Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

^Nice report! I totally agree about raptor, I love it! My favourite invert and I found it to be very smooth (apart from the cobra roll and that last turn, as you mentioned). I also liked my first ride on gatekeeper a lot (2nd row) and, overall, it's really fun. It's just that I got a few nasty vibrations closer to the back. It also rained a bit while I was there and it was pretty much like you said, all B&Ms were running and we kept in that area around gatekeeper, maxair,... I found a bit curious that one of the excuses they gave us for closing some coasters in the rain were the brakes (that supposedly don't work as well) and then all B&Ms were running and they rely exclusively on friction brakes which, unlike magnetic ones, may get affected when it rains, except for gatekeeper which has two magnetic ones but it's still mostly friction. This is why I like B&M so much, they're reliable and operate in several environments. -
What is the best floorless?
rcjp replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have only been on Superman at Parque Warner, Bizarro and Hydra. Superman is my favourite because it has a big straight drop, a really floaty zero g and an airtime hill instead of a MCBR. Oh, and it's also a bit taller than the other two. -
What is your next park?
rcjp replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, the closest park from where I live is about 330 miles away so I can't really afford more than one coaster trip per year (although it may include several parks). I really want to go to Germany next year and if I do I guess I'll do Europa Park first. -
The Boomerang Challenge
rcjp replied to downunder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, here it goes: Sidewinder - Hershey aaaannd.... that's it... Well if I count other types of boomerangs I've also been on Stinger at Dorney and Stunt Fall at Parque Warner. -
Best American B&M Inverted coaster
rcjp replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've only been on these ones: Batman (SFGAd); Talon; Great Bear; Ratpor. I will choose Raptor as, despite being a tiny bit less forceful than Batman, it makes up in length (and it's always a bit more unique). This is how every B&M should be! -
Have you ever been on a coaster in the rain?
rcjp replied to socalMAN123's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Last week when I went to Cedar Point it rained for an hour or so and I got to ride both Raptor and Wicked Twister in the rain! I also rode gatekeeper in the meantime but either it wasn't raining at all or it was so light I couldn't even feel it. -
Poll: Favorite Inversion?
rcjp replied to timetrial3141592's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I also love the way Khan's zero g whips you around. I actually got zero g most of the times, but it's just way faster than most other B&Ms (apart from some inverts). I also love the fact that, because it's so fast, you only start twisting when you're really close to the top of the hill so when I rode the front I was like, going up the hill and looking at the part of the track that is upside down (right in front of me) and thinking: that's where we're going now. It's kind of hard to explain but it just felt so cool! -
Most Intense Rides You've Been On
rcjp replied to StrataKirby's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Since I rode Skyrush I have to pic that one. It's so intense, high positive and negative Gs, incredible pacing, it never lets down for a single second and the transitions are so fast you only get time to take a breath at the very end. Even on the Stengel dive (as long as you take the left winged seat) you get massive airtime! It's also one of the only two coasters that have made me grey out on one of the rides I took. Breathtaking! -
What is your favorite launch coaster?
rcjp replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kingda Ka for me. So intense, so fast... Although I also like Furius Baco's as, despite being less intense than Ka's, it somehow manages to feel almost as good (maybe because you're feet are dangling). -
What is your favorite Roller Coaster?

For me it has to be the inverted models. They have a lot of potential to be intense, fast and thrilling. Still, I also like the floorless coasters (at least the ones I've ridden). And I think I is a shame that they didn't built more than a few sitting coasters as most of them were proper oldschool B&Ms, I just feel like there aren't enough of them to make a decent evaluation even though my favourite B&M (Dragon Khan) is one of them.

I actually noticed that. Got 3 rides on MF in two days, two of which were in the morning and the other one was in the afternoon (and it was rather hot that day). I definitely noticed that there was more consistent airtime as it went a bit faster in the afternoon ride. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Top Thrill Dragster in the front at night! A lot of wind and bugs in my face. -

^I only noticed bugs towards the night. I rode a few coasters in the front during the day and I was OK. However, when I rode Top Thrill Dragster in the front at night... well, I felt like a National Geographic documentary could be made on my shirt and face. -

^^ About skyrush's restraints: I guess the pain may depend on the person who is riding, their leg shape and weight. I don't usually complain if a coaster has a less pleasant part (like magum's restraints, they do hurt, but not that much) but these ones were quite painful. I like to go hands up the whole time but on skyrush I really couldn't as I was impelled to grab the bars on the side to relieve the pain a bit. I agree with you when you say it doesn't take away the thrill but I did feel them during all airtime moments (and so did my dad). ^^^About great bear, like I said, this is my opinion and I guess some people like that straight bit and other don't, it really depend's on tastes. I still find it a great ride, though, but I just found the other B&M inverts I've ridden even better. Oh, and I do like the way most coasters in that area travel around the place and interact with other rides. A really great park! -
I don't know if this has happened to anyone else but I had imagined an element just like that zero g stall before. It's not the first time it happens to me but it's kind of cool to see this is actually being built. As to the ride itself: looks great and if it turns out to be like the other RMC it should be awesome! Just looks a bit short, though.

