride at a great value while dramatically reducing maintenance costs but technically it wouldn't be a wood coaster then because it should be classified as a steel coaster. We should just let it continue to suck and draw zero gate while costing way more money to maintain because then we would technically have 3 wood coasters". Think about how ridiculous that sounds... While I agree with everything you said, Bill; I prefer this version: -
Let's get out of here before Bette thanks anyone else.

Significant dirt movement has started in the employee lot. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the park worked throughout this year and next on land prep before removing Excalibur in 2018 -

Take this how you will, but the majority of rides without an autospiel got one this year. The only three rides without one are: Riptide, MRVR, and Supercat. -

^I'm thinking the security shack references the one built at the employee entrance, unless there was one built near the front of the park. -
Oh glorious, beautiful, divine, wonderful, (and all the other words my thesaurus recommends) Title Fairy: May I have the honor of being granted a title that reads: "They're taking the Donkeys to Isengard!"

Because, (and I hate getting into this debate) when a wooden coaster is retracked, a few layers of wood are stripped away and fresh lumber is placed where it was. Some sections may be reprofiled and new trains may be added. When Hulk was "retracked," B&M had to reforge the entire track and trains while the old materials are gathering rust in a landfill. Personally, I'll count New Hulk as a separate credit, RMC I-Boxes as new credits, but retracking/reprofiling/retraining is the same credit. But can we please get back to the Fury worship now? -

After my first full shift today, I can honestly say that I've control-operated a credit! Granted it was Mad Mouse and I nearly broke it, but I can run a credit! Still waiting on Engineer training, though Talked to a couple Excalibur ops today, it has been constantly going down for several hours at a time due to mechanical issues. And maybe other associates can corroborate this, but I think I saw a pink flag on the side of the employee access road between Wild Thing and Excalibur. With everything I keep hearing about the plans, my 2018 speculation goes more and more haywire. But the future is extremely bright for this park nonetheless. -
I don't recall that Rob said which year of IAAPA it was. I also believe what he said was that a company came to them with a proposal that was so good they "pulled out the checkbooks" (which is probably a slightly euphemistic phrase in and of itself). Rob didn't give any indication as to which park it's for, what year it was purchased in, what company the attraction is made by, or what park it's going to. However, it was strongly implied that it's not something that's just an off-the-shelf model the company was showing on the floor. This was a custom idea. With that in mind, it's pretty much impossible to speculate on any details -- yeah, I know, you're all going to try anyway. What are the odds he was just talking about a lunch consisting of Beaver Tails? From what I've heard, they're the Cinnamon Bread of IAAPA. And it would also send us into the frenzy we're currently in.

Or how about the empty pad they made for Skyrider three years back. Honestly because of it's location I always just assumed that would end up being a water park expansion. And wasn't that the original plan? To replace Skyrider with an eventual waterpark expansion? And I'd love to see what RMC could do with Minebuster--especially with how it interacts with the waterpark. -
