Where Are You Going in 2018?
prozach626 replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In August, we're going to start trying for our one and only kid while vacationing in Hawaii. Our in-laws have already paid for the trip for their 50th anniversary, so we're incredibly fortunate and thankful for that. With all of this in mind, we're going to try to hit a lot of parks next year: Definites: Canada's Wonderland (1 of two bucket list parks) Carowinds (Return trip for my favorite roller coaster, Fury) SFGam (Return trip - frequently visited) King's Island (Return trip - frequently visited) SFSTL (Home park) Coasters and Castles for about an hour (Return trip to Phoenix/Sedona, first touch-and-go at CC) Probably: SFGam (Haven't been back in eighteen years) Maybe: SFoG (Return trip five years ago) SFoT (2 of 2 bucket list parks) Probably not: BGW CW and SFoT are bucket list parks, because I have no desire to go overseas to ride roller coasters. There are plenty of great options here. If we happen to go overseas and a park is nearby, we'll go. I'm pretty content and probably simple minded, so traveling to another continent just doesn't interest me. There's so much to see here. I'd say your original "quiet" plan sounds like my definition of a very busy year lol... Haha. I agree. Sounds like a solid summer for Ed. -

I don't know of many chain parks that have signature sit down restaurants. Melt is a pretty big exception. -

Hopefully that doesn't increase the crowds for Coaster Campout with people squeezing in their first visits of the season ASAP. -

^I haven't been to a park in a long time that sends the last train for another lap. SFSTL used to do it all the time. -

I would imagine some people get pretty anxious about it. Being on the last train of the season has probably started quite a few arguments, which would be funny to laugh at. -

Seems like it. I've heard a lot less complaining this year, especially around the Haunt. Also, everyone said our trip would be a nightmare in May, but when we went for Coaster Campout all of the rides were open, including both antique cars rides. The smaller shops weren't open and a lot of the flat rides opened late. Other than that, it was perfect. -

^ A bunch of dudes smelling like ketchup and onions arguing over who's going to go in front of who on a two train wait. lol -

Non wheel seat in the middle of the train. This formula has never given us a rough ride on Racer and it works for most traditional (non GCI) wooden coasters. Bouncy? Yes. Rough? No. We love Screaming Eagle at SFSTL. It's probably our favorite at the park. We always sit in the middle of the train on a non wheel seat and every ride is great. The last time we rode we went with two other people and to time being on the right train we had to sit on a wheel. Night and day experience and it totally sucked. Our formula of non wheel-middle row has even worked on brutal rides like Boss. Lean forward and it makes wooden roller coasters even more tolerable. -

^The people who bitch on social media are usually idiots. I can't even count how many times the weather forecast has been terrible to where the entire St. Louis Metro area shuts down, including events, work, government offices, etc. Then, we don't get one snow flake. I think the park made the right move to wait it out and then they're still opening up for The Haunt. Shit happens when you're going to any outdoor event and people need to be prepared for closures due to weather and try to plan around it as best as possible. Sporting events aren't canceled for inclimate weather until up to the minute and people travel great distances to attend those. Common sense says if the forecast for the area sucks, I'm not going to wake up early and drive distances to go to the park. -

Glad you had a good time. There's no shame in your liking for Raptor. It's a great invert. Emily doesn't care for the little bit of head banging, or I would ride it more during our somewhat rare visits. You and I share this rare opinion. Between our two days at CP during coaster camp out we rode three times. We waited in line for it over an hour during the day. I really liked it, but it didn't come anywhere close to being one of my favorites, since my tastes are different. We had ERT at night for two hours and we could have had as many chances to ride as we wanted, with everything being a station wait. We rode in the back and liked it a little less. We waited ten minutes for the front and I was done with it after the MCBR where the ride just tries to throw you off left and right. Once or twice a visit is enough for me. I think we liked it best in the middle. Do you care for Maverick, or is that more of the same, like with SV? It's the perfect level twisty/airtime/crazyness for me. I definitely prefer a good hyper or MF vs. a RMC. -
The thing about the last call fall festival that puzzled me the most was that they sold a sheet of something like 20 tickets for $20. You could pay with tickets or cash, but the tickets were the same value as the cash... $3 per sample - 3 tickets per sample. The only thing you gained was a small map of where to buy the food and beer, which wasn't hard to figure out at all.

Choose your words more carefully. I'm still wondering who suggested the park could be sold. I think it's just you. -

I think the helix on Diamondback is more a visual element for the crowd and the riders. It also capitalizes on the freedom of the clam shell restraints for riders who just want to relax and put their arms up at that point. The shed on Mystic Timbers wasn't supposed to be the grand finale, like enthusiasts hyped it up to be. It just gives you something to look at instead of sitting on the brake run. Your time in the shed will depend on how quickly the train in the station is dispatched. I've heard complaints about Racer being rough, but I haven't experienced that. This is probably largely because we never sit on wheel seats and we always sit in the middle of the train. It's the safest place to have a good time. The difference between a wheel seat and a non wheel seat on rides like Racer and Screaming Eagle are almost night and day. Glad you had a fun trip. It sounds like you enjoyed the park. -

Sure. And these accusations are all from people who have no idea what they're talking about. SF is buying parks, not selling them. -

And some time later there was a roller coaster named in his honor... for about two years. -
Is anyone planning on going to the Last Call Fall Festival? I'm kind of surprised they're having it again. The event seemed like a bust, last year. Maybe they'll step it up this year. Last year we got the Six Flags experience, being that the weather sucked in the morning and started to clear up about an hour after the park opened. The day ended up being beautiful, but they closed the park due to inclimate weather, because they didn't get the attendance they wanted.

Add four to that from Emily and I visiting twice. Add another two, because my brother & sister in-laws went with us on one visit. Total hours in the park for me... 6. Ask FB and have the other users chime in for a more accurate perspective.