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
rcjp replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Went to Hershey for the first time around a week ago. Here are some of my reviews: (these are highly subjective, they are MY opinion only) Wildcat: Extremely rough. I only got on one ride so I can't tell for sure that this ride is always like this but it was very very shaky. Gave me some rather unpleasant headache. Not a good experience even though the layout itself is interesting and it maintains some speed throughout the entire ride (so I guess re-tracking it or something that made it smoother would be great). Lightning racer: Nice fun ride, got on both sides (which were rather similar) and, like wildcat, it has a nice pace while being much smoother. My first ever dueling ride and was a pleasant experience. The only thing I didn't like that much were the restraints (this was my first GCI) as they seemed to press on my bladder a bit. Apart from that, cool ride. Fahrenheit: Great ride, very smooth and, so far, my only beyond vertical drop coaster. The airtime on the first drop is pretty intense and so is on that last hill after the tight overbank. Overall, nice forces, interesting layout. I was a bit surprised as I wasn't expecting that much because, for some reason, all the reviews I'd read or heard weren't that good. Really cute little compact ride. Storm Runner: Awesome! One of my favourite coasters so far. Intense quick launch, loads of airtime on the tophat, a nice pop of ejector right before the heartline roll, incredible pace, smooth,.... The only thing that keeps it fro reaching my number 1 spot is the short length. Apart from that, it is nearly perfect for me. Great Bear: So far, my least favourite B&M invert. Not necessarily bad (the other ones I've ridden were some of the batman clones, raptor and talon). It might have some old school B&m forces in some parts and that predrop helix is very unique, it's just that it has some pauses between elements like the straight after the loop but mainly the ones before and after the corkscrew which really make for a crappy ending. It's a rather good ride, don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't provide that nearly nonstop action I got on other B&M inverts. Sooperdooperlooper: First Schwarzkopf and I know it's not one of the best. Still, the loop is forceful enough and the rest of the ride is very smooth and I love how it interacts with surrounding rides. Comet: really fun classic woody with some nice pops of air and smoother than I thought it would be. Nice ride! Skyrush: Just two words to describe it: Holy crap!!!! That thing is insane! I mean, I already knew it was going to be fast, intense and thrilling but only after riding it do you get the whole idea. It has mega ejector airtime, hight positive Gs (which made me grey out a bit on one of my rides) and an unbelievable pacing. It's just pure insanity the entire time! However, I do have to admit that the restraints do actually hurt. Not just at the end (like a few intamins I've ridden) but during all of the airtime moments, which is really a shame because that's what this ride is mostly about. The problem is not how hard they are neither how fast the ride is going (so if the reason why they slowed down the lift at the top was this, I think it is a shame) but mostly the shape of the restraints itself as, despite being quite large, the area that actually touches your legs is not so big. They should be more like B&M's ones which adapt really well to the shape of most legs. If they were like that, then this ride would be just perfect. This is the reason why it isn't my favourite ride so far, because, no matter how awesome it might be, I can't can't put a ride that causes quite a lot of pain during the airtime moments on my no 1 spot. Outrageously awesome insane, brutal,... ride, though. All in all I had a great day at Hershey. Loads of top thrills (two of them are now my second (storm runner) and third (skyrush) favourite rides), really nice looking area and surroundings. Fantastic park and what a fantastic day! -

^I have also thought about that. Still, they would have to change the layout anyway on Mean Streak otherwise it wouldn't be anymore exciting, just smoother (which would already be great). So do you mean doing what six flags has been doing but keeping a wooden track (which could be a great idea) or just adding new topper track to the same layout? -

Vekoma Roller Coasters
rcjp replied to kingdakacor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode stinger at dorney a week ago and it wasn't bad at all! Relatively smooth, some nice Gs and a fun ride, overall. I also went on sidewinder at Hershey and it was a bit bumpier, not really rough, it just had some "snaps" in the cobra roll but those restraints were rather good. As far as I remember, the only other big vekoma I've been on was Stunt Fall at Parque Warner and it was pretty good. Decently thrilling, not rough at all and quite fast and tall. So I guess I haven't really got anything bad to say about vekoma (maybe that's because I've never been on an SLC ).
