Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
YoshiFan replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This ride looks great. It seems like the type of ride that will appeal to everyone including those who want rides that aren't intense yet still be a lot of fun. I can't wait to try it next year -
Nice photos, that Old Engine 99 train is weird to see there. I wish Dutch Wonderland would have kept the ride.

Wild CP rumor.

500 foot Volare? (can you imagine spiraling around that lift hill to get to 500 feet) -
Williams Grove Closing?

That sucks, it looked like it was a fun park. I had hoped to get there next year. I at least hope the Wildcat stays in the area (it would be great at an amusement pier in Ocean City, NJ). -
Very sad to hear. I have always enjoyed his music in DDR and in the 2nd mix - 5th mix days where he had a lot of songs to contribute to a mix (like in 3rd mix he had 3 songs which is a lot for 1 artist). What really sucks is that he possibly could have avoided this for the time being as the articles on DDR Freak say he refused to change his lifestyle. I hope that in honor of him and his music Konami is able to put even more of his music in future DDR games (new songs, not just his songs from older DDR games new to the US).

What is the best floorless?

I have only been on Hydra which I thought was a great ride despite the bad reviews it has gotten, I hope to get to Great Adventure next year to try Medusa. -
Summer 2006 Trip Options
YoshiFan replied to johnhuger's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I voted for Hersheypark because I think they are one of the best well rounded parks out there. They have a great collection of coasters with all different types of coasters covered and they also have a nice collection of other rides and the environment is great (clean, good crowds usually). Chocolate World (next to Hersheypark and free to get into) is also a nice stop as well with a dark ride simulated factory tour and a huge shopping area. -
I was thinking the same thing looking at that picture. It seems like it would be easier to just push the train out of the loop.

I think boomerangs are ok. They aren't that bad if they have extra padding on top of the OSTR where your neck is like the one at Hershey has. I also think SLC's are fun rides. I'd take a B&M invert over a SLC anyday but despite some roughness I like the layout of the SLC.

Would you rather go to a smaller park?
YoshiFan replied to coasterdude5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No, I enjoy going to parks with a lot of coasters and rides. I have been to some small parks where either they have few coasters and the coasters they do have aren't that great and I am bored. I'd rather go to a park like Dorney or Hershey than a smaller park like Steel Pier in Atlantic City or a pier in Ocean City, NJ (Morey's in Wildwood being the exception) -
I don't believe they are blaming video games as part of the reason it has become less popular. Some wax museuems are still popular so I think there are other reasons, maybe it hasn't been updated in a while to have newer wax models with people who are popular today?. Madame Tussads in NYC was jammed last time I was there and everyone including kids seemed to be having a good time.

Nice photos. That ride where you pump the handle to go is a lot of fun. They also have it at Sesame Place.

Desperado Roller Coaster Stunt
YoshiFan replied to tinhead's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I couldn't tell if there was a block brake or not from the video but if there was, they could have just held the train on the block brakes until he got free. -
Because 3rd party developers think they can get the $60 because it's a new system and more expensive developer costs. I think it's horrible but I don't think it will be a problem for long. Games have a hard time selling for $49.99 as it is now (look how fast some games have price drops like Beyond Good And Evil dropped from $49.99 to $19.99 in less than 2 months!), so I think after the holiday rush, few people will be willing to spend $59.99 on a game.

Best and Worst Organised Queues
YoshiFan replied to downunder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best - Space Mountain at WDW. It's easy to follow since there aren't any switchbacks until the end and it's cool inside the building Worst - Rebel Yell at PKD, the queue is way too long. It takes forever to walk through it because there is never a wait out of the station. Laser at Dorney Park, not being able to pick your row when there is a full train is bad enough but they won't even let you pick your row at all even if the train is 1/2 full. I know it's a portable coaster but considering it has been there for almost 20 years, they should have designed a better queue and station for the ride. -
Geico, their commericals on both the TV and Radio really make me NOT want to use their insurance.

Theme Park Personality Quiz
YoshiFan replied to jobber73's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I got Kennywood 48% Theme, 34% Rides, 56% Atmosphere, 48% Value -
I went to the Jersey shore. The coasters at Ocean City were all closed for the season so I just played some DDR and then went to Atlantic City and lost $20.

Class of 2000, I just got a letter about a 5 year class reunion last week. Seems hard to believe it's been 5 years already.

Most tourists probably do know a closed SBNO ride is SBNO though. Most people who aren't into coasters or are familiar with the park would know Flashback for example is SBNO. All they see is a closed ride.

I agree about the water cannons. I knew Saw Mill Log Flume had the water cannons but I didn't know Poland Springs Plunge had them as well (which I think is horrible they would put water cannons on a ride in what is basically a kids area). It's even worse in cooler weather. I know you go on a Log Flume expecting to get wet but some of those water cannons can really get you soaked. I don't know if they do it or not but they should at least turn them off it is under a certain temperature outside.
