  1. Yep. I imagine it will be completely assembled in the next 2-3 days, and we could possibly see testing soon. Does anybody know how long it takes to test new flat rides before opening? Do they need as many runs as new roller coasters do? I'd love to see this open sometime during the Festival!
  2. In a perfect world, I would love to see Sky Cabin replaced with a Star Flyer (like the one at Valleyfair) and have it incorporated with the new coaster somehow. It could also keep the signature K on top. But I don't see the park purchasing a new tower ride after all the problems they've had with Windseeker and now Sky Cabin. Being that Boomerang is closing so early in the year, I imagine Knott's knows exactly what they are doing with the site next year, and if Sky Cabin were part of that plan, I don't see why they would spend time trying to fix it over the last three months only to have it removed. But I guess we won't know until they announce their plans. If Sky Cabin does stay, I hope they touch it up with some new paint and new windows. The windows were disgusting and very hard to look through clearly.
  3. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. Will definitely try it when I head back in a couple weeks for the Boysenberry Festival.
  4. I visited the park yesterday and took a ride on Boomerang. I couldn't be more happy that it's leaving; it felt worse now than it has ever been. Being my nerdy self, I stopped on the Boardwalk and took a look in and around the Boomerang area, and it really isn't much space. Knott's really has to get creative to install some large new coaster. As much as I think a B&M Hyper would be perfect for the park, I could see one of those mini B&M Dive Coasters (Krake, Baron 1898, Oblivion the Black Hole) being a more plausible addition. Regardless, I'm just stoked that Boomerang is outta here. That park is not losing anything from it's lineup (they still have a shuttle coaster, a ride with a cobra roll, and two rides with vertical loops), and it has lived a long life. Even if the park puts in more family rides, at least Boomerang is gone.
  5. This is great. I think retractable seat belts should be on every coaster (that has seat belts). They're more comfortable and don't allow for any slack, and they can be computer-controlled if necessary (like Star Flyers).
  6. In class last week. When was the last time you rode a Mack Wild Mouse?
  7. Sorry for the double post, but here are some (legal) photos of Sol Spin sitting in the west lot of the park. Credits go to Charles from Knott's Nuts.
  8. Great news. The foundation looks like it's ready, and I believe the first piece has been laid on the Windseeker anchor bolts. Hopefully this thing goes up quickly and opens next month! EDIT: There's a blurry photo of the pieces on Knott's Network's Instagram page. I won't post it here since I'm not sure whose photo it is and where they took it from.
  9. While I'd love to finally have a proper hyper or giga in California, my biggest worry is how it'll make Knott's look. Surely any large B&M over 200ft is sure to dominate the skyline. Silver Bullet is already an eyesore to those of us who remember the old, quaint, pre-Cedar Fair Knott's. A hyper would be 2-3 times more ostentatious than SB. Do we really want Knott's to look like Gröna Lund?? I think it's neat how everything sits on top of one another there, but it'd look extremely tacky at Knott's. I see where you're coming from, but I think there is a difference between adding a new coaster that partially replaces another coaster in the Boardwalk area of the park (sprawling and open) and plopping an inverted coaster on top of a lake in Ghost Town. Plus, I think something under 200 feet is much more likely for the park...along the lines of Hollywood Dream or Goliath at La Ronde. Will be interesting to see what happens.
  10. This! I love these types of rides to death (I mean, Skyrush is my favorite coaster), but there is something to be said about floaty fun airtime versus crazy ejector (I love Nitro almost as much as Skyrush for a very different reason). With Twisted Colossus up the road and Xcelerator right next door, I think a floaty B&M Hyper is exactly what is missing in SoCal, and if Knott's managed to fit one in and make it look nice, I think it could go over really, really well. I'll be at the park tomorrow to check out Boysenberry prep as well as Sol Spin and Soak City construction. And while I'll likely be back before April 23rd, I'm gonna grab some extra rides on Boomerang that I otherwise wouldn't do.
