Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread

It's about time you made your monthly post. -
How was it a mistake? The last couple times I've gone we waited ten minutes max, with the longest line of the day appearing to be around 20-30 minutes. The queue is also in plain view, so if someone wants to jump into an hour wait they do so willingly. I see no reason for SFGam to look at Joker as a mistake. A S&S Free Spin had already been installed at SFGAdv, which is a very large park. Free Spins are a ton of fun and everyone always seems to be laughing and smiling when they walk away from them.

Jungle Jims looks neat. Emily has this weird thing with enjoying browsing in different grocery stores around the country, so I'm going to have to remember this. -

Glad you had a good visit, Dirk. As far as the lights on Mine Train go, it's better that the limited resources are spent on the overall atmosphere versus one ride. It probably wouldn't take much work, but there are other time and money investments into the overall experience that will pay off more and every little bit counts. I agree, it would be nice. But, after reading reports of less lights and defective lights strands I would have them pour every bit of effort where it's really needed. -

Kim, have you ever been to KI's Haunt? I personally found it even a stop above CW, which is why KI is pretty well known for its haunt. -

You made it to 700 coasters, which involved research or planning, most of which I'm assuming you did on your own. That's pretty much expert level. You really don't need our advice about where to go. If you do, you're like the guy who has worked his same job for 40 years, knows the in and outs, but still sucks at it. You want to experience a park where you can have fun, relax, and enjoy attractions for what they are? Spend a shit of time and money researching yourself where to go overseas. Or you can just go to Knoebels... Thread lock seems imminent. I'm hurting my eyes by reading this. -

Yeah, if you can't enjoy rides such as Robb mentioned, then I don't think you're going to get much enjoyment anywhere you go. I reiterate, hang em up for a while. You asked for advice. Listen to it. -

Although I suppose there could be another addition with the petting zoo, it never ceases to amaze me how two out of the three large Missouri parks get passed over for roller coasters year after year. Outside of Justice League, I can't remember when either SFSTL or WoF has received any large scale attraction. -

It's good that after reading more it's being clarified that you're trying to change the way you look at the parks. That said, I still think you would benefit most from taking a break for a few months until you really get that urge. My wife and I embrace the off season, because not only does it give us a chance to save more money..., but it also renews our appreciation that recharges from January - May. If you have legitimate OCD, then it seems like your coaster count is a symptom of that. In all seriousness, maybe you should bring that up with your doctor. Try to find something to do that relaxes you more, without getting to wrapped up in it. For the love of God, though... not golf or fishing... You'll drive yourself insane. Maybe something where there are no tangible results. Fuck it. Just find someone to go to the beach with for a week and, if you must, count your drinks and how many times you get laid... Sometimes I feel the need to get better and better at ice hockey. I get the compulsive need to do better, because I think I need to put up more points to have fun. I always think of ways I can change it up to do better in order to feel better about myself. When I get to that level, I hang up my skates for a while until I have such an urge to lace them up that I just enjoy being on the ice again. Sometimes, this takes months. You may not think you need a break from it all and that very well may be the case. However, there's no way it won't help restore some appreciation. Give it a rest for a bit. Good luck. -

Fantastic advice, and I agree 100%. No offense, but 700 credits sounds exhausting. I don't even know what I would get out of reaching a tangible number like that or having to find the newest fix. You might just want to relax and enjoy yourself. I don't understand the point of this hobby if you can't re visit a park and appreciate it for what it has. For us, first visits aren't nearly as fun as revisits, because there are no goals the second time around. Honestly man, it sounds like you've burned yourself out. Give it some time off before you hit another park, maybe? Also... I still laugh at the term, "credits." I also read a little further and agree with Robb's post. Why is the OP asking advice from people when he's ridden over 700 coasters, anyway? Most of us have only ridden a couple hundred, if that. I also can't help but detect a slight undertone of bragging here. -

I also think the timing was great. CF parks had an advantage of monitoring the success of SF HITP events before making their own mark on the Holiday Season. I think the one down side to CF's approach is that they won't pull in as many out of town visitors by having less major attractions open. But, like I said before, they don't need to do anything drastically different from their current strategy. -

It seems like they don't need to take that approach, man. They might as well just keep on doing what they're doing. Cedar Fair doesn't need to worry about what goes on behind the scenes by making sure the queues are well kept, keeping the stations looking nice, adjust maintenance schedules, and hiring additional staff. I've yet to go to a CF Winterfest event, but it seems like they're nailing it by keeping the holiday feel more concentrated. I've been to two Holiday in the Park events at Six Flags Saint Louis. They're fun and the midways look nice. However, when you leave the midways and go through the cold dreary and run down looking queues, it takes away from the event. Granted, Six Flags Saint Louis is known for unnecessarily long run down queues all season long, but it almost feels like leaving the event for a while and then returning. I like the two different flavors offered between Six Flags and Cedar Fair. -

Because it's only $50, which is dirt cheap. Use it for a Haunt, another event, or a weekend if possible. You could also take someone who doesn't normally go. -

Speaking of Freeze, another user in the SFoG thread posted an interesting blog that followed the coaster from its announcement, through the delay, and to the opening. It was interesting to browse through. The writer's focus was on SFoT, but there was still a lot of good information on our version. http://web.archive.org/web/20130324040452/http://home.roadrunner.com/~gep2/mrfreeze.html -

^This is St. Louis, Bill and it's 11 o'clock right now. Everyone in the Midwest has the winter weather predicted identical to a frozen scene from the movie The Day After Tomorrow. We can't predict what the weather will be like on Thanksgiving, but for some reason everyone knows what the weather will be like from now to the end of March. No worries, because by 5 o'clock, everyone will be up in arms about global warming, again. January: "It's so cold outside! I can tolerate the heat, but I can't tolerate the cold." February: "This winter seems like it has lasted forever." March: "We didn't get much snow this winter. Not like we used to when I was a kid ." April: "Wow! It's 30 degrees one day and 70 degrees the next! Yesterday I was in a tee shirt, but today I'm wearing a coat!" May: "Boy! We skipped Spring and went straight to Summer!" June: "It's so hot outside! I can tolerate the cold, but I can't tolerate the heat." July: "It's so muggy today! I don't mind the heat, but it's the humidity that makes it so miserable!" August: "All of my grass is dead. If we don't get some rain, we're going to be in trouble!" September: "I sure wish it would stop raining so much!" October: "Boy! We skipped fall and went straight to winter!" November: "I can't believe it's so cold this early in the year! I heard it's going to be a bad winter!" December: "It hasn't been this cold in years!" I guess you can't blame anyone, because sadly there isn't much else to talk about in this region. I guess I'd rather hear all of the cliche comments about the weather than hear everyone talk about Cardinals Baseball or deer hunting. My Snapchat is cluttered with pictures of smiling faces posed next to dead animals.
