Yep, Montezooma's Revenge and Greezed Lightning are the same kind of ride. Montezooma's Revenge is the only U.S. Schwarzkopf shuttle still in its original location. I rode it a month ago and it was running just fine. I couldn't tell you exactly how long lines will be. And Knott's doesn't have any kind of "line cutting" program (like FastPass), so there...you wait. Eric

I've driven and/or ridden in Diana's car all over town today, but have yet to even get into mine! But indeed that will change tomorrow morning when I fire up mine to go to work. It's a new day, you see, and the start of a beautiful week. Eric

Need "first coaster" suggestion for paranoid noob
ebl replied to DCody's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
On the other hand, contrary to what I said earlier, sometimes you need to give them a "baptism of fire" to assure them that everything's cool. A few years back, my daughter---though she liked coasters---was terrified of Goliath at SFMM because of the tall drop. (In fact, Diana even rode X before she rode Goliath and called me after the ride to tell me!) When they went to the park and got in line for Goliath, she'd wait with them, then just walk through the train and wait at the exit. One time, as Diana passed through the train, a friend sat her down and stapled her---she was going, whether she liked it or not. Today, Goliath is one of her favorites, and she does not regret that fateful day she first rode. Eric -
During July, the park will be crowded no matter which day you go, but better a Tuesday than a Saturday. Eric

No, never even heard of them. Have you had your title changed here on TPR since you joined?

I grew up on the old Russian ice slides, but all those were torn down to make way for Wal-Marts. Besides, I got splinters. But a guy who hasn't ridden a coaster needs to start off slow. Something like X2 will swear him off of the darned things forever. Some of the suggestions here are good: Silver Bullet, Ninja...heck, even Gold Rusher. Jaguar! is a good one, too. Anything at Disneyland is OK. He'll work his way up over time. You'll see. Eric -
Since Thomas the Tank Engine takes place on the Island of Sodor, I think some sort of boat ride would have helped to round out the area. Had time and budget allowed, it would have been nice to place the entire town on an island with a boat ride surrounding it. But we'll see what happens in the years to come. Eric

I didn't go into detail in my TR a couple of pages back, but while I do think that Thomas Town is very nicely done, there isn't much to keep anyone there very long. A train ride, a coaster ride that won't allow you to ride if you're over 54", and a gift shop isn't enough. Hopefully (and I'm sure it will happen), more is planned for the area. Eric

"...in a few years we should be expecting some new wood" (pgathriller) You guys adding some lanes to the bowling alley? Eric -
Today when I was riding Scream! at SFMM, I forgot to look down and see the brakes grab the bottom of the train. I could see it from my seat, but I just forgot. Eric

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Goliath at SFMM, about 8:30 tonight. Eric -
TPR staff may move this if they choose to do so. I also posted this on Westcoaster, so you might have read it there... The girls went out shopping, so I had the day to meself. All of my yard work was caught up, the bills were mailed, and I had a free day. So out to SFMM I went. Strangely, it wasn't THAT crowded. I took a ride on Revolution and rode in the brand new train (with the almost-1976 paint scheme---which looks nice!). And, it was actually fairly smooth. Rode in the front, and not a head bump was had. Next was Tatsu. I used a Flash Pass, so I had to wait at the Flash Pass entrance. No problem, but...some asshat was complaining about the guy letting Flash Pass people in and what he should do is let five FP users in, then five stand bys, then five FPs... After he went up the stairs, I told the SF employee, "Don'tcha just love people like that?" Then when I got up to the platform level, these girls were telling that guy what I'd said, but stopped short when they noticed me standing behind them. I moved toward the front of the train and I heard Mr. Asshat say something like "There goes Mr. Fast Pass..." After Tatsu, I took a ride on Ninja. The Sky Tower was closed today, but I've been up there so many times this year that I didn't feel like I was missing anything. I walked down and rode Gold Rusher, then over to Riddler and rode via Flash Pass in Row 2. I wanted to ride Batman, but its line was pretty long, so I headed over to Thomas Town to check it out. Only about ten people were waiting to ride the train, so I pretty much walked right on. Not much to the ride, but I can see how families with small kids would enjoy it. I can't ride the Percy coaster (old Goliath Jr.), so I just headed out. Being about dinner time, I went up to Katy's Kettle because a 1/3-lb. sirloin burger just sounded good. Inside, I discovered that you can get it with bacon, so guess what I got? Good eatin behind me, I walked back down to the far side of the park and just kept walking. When I got to Batman, I decided to use a Flash Pass. I had never used one there before, so the line for it was new to me. It was up a back stairway where you could see a whole bunch of behind the scenes stuff. I took a front seat ride on the new train (Train #2 in case you're wondering). Quite smooth, and no head bumping. Finally, I rode Scream! with a Flash Pass because its line was unusually long. They were running all three trains, but stacking. For a change, I rode toward the back and got a smooth ride. I was getting tired, so I ended the night with back seat ride on Goliath. I used my last Flash Pass, and was upstairs in a few minutes. Smooth as always. Before leaving, I walked up to the bridge to see how long X2's line was, and it was too long for my liking. I was done and headed for home. The End. Eric

^ I've talked to people in call centers right here in the U.S. who don't know what they're doing. Sometimes I think they dig up some of them from Dumbass, Iowa or somewhere. "Can I ax you a question?" "Ax" me a question? And it seems like they're always selling some kind of insurance. But I hear you. I'm tired of having to speak to someone who either can't understand what I'm saying, or I can't understand what they're saying. Eric

It looks like Galaxi-style track. I wonder if they took stock track sections and just put 'em together or what? Surely someone has ridden this thing. It does look like it'd be a blast to ride. Eric -

PTR Wonderland in Amarillo, TX 6/16/08
ebl replied to Sue's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I went to Wonderland in May 2005. Unfortunately, the Tornado wasn't open yet for the season (maintenance, one guy said). It is nice that the former Mayan Mindbender from SFAW is there (and running, I'm guessing). When I was there, my first thought was "Ghetto!" But, strangely, I wouldn't mind going back sometime. When you take pi away from an elephant, y = stampede. Could a pitcher in the new Yankee Stadium still be called a southpaw? -
Great report, Jahan! Thomas Town looks really nice. Methinks there needs to be more there to do to keep people there longer. A "blue" gift shop ain't gonna do it. I like the Revolution train. However, some of the little touches aren't true to the 1976 color scheme. The stars on the rear bumpers, for instance, and the paint detail on the sides of the cars below the door openings. Back then, it was just black with some rainbow tape dots. I do like the fact that they gave the front of the cars the old lettering style, though. And it does look funny to see trains with those colors with the tall headrests! Eric

"I grew up at the wrong damn time...I remember when I was like 9 or 10 my mom would fill her car up for $10...it takes me like $35." (Josh Linn) I always laugh when people say things like that because they forget that people earned less back then. I'm not justifying today's high prices, but you have to remember that most of the time, things are relevant. Eric