  11. I know you're probably kidding, but this is the absolute last thing I want to see them add. The park already has a good shuttle coaster, THREE launched coasters, and enough low-capacity rides. Bring on the people-eating B&M!
  12. ^I think a B&M Dive Coaster would be great as well. Of course, a B&M Hyper would be a much more "welcome" addition since it is a type of coaster seriously lacking on this side of the Mississippi (but I guess you could argue the same for a Dive), but given the space the park has to work with, I'm down for any high-capacity ride that isn't an orange family coaster. Seriously, Knott's, please, for the love of all that is holy, don't make this new ride orange... I think I will scream if I see another orange coaster in the park.
  13. I completely avoid SFMM during Spring Break(s). It's a total zoo and not even worth visiting unless you have Flash Pass (good thing you're getting one). The lines suck during late March / early April.
  14. Plot twist: Knott's is getting Kanonen. Seriously though, I'm pretty much ecstatic for any new addition if it meets this criteria: 1. Thrilling steel coaster 2. Focused on airtime 3. Good capacity 4. Aesthetically pleasing Especially number 4. Boomerang was a piece of crap, but it sure was pretty to look at and had one of my favorite color schemes ever.
  15. Skyrush's first drop in the back left wing seat is unreal. I've never been so scared on a roller coaster in my life. El Toro's Rolling Thunder hill in the back seat is insane as well. Also, Millennium Force, Fahrenheit, Maverick, GateKeeper, Tatsu, X2, Twisted Colossus, and Wicked Cyclone are all honorable mentions. But nothing beats Skyrush.
  16. ^I think it's fair to assume that CGA will be getting a water park expansion/rebrand in 2018 since they get Patriot this year. I don't see the Hyper going there until 2019 or even 2020. There have been zero signs of "Ziz" at CW except for random rumors. Not saying either one isn't possible next year, but Knott's is showing signs of something of decent size next year (whether it's a B&M or not) and CGA and CW are not as far as I know. Whether Knott's is adding a coaster, more flats, water ride, or whatever, they have something big coming in 2018, otherwise I don't see why they would close down Boomerang before the summer season (and it's actually a fairly popular ride). Plus, Northern California and Southern California are basically two different states. I don't think a B&M Hyper up north will "harden the blow" for anything coming to SoCal and vice versa.
  17. Me too. I'm ecstatic that Knott's decided to take out their POS Boomerang and repaint and refurbish their Schwarzkopf shuttle loop (which is a MUCH bigger pain to take care of, I imagine). Just goes to show that they really care about their unique classics. Speaking of classics, is there any chance Sky Cabin's days are numbered as well? I know the "K" on top is considered an icon or whatever, but if that thing got removed too, we're talking about a decent plot of land to work with.
  18. As much as I love the ride, the first drop on Silver Bullet is the worst / tamest part of the layout.
  19. It seems almost certain to me that Cedar Fair is gonna scrap this piece of sh**. I can't seem them pulling a Six Flags and moving a 27-year-old boomerang. But if they do move it, it is most certainly going to Dorney!
  20. AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Sorry. That's how filled with excitement I am. Please excuse me. EDIT: Also, what surprises me is that they are closing it so early in the year. Could we get a new coaster in 2018?!
  21. Superman at SFMM is by far the loudest, most piercing roller coaster ever. It's to the point where it's incredibly obnoxious to walk anywhere near it when it launches.
  22. If Six Flags wanted to convert Green Lantern or Apocalypse, they can be my guest, but Riddler and Scorcher should really stay stand-ups. Green Lantern would certainly be interesting as a stand-up — especially with the center of gravity located at the riders' feet. I was referring to the stand-up coasters at SFGAdv and SFA, not the wooden coaster and Intamin ZacSpin in the same park Sorry for not being clear...
  23. They Hershey tower really does look underwhelming. Hopefully it's still testing a weaker cycle.
