  1. There was a time when far too many conversations on this forum were people complaining about parks' policies as far as storing items instead of being able to bring them on rides. After it got a bit tiresome, the word filter was put in place to discourage the same complaints and arguments, or at least make them a bit more amusing.
  2. Boysenberry everything. I don't think I've ever wanted anything more. I -have- to get there next year.
  3. DelGrosso's is pretty good! Also Busch Gardens VA, though if you're getting pizza there, you're missing out on a lot of better stuff.
  4. I absolutely agree about preserving classic rides, but Lakemont isn't preserving them at all, it's letting them rust and fall apart. They just happen to let people take their lives into their own hands and ride them during the process. If they were maintaining them like Knoebels, or Kennywood, if there was even any hope of saving the place I'd be there as often as I could supporting it. I mean, I still have a soft spot for Rye Playland, so clearly I'm willing to give a struggling park a chance... Lakemont is beyond saving though and their rides will be too if someone else doesn't take them and start taking care of them.
  5. This is a pretty condescending statement. As everyone knows, my favorite park anywhere, ever is Knoebels. I rank it ahead of the domestic Universal and Disney parks and major corporate thrill parks like Cedar Point. I love it's charm, I love the classic rides, I love the atmosphere, I love everything about it. There are plenty of classic parks that I absolutely love, but I also know a sh*thole when I see it and Lakemont and Conneaut are depressed sh*tholes. There are collapsing and abandoned buildings everywhere, the rides appear to be barely functional, there are empty ride pads everywhere and the parks have no charm or atmosphere to speak of. There are plenty of valid reasons to think that these 2 parks are complete trash. I love classic parks and I absolutely see their value compared to corporate parks but just because a park is old doesn't mean it's good and not liking select classic parks doesn't mean that you're somehow "missing the value". Some parks don't have value, some parks just suck. In my opinion (aside from Leap the Dips) this is one of those parks. If someone bought Leap the Dips and they leveled everything else for condos I assure you that I wouldn't care at all.
  6. Lakemont is by far the worst park I've seen, just so worn out and run down. Most of the rides felt like deathtraps; everything there other than leap the dips felt like it was going to fall apart under me, just made of rust and rot. A friend and I survived a couple of the rides then both agreed it wasn't worth risking our lives on any more. I really can't be too upset that they're being removed. I do hope the rarer ones go somewhere that will refurbish and take care of them, though. Knoebels could probably use a Skydiver, right?
  7. A Roll-o-plane, and an Arrow Suspended coaster type. Soooo happy right now.
  8. Hah. I'm sure it's just my luck, plus the time of year I usually go, bu ten trips to Knoebels since 2007 (always 3 days/2 nights), and all but one of them featured at least half a day of pouring rain. I can't complain; I love amusement parks in the rain, and everything but Flying Turns runs pretty much regardless of weather. Probably won't rain though...maybe if you don't go at the same time as me.
  9. This whole conversation seems a bit silly given that the original source retracted what they said, and said that it was a boat type gondola transportation system being considered.
  10. Knoebels. As usual, the answer is Knoebels.
  11. At worst, harmless; I don't see any way it will hurt operations or anyone's experiences. At best, it could be a nice little distraction during some of the longer queues. I'm all for giving it a try.
  12. Ehhh...not sure about "neat." When they "Six Flagged" it they pretty well destroyed most of the classic Riverside feel. While SFNE is definitely improving in big ways lately, there's not much Riverside left in it anymore. The Thunderbolt is just about all that's left unchanged from back then.
  13. It's been a few years, so my memories but not be 100% accurate, but I vaguely remember going to check it out to kill time the night I got to the hotel, and having abandoned storefronts all over, half the lights burned out or shut off, big areas of the place dim or flickering like a bad horror movie. It's entirely possible it's not as bad as I remember, though. Hmm...nope, online reviews on the place suggest that my memories are pretty much correct.
  14. There's a Holiday Inn Express not too far away that's pretty decent. It's across the road from a mostly abandoned, decaying, and rather creepy mall, without anything else around, so don't expect local extras...but the hotel is actually pretty nice. http://hotelguides.com/hotels/pennsylvania/bloomsburg/157591.html
  15. We're not talking about the campground cabins though; have you seen the full size cottages they have? http://www.knoebels.com/stay/knoebels-cottages Some are iffy, but look at the nicer ones towards the bottom of the page; they seem to have some decent amenities! I'm kinda sold on the cedar one with the fireplace.
  16. Oooh! And I JUST planned my trip there this summer for the last Tuesday in June! Sometimes ya just get lucky ^^
  17. Fair enough, then! My vacations tend to be more the type where I drag people from all over the country that I only see once or twice a year, so the cottages look pretty attractive to me.
  18. These are the things of my nightmares... Well, I mean, it's a house, basically. From the pics it looks like 5 separate double beds in their own bedrooms, it's not like cramming 10 people into a hotel room (or tent). Doesn't sound too terrible to me, but then again, I tent camp at Knoebels at least once a year too...
  19. The quality looks a bit uneven...some are definitely on the "rustic" side, but some of them (the cedar one in particular) look pretty nice to me. Actually, $1000 for a week, for a place that sleeps 10 people...that's not a bad deal, really... I may need to look into this more.
  20. Wow...I forgot how pretty Shipwreck Falls was. I rode it at least a few times, but somehow I remembered it just being a plain structure without much in the line of trees or anything around it; I guess my mind has a hard time assuming much else from Six Flags. Seeing those pictures makes me feel a lot worse about it having been replaced.
  21. Well, this is an unusual feeling. Looking at that report is making me miss SFNE! After a decade spent pretty much wanting nothing to do with the place, my trip there this summer completely turned me around on it. Of course it's not perfect yet, but it's come so far in the right direction, and I had a genuinely great day there. Now I'm really wanting to get back. Kinda nice to get that out of a place I'd all but given up on!
  22. It's the worst ending when you're disappointed for your first time, not knowing what's coming. It's the best ending for watching friends' reactions.
  23. Falcon's Fury was the one that left me shaking. To my credit, as soon as I realized how scared of it I was, I also decided I had to do it; I was -not- going home defeated. I hated it, I was terrified of it, I loved it. It was easily the scariest ride I've ever been on, but it was also one of of my absolute favorites. The adrenaline rush was like nothing else I've ever been on and I can't want to get back on it. My first time on a Windseeker ALMOST counts but I was only scared of it 'til is started. Once Windseeker is in motion, something about it so so graceful...just...not mechanical at all, something more than that...it's hard to be scared of. It didn't feel like a ride, to me, it was just like flying. Falcon's Fury, I'll be scared of next time but will do again. Windseeker, I don't think I can be scared of; it's somehow bigger than that now.
  24. Wave Swinger at Lake Compounce. It's right there, and it's the best of its kind.
  25. It's something like $10 extra to upgrade it to be good for both parks. Definitely worth it!
