  1. Because numbers sell. Hypercoasters aren't that big anymore, comparatively speaking, and tons of parks have 200 foot coasters. If the park wants its name in the record books, and wants to attract the general public, height and speed get attention and are much easier to market than TPR reviews or ACE awards. Those might matter to fans, but to 95% of park guests, all they know and understand is "100 mph is faster than 80 mph." As for me, just personal opinion but I don't feel like there are any coasters anywhere that "leave Behemoth in the dust." Top 5 steel coaster in my book, no matter how much taller and faster others may be now.
  2. Always makes me smile to see good things from KD, especially to see the rides being taken care of. I've always had a soft spot for this park, even in its rougher years, so seeing it's really nice to see it looking good again. As far as the food and wine festivals, there can never be enough parks doing this!
  3. Oh hey, RI-12 is my site, too, every year for quite a few years running now ^^ Great location. Damn. I've spent too much of this thread now, my resistance has crumbled... I thought I could do it. I thought I could manage a summer without a trip to Knoebels, since I'm making a pilgrimage to Canada's Wonderland, Cedar Point, and King's Island...but it's just not going to happen. I can't. Phoenix and Twister are calling, and Impulse is looking great. Guess I need to do a little reworking of my summer budget...
  4. Nope. It's not expensive at all, and it is absolutely fantastic. One of my favorite places to eat in any amusement park. http://www.knoebels.com/images/pdf/alamomenu%202014.pdf
  5. Agreed 100% All the big budgets and Disney Magic in the world can't quite match the simple old fashioned joy that Knoebels is built out of.
  6. Thanks a lot. It's definitely not the day I'd choose to go, but this year it's that or nothing, and I'm willing to put up with crowds for Behemoth, Leviathan, and Vortex. Fast Lane Plus is a certainty, though.
  7. Question for any experts on this park. I've got the chance to squeeze in a day here this summer, but unfortunately as it will have to be worked into an existing trip, the only possible day for it is the 4th of July. Now, I would much prefer not to be at a park in the US on the 4th, but, seeing as how it's out of this country...does anyone know how much that weekend is going to affect the crowds? Is it close enough to the US border that it's going to be packed anyway? More so than usual, I mean...I know a Saturday at CW is less than idea to start with, and I'm quite sure Fastlane is going to be absolutely required to make it an enjoyable day...but, how much of a mess am I looking at getting myself into?
  8. Since Boulder Dash and Phoenix have already been called multiple times, I'm going to have to add in the third of my favorite wooden coasters. Twister @ Knoebels. That ride is, in my opinion, in the absolute perfect spot as far as intensity. Wild, but not painful. It doesn't need to be changed, it can't be improved...just let Knoebels keep it running like it does now for a good long time.
  9. LIkely doable but could be iffy. LC's attendance has been all over the place when I've been there, but on a saturday, if it's a nice day, I'd expect 45 minute waits, minimum, for BD, possibly half hour for Wildcat and Zoomerang. They're actually going to be at their longest at that point in the day since it'll be cooling off and people will be flooding out of the waterpark and getting in their before-we-leave coaster rides. You should be able to get them all in three hours without any trouble, but it might take a little luck to get in three trips around BD in that time.
  10. Sad one way or another. I really enjoyed this ride back in November, one of the better flats I've been on in a while. Not that anecdotal evidence is worth much, but I rode it in the rain and it didn't have any issues then. It was brand new then, only a few days old, so maybe the issues only cropped up later. JUST got a tweet from them as I was typing this; looks like they're looking into a permanent model of the same ride.
  11. That would kinda surprise me; I can't see that as anything like a worst. It might not be -great-...I know a lot of people, myself included, loved the Wolf...but Verbolten is a pretty solid ride that seems to at least get general respect. There are enough cases of good rides being replaced by terrible ones (Hello Stinger) that one being replaced by a decent-if-not-quite-amazing one couldn't really compete for this title. Personally, the one that sticks out for me isn't a coaster at all, but Extraterrorestrial Alien Encounter being replaced by Stitch. Yes, I know the former wasn't really a "Dinsey" ride, and yeah, Stich is kinda cute...but Alien encounter was just awesome. At least, so my teenage self remembers. -edit- Oh, better answer! I never rode King Arthur's Challenge but definitely can go with Europe in the Air replacing Corkscrew Hill. Still miss that one.
  12. The idea of being restrained in water makes me more than a little nervous...but just the same, this looks pretty amazing, and I'd have to try it, terrifying or not!
  13. Funspot Orlando Saturday. Universal Sunday. Disney World Monday-Friday. IoA the next Saturday. Gonna be a good week.
  14. The site doesn't have a menu for the Orlando location yet, but assuming it's the same as the others, you can take a look at the menu here. https://www.thecowfish.com/locations/?l=1&c=1 Not cheap, but not really that bad either, if the food's as good as it looks.
  15. Oh, wow, that looks amazing...and I'll be at Universal this weekend! I know where I'm eating! Thanks for the report and pics!
  16. Rocky Point Park. That was my childhood, and why I love amusement parks so much today. Now it's just a broken asphalt lot, thanks to the scum that embezzled away all the park's money until it closed.
  17. Given that Dorney generally seems to run their flats fairly well, Flyers there might be a lot of fun. Not a bad addition!
  18. Not much to work with in 1982! Only one that I've even been on. 1 - Grizzly @ King's Dominion. One I'm more fond of than most seem to be, at least. Beyond that...lots of family coasters and portables, or coasters on the other side of the world!
  19. Kennywood!? I mean, you're certainly allowed your own opinion, but that is not a park I ever expected to see in this thread...
  20. Asked on Twitter and the park said the ride could be open as soon as tomorrow! -Edit- Video just added by the park!
  21. All the comments on Dorney, with no love for Talon? I've always thought that coaster puts the park on the map on its own. It might be one of the smaller inverts, but I'll take it over a lot of the bigger, newer ones any day. Intense from start to finish in a way that most of them just aren't designed to be anymore. Anyway, Six Flags New England feels this way to me, since I grew up with it when it was Riverside, and it just seemed to have so much more character there. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but...
  22. Oooh, awesome for them! Wonder if there's any chance it will be up and running before I'm there in a couple weeks? Seems a lot to hope for, but I don't know how long it would take them to get a flat like that put together and tested.
  23. I'm surprised to hear so much hate for Flight Deck at CW. I didn't think it was all that bad at all for an SLC when I got on it a couple years back; better than Mind Eraser at SFNE, even. I must have gotten a really unusually good ride on it. On the other hand, I willingly re-ride Volares, and I loved Lake Compounce's Wildcat even a few years back, so...maybe there's just something wrong with me.
  24. Boulder Dash, after dark. Even Intimidator 305's g-forces can't come close to the insane out of control sensation of speed on BD.
