What was your favorite ride of 2013?
BotanicalStig replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Only made it to two different parks this season, 2014 will be a much bigger year for me. #1 I305 #2 Flight of Fear #3 Afterburn -
I don't "get" standups
BotanicalStig replied to etr102's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The only way to avoid it is to "sit" and get that weight off your feet. I wouldn't call myself fat (6ft even ~200lbs) but the combination of extra weight, and the blood sinking to my feet/legs is terrible. Some people are more sensitive to it, I grey out on most rides if I don't tighten my legs/abs to restrict bloodflow... So I guess that makes sense. I could put up with the uncomfortable feeling in my feet if the layout was really special. Riddler was probably my favorite, but if I went back to SFMM I would not ride it again. -
I don't "get" standups

Yup. When I was a little kid, I couldn't wait to be tall enough to ride Iron Wolf. "Ermagerd you ride that standing up?!?!" I shouted (probably). Only got a handful of rides on it, it was fun when I was a kid but as I got older I couldn't do it anymore. I got my Riddler, Mantis, Shockwave, and Vortex (Carowinds) credits just for the sake of getting the credit. I hate standups. I can't take the pain in my feet. The GP still love them though. Especially to people who haven't ridden them yet, they're just "SOOO cool". -
My donkey with the santa hat is a christmas decoration I found on ebay. You stick it on a tree, because, why wouldn't you stick a donkey in a santa hat to the side of your favorite tree? It made me laugh. I knew it'd be a good TPR avatar for the season.

NoLimits Coaster News!
BotanicalStig replied to Loefet's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Looks awesome. I'll be purchasing the pro version it looks like. I can't see why you would offer a discount for 1 owners. While $50-$100 is a good bit of money, the game is definitely worth it. I got 1.6 when it came out but I'm not really expecting a discount for buying something so long ago... Of course it would be appreciated, however Can't wait for this come out. -
What do YOU take with you to a park?
BotanicalStig replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
On a typical one day trip to a nearby park, I'll just take my phone and wallet, keeping some advil in my wallet or car. If I'm on a vacation and will be staying in the park 10+ hours, I'll take a drawstring bag with some refillable water bottles (the only park I've been to that didn't like this was Carowinds) advil, bandages/blister blockers, sunscreen, poncho or sweatshirt if necessary, and that's about it. I try not to lug around a bunch of stuff unless it would really pay off to do so. -
When the other option is OTSR's I don't understand the complaints. If the GP doesn't feel safe they wont show up to the parks. With the recent incident, SF is just trying to make the rides "safer". Even though we know a seatbelt isn't necessary, the GP doesn't. They're the ones who fill the parks up every day, not us. Cedar Fair typically has seat belts on their coasters... and yet... nobody seems to care.

^Fingers are crossed. I haven't gotten plane tickets yet but my family is looking to meet up in Vegas in December. Would hate to miss this great coaster by only a few days! -
A 500ft coaster with a traditional lift would be excellent, but frankly, what park has that sort of room? The layout would have to be GIGANTIC at those speeds. Asking for a coaster with a 500ft tophat... snooze. The last thing the world needs is another TTD. I get what you guys are saying, but the reason 500+ hasn't been done yet is because it never made sense. This makes sense. Cheating or not, it will be excellent. Polercoaster can give you everything, big steep drops, tight turns, inversions, crazy twists and transitions, airtime, hangtime, you name it. Being 500+ ft above the ground is only going to add to the experience. 7,000 feet of El Loco goodness. I am stoked for this one. I can't wait to see the final layout.

^Looks like it will be very fun. Not intense, but FUN. Some people are disappointed that it isn't an Intamin Megalite, but it should offer a similar experience. I was really excited when the Chance Hyperlite concept first appeared on the boards, and I'm very excited one is being built. I think the ride could be a big hit, I should be able to make a stop in Kentucky this summer and I'm really looking forward to this one.

^I think they're leaving that open to "December". Thanks for keeping us up to date. Planning a trip to Vegas the week before christmas... Fingers crossed it's opened by then. I've been dying to get on an El Loco. -
Wow that looks great. Oh Intamin I wish parks in the US weren't so quick to count out the little Intamins. Unless it's the tallest, longest, most wooden-loopiest, it isn't cool. And that sucks. Look how popular Maverick is, every time I'm at CP it has some of the longest lines in the park. I just don't get it.

Something about Anaconda was happening wasn't it....like a repaint? Yes, "something exciting for Volcano" as well. I love this park. I can't wait to see the new re-themed areas next season. Little things like this just make a family's day that much better. -
Post your milestone coasters

#100 was i305 for me. Very good choice -

Curious. Any ideas? There wouldn't be any reason to start making room for the 2015 coaster this early in the game, right? -
Shockwave (KD) is probably the most miserable roller coaster I've ever been on. The airtime was hilarious and awesome but good god does it hurt! If the ride was smooth and comfortable it would have been a great experience. I had bruises on my ribs after the fact. It just slams your body all over the place. What an amazing piece of sh*t. Other honorable mentions would include X, Viper (SFMM), and ghost rider.
