Zippers?
DoinItForTheFame replied to leviathandude306's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I must admit, the "Open Air Zipper" looks 100% better than the standard Zipper. However, I still would never get back on one of those things. Maybe I'm just getting to old to ride them, but just watching the video of the guy riding the open air model made me nauseous. -

I'm sorry, but I have a really hard time even letting myself feel sorry for someone who does something that puts their life in danger, or something that could potentially kill them. My thoughts are with his family and the park who both have to deal with the consequences of someone's stupid, careless actions. I feel the same way about this as I felt about the Raptor ordeal. I can't let my self feel sorry for human ignorance.

How do you evacuate a drop tower?
DoinItForTheFame replied to jmccalip's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would say if there were a power outage which caused the ride to stop partway up the tower. But even in that case there are typically generators, and again, the manual release to drop the carriage. . . I really am having a hard time figuring it a reason a drop tower would need to be evacuated. -
True. The person below me has been on Batman at SFFT.

That One Ride You Just Can't Enjoy...
DoinItForTheFame replied to HAZE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm adding Vortex at Kings Island to my list. We rode it for the first time this summer and expected it to be rough, but to say this coaster is rough is an understatement. We were expecting the typical roughness in the transitions, and such... but no. Even every flat straight segment of track was rough. It felt like we were speeding in an out of control car down a dirt road that was full of pot-holes. I think if they would remove the square wheels from the coaster it might be slightly more enjoybale. . . But as of now I have no desire to ever reride it. -

How do you evacuate a drop tower?
DoinItForTheFame replied to jmccalip's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That would be the thought going through the back of my mind too. Even though I know it would be so very extremely unlikely, if not impossible... that wouldn't stop me from freaking out about it the entire time. -

Truth. As for how you evacuate a drop tower, I think it all comes down to the tower, the park, the situation, and other things involved... But I would think for the most part you wouldn't evac it. To me it seems to dangerous to evac a drop tower. (As was proven by the video mentioned above.) I feel like a parks best bet, as many have said, is to either drop the ride from it's current location, or lower it back down slowly. Here is a video of Drop Tower stuck.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhPw5lDPBwI -and- Here is a video that clearly shows them simply lowering the ride back down after it got stuck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOQvCFN6ScM There are several other videos on YouTube that show drop towers being stuck, and lowered back down. However, I didn't feel like posting all of them. There is even one that is a really crappy video, but it shows Falcons Fury stuck with riders at the top of the tower in the face down position, and it says after being stuck for a while the carriage finally dropped back to the ground. So like I said, I don't think you evacuate a drop tower, I think you either slowly lower the carriage back down, or drop it back down.
