Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
Richard replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's just strange, Stealth suprised me with it's reliability. I remember going down on the saturday after it opened. People told me its been running smoothly for quite a few days, and it actually opened with the park with 2 trains running! I thought "yay, Thorpe Park have finally got a solid reliable ride" because i would've expected all the problems to happen during teh first few days of operating! Its strange how problems kinda..pop up. I think the same thing happened with Rita though, as i remember it seeming promising on the first few days of opening. -
So why are their new rides a Charlie And The Chocolate Factory boat ride an a Driving School (for 2007). I don't think they're getting a face lift. They're trying to appeal to the family market. Familys are the people most likely to wanna stay in the hotels, and seeing as the park is so hard to get to via public transport i doubt that marketing everything towards teenages is gonna be the best move.

haha creeeeepy. ^ I think that picture is cute due to the massive amount of donkeys in the background

Some new stuff for the Patriot
Richard replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think this coaster will be underated in the end. It doesn't look bad. It's a nice solid ride with a decent layout. It also looks tighter than Silver Bullet, so ya know, it may suprise people. But it seems to get slated alot. =/ -
Noise Orders on UK parks
Richard replied to lustate's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
their complaints are understandable, well they would be if you can actually hear Oblivion from Farley. I got bored once and went to farley while Oblivion was opperating, you can't hear a thing, maybe one or 2 clicks occasionally from the lift hill, but it's really silent. The thing that anoys me is that the ropers want the noise of oblivion to equal the sound of a small village at night time. That's just stupid, esspecially considering their factory makes much much much more noise. Due to them it no longer says "don't look down" at the top of the drop which kinda sucks. Alton have tried quietening it down abit more by doin something to the anti-roll backs which is alright. ontop of that the ropers have complained about the fireworks, which is 5 nights every year. Alton offered them £200 a night to go out during that time!!! (the show lasts about 1hour a night). And they turned that down and then after still complained about that noise. The court has forced alton to now reduce the firework show and to only have it on for ONE night. Which is a really bummer because Alton is extremely popular during teh fireworks and the last few years have threatened to turn people back because the park was too full. I can't imagine how packed it will be if they only have one firework show. -

I doubt it will be too bad on opening day. mainly coz it's a wednesday. I'd expect it to be packed on the saturday which is the day I'm going . So um lol yeh. I hope the queue don't exceed 2 hours, and it don't break down too much. I gotta wake up at 3am to get there .

Nemesis is probably my favourite ride. I love the feeling when you so close to the ground during teh first drop then whoosh, you fly upwards and the ground turns into a cliff and your suddenly really high up, upside down where you see the whole ride for a split second before slamming into the most intense helix I've ever ridden. *ahem* But you cannot call Batman:The Ride bog standard. I've ridden the one in chicago and it's a great ride! A bit rough maybe but it bloody powerful, it really got my feet tingling.

This ride is brilliantly themed!! Shame it's a SLC. This picture doesn't show it off the best, theres much more theming past the trees, it dives into loads of tunnels and the buildings are like..ace...and realistic!

What is the Best B&M Stand-Up Coaster
Richard replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I loved Iron Wolf! 8) although, I did expect it to be rough so I rode it in the Vekoma position. The twists and stuff are so insanely quick, and like the track changes angles it dodgy places, like teh bottom of the first drop lol. But yeh, its the only one I've ridden so I can't vote for the best, but I still think it's a tad under-rated, I found it dead fun! -
Yup Yup ^ Only half (or even just a third) of Oblivion's drop is above ground, I think it's about 100ft of it as Oblivion is only 80ft above ground level and the total drop length is 180ft. It's about the same size as SheiKra's drop. You should see the construction photos, it's one HUGE hole. Anyway, I enjoyed the report, some great photos. Glad you enjoyed the rides! hehe. And yeh Air has gotten more intense recently, esspecially on the lye-back bit, it made my head go funny.

I rode PMBO with Ed that day, when it was snowing. It was so so so so so cold, some guys thought it would be funny to ride topless, hehe bless em. But yeh it was SO cold that by the end of the ride our eyes were watering and our faces were numb. -

Richard replied to crispy's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
yeh, great idea, I'm all up for teh competitions, I only have RCT2 atm, but meh, it'll be very interesting to see the level of quality that TPR park builders can come up with. Also, I always love a challenge -
when I think of coasters in my sleep I usually experince air-time!! but I usually end up having to clean the sheets afterwards.

yaay, the gay capital of the UK. I hope Robb is having fun *nods*. -
The park is called Atlantis Gardens and is inspired by different forms of mythology. The concept of water being a big part in the whole design was from the Atlantis myths and each ride is based on some aspects of greek mythology. The park's signature ride is the extremely popular Posiden. It's a B&M Flyer and uses the terrain to enhance the roller coaster experience. It glides close to the ground and it full or intense twists and crazy air-time, along with a pretzal loop finale to create an incredible flying experience. Icarus is the newest ride in the park. I short bust of speed sends you soaring 200ft vertically upwards towards the sun, before falling straight back down. This Intamin Impulse was extremely hard to fit into the park due to the limited space, but it's worked well. Although I dunno how to do the custom supports . The family ride of the park is Styx, based on the river that runs in the underworld. This ride will soak you to the bone and also, expect the unexpected in the caves you travel through. Ok, so this park has only three rides, but each one was well thought out and alot of effort went into the detail. Please download and rate. enjoy. --DOWNLOAD-- ------ -----
