Iron Wolf. Replaces both a looping coaster and a sea lion show.

PortAventura Discussion Thread

^ I doubt that. 30-36 seconds is reasonable under ideal circumstances, which is how you want to design it. You don't want the riders and crew to be ready but waiting for the machinery. But every fourth second isn't a reasonable amount of time, and the added expenses involved in having enough power to reel in a cable quickly, plus the increased possibility of the cable being damaged at those high speeds, are all reasons that engineers would not even attempt to design it for that capability. So sorry, but I'm calling bullsh*t. You don't know what you're talking about. -
^ Yes, totally agree. That sign tripped me up. I had already identified the entrance because I saw the switchbacks going up the hill, but then I saw the sign and second guessed myself. After a minute I saw people coming toward me on the exit path and figured it out, but I did look like an idiot there before that happened.

This is a really great question, and a really great answer too. I appreciate all the time and thought that went into this. Fantastic read.

It's awesome being a coaster enthusiast that hates large crowds but avoids them by not going on Saturday's in October without budgeting for fast pass. -

7/10 Value for money is the biggest positive. Lots of coasters, most of which are good. Waterpark on site and included with admission. Biggest negative is that feeling of always being hounded for more money. I'm less likely to want to do extra stuff in the parks because of the likelihood I'll have to pay separately for it. With large construction projects, there are some parts that are more visible than others. My town is building a new overpass right now, and there were several weeks between when they graded the ramps and when they laid the gravel, then several more before they started paving. They weren't just sitting doing nothing during that time, but it was all smaller stuff, less noticeable than a new 1/4 mile of concrete. It doesn't make sense to drag a construction project longer than it has to be. Variable expenses go up, and you delay getting any return. Every construction project everywhere is completed as fast as possible. There are always delays and unexpected difficulties, but planned delays just aren't a thing.

^ Yeah, between Labour Day and Thanksgiving, Branson doesn't get a lot of out of town guests, so it's just locals. Thus weekdays are very slow and weekends are busy. And yes, SDC ride ops go full speed regardless of queue length. Their perspective is not "how do we clear this line?" but "how do we make these guests' ride as good as it can be?" Just one of the many ways SDC is awesome.

Let's discuss Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again! This show is so much a product of the 1970s, and Tim Curry is such a legend, that it seems any remake would never be able to stand up to the original. And so it seems has happened. Yet if you take it not as a movie remake, but as a revival, live theatre style, it's very enjoyable. I loved the live theatre feel to this one, which I think stands out even more than the original does. It felt like I was watching a live performance more than a movie, which is a rare and exciting opportunity. On the other hand, there was a very dated feel to it, seemingly a stylistic choice to update nothing from the 1970s version. It was a little strange; I was honestly expecting some things to be updated, especially the use of the word "transvestite"--I know that's part of the original show, and it was edgy at the time, but it seems out of place in a world where gay marriage is legal and we understand the concept of a gender spectrum. If there had been a musical with a song called "Sweet Retards," I would expect that would be changed as well. Still, the show was quite enjoyable for what it was, and casting Tim Curry as narrator was fun. It's a rare occasion to see a musical on television, and for what in essence was free live theatre, I can't complain too much.

I've been on several more since my last post to this thread, so here's the update. 1. Raptor 2. Silver Bullet 3. Banshee 4. Batman 5. Patriot -
Ouch. Two games with great concepts that just didn't pan out as planned. I'd have to say Spore. Designing the creatures was very fun. Puffins or penguins?
