  1. I'm assuming you mean the Westbridge Inn in Clinton. Don't stay in Clinton. Don't. Leave earlier from Worlds of Fun (you don't need a whole day) and make sure you fill up on gas before the sun goes down. Early August, sunset is like 8:00, so you've got plenty of chances. After sunset, if you're looking low, there's a Pilot truck stop near Collins. You'll be fine there. It's well lighted and they're used to people from all over the place. If you can't make it all the way to Branson in one go, you're going to want to drive at least to Springfield. Don't stop before Springfield. There are also some cheap hotels in Ozark (a suburb of Springfield along Highway 65, so in the direction of Branson) that are fine too. Besides safety, you're also going to want to be at SDC early. They open at 9:30, but the parking lots are quite a ways from the park itself. They'll shuttle you to the front gate, but that does take some time. I would plan to be there by 8:30 if you want to make it by opening. Easier to do if you're in Branson already or at least within an hour of it. The ABVI you're talking about--if it's the one in Rolla, you're fine. It's a college town, engineering school with lots of international students, right on the Interstate. No one will mess with you there. St. Robert is fine too. It's near Ft. Leonard Wood, lots of travelers there too. Generally speaking, the trip from Springfield to St. Louis is a lot safer than KC to Springfield.
  2. There are plenty of holidays. Valentine's Day and Easter would fit the park, and they could do St. Patrick's Day well. Arbor Day would be cool if they went with like a fantasy forest theme like some European parks have. Just gotta be creative. And these folks have creativity in spades.
  3. Honestly, if they name it anything except "Quimera" or "Chimera," it's a win.
  4. That is Coasterbill's, and he's completely right. Those pierogis are the sh*t.
  5. So I'm guesing both Fox 29 and Great Adventure are hiring an editor?
  6. Yes, but I like how SFFT would try to fill 3 trains at once so you could grab that single rider or group of 3 and fill all the trains. Very smart, and very necessary with 8 riders per train.
  7. This is a good point too. Usually we are asked by people who are already planning trips and have the money for the fastpass but want to know if it will be worth purchasing. That's where the thread title comes in. Whether you should ONLY go to a park if you can purchase a fastpass is an entirely different question, and in many cases the answer is no, parks can still be worthwhile even without a fastpass. Where I would say don't go right now, wait until Covid and post-Covid cabin fever subside is in that once-in-a-lifetime trip to a park on another continent. But a park in the next state over that you could easy come back to again? Sure, go. Same with a park you've previously visited. Right now, it comes down to: Without a fastpass, you're not going to get on everything. If that's ok with you, then go for it. If you can't bear the idea of only riding half their rides, then you're better off waiting. And we're all going to be waiting to go to Japanese parks, no matter what.
  8. Nah, no height limit here. They can make the humps as big as they want.
  9. Haha, I forgot about this. I'm glad someone picked up on it, even if it took 15 months.
  10. I've seen one person run Thunderation solo, checking every restraint then running up to the control panel. They had someone else come in every so often to give the main op a bathroom break. It can be done.
  11. I get why they're doing it, and I'm glad they're at least open, but this park of all parks to close before sunset is brutal. I'd much rather they be open 2 to 11 than 11 to 8. Maybe they'll get some takers at $18/hr.
  12. Yes. Still the same seat belts. Nothing has changed.
  13. Really seems like they just pulled a stock B roll of the park. They probably use that exact footage for any story they do about HW.
  14. Oh definitely the turkey leg fight. I am all for stupid petty rivalries. It's cute that KC wants to pick a fight with St. Louis like we haven't had a grudge with Chicago for 200 years now.
  15. Ugh, why does Missouri have to be so Missouri all the time?
  16. Worlds of Fun - Woodstock Gliders (Larson). Allowed but hard to do since it goes slowly and with a short cycle (Located inside Planet Snoopy).
  17. Simple. More people go to Pigeon Forge than Branson. More people live within a reasonable drive of Pigeon Forge than Branson. Spend the money where you can make the money. Very happy about the new resort. Dream More is a fantastic hotel, and I'm sure the quality on this one will be similar. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to start packing....
  18. Same! As for me (wow been a while since I've posted in this thread), tonight's selection is Urban Underdog Lager from St. Louis' very own Urban Chestnut Brewery.
  19. ^ Agreed on Frontier City. All your points are spot on. Magic Springs on the other hand is a really nice waterpark attached to a really crappy amusement park. If you're not there for the slides, I wouldn't even bother. X Coaster is kind of neat, but the rest of the coaster collection is painful. There are a couple of cool flats left, but every year it seems they ditch a cool flat, leaving less incentive to go.
  20. Curse you, ambiguity!!! I wouldn't object to the whole ride being in a building, but yeah Paramount was the only one ever to fund a building like that, and I doubt we'll see that again. I meant an indoor queue. Appreciated in the stupid hot Texas summers, but also a really great opportunity to set a creepy mood. It would be cool if they did.
  21. You can't even manage not to argue against a thank you....smh
