Venice, Italy to get a theme park?!
australianalex replied to neovortex2k's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wait am I the only one who likes Powersurges as well as Air Races? I think some of Zamperla's flats are pretty cool. -
I'm so happy with how this turned out, and the grand opening ceremony looks like it was amazing! No Australian park has ever had a grand opening like that, nor have they had marketing for the ride as good as that. I think the manager of Adventure World should be commended for putting the Gold Coast theme parks to shame.

I remember hearing Saw doing an empty run once when I was at Thorpe Park after it broke down and it was completely silent as well. I think it's a new Eurofighter thing since Speed No Limits has a very loud roar to it. Wether it was planned to have this effect or not, I think the silentness is eerie - it means that the only sound heard while the ride is running will be the screams of the riders. Enhances the ghostly theme much more than a loud roar would IMO.

Best Coaster Layouts
australianalex replied to Randomman295's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought I'd post some awesome layouts of coasters I've actually been on - layouts that I know not only look good but deliver an awesome ride. Blue Fire's layout is almost perfect. The only fault for me is it loses its pacing a little while cresting it's airtimeless hill that threads the vertical loop, but it makes up for it with it's awesome inline twist finale. It also looks stunning. Black Mamba has to be one of the most underrated B&Ms on the planet. It kept up an extremely fast pace with constant positive G's and tons of directional changes. I actually personally think it's pacing is better than that on Nemesis, as while Nemesis has some "dead spots" (turn after the vertical loop, final helix into brakes) Black Mamba never let up until the end. -
Most Intense B&M!
australianalex replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Katun crushed my face and caused the most prolonged greyout I've ever experienced on a coaster - from the peak of the vertical loop to the top of the Zero G Roll I was seeing spots. I also found Black Mamba quite intense, possibly on the same level Nemesis in my opinion. Not sure what those people who call it forceless are smoking, because it has some serious positive G's that you'd have to be comatose to not feel. -
Best Dark Roller Coaster?
australianalex replied to drewelap's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've only been on 4 indoor coasters: Revenge of the Mummy (USS) Eurosat Temple of the Nighthawk X:/ No Way Out The clear winner is obviously Mummy - awesome, awesome coaster. Eurosat is a lot of fun too, one of the biggest surprises from my Europa Park trip. Nighthawk and No Way Out were okay at best. -
What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
australianalex replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Expedition GeForce 2. iSpeed 3. Blue Fire 4. Revenge of the Mummy (USS) 5. Nemesis 6. Black Mamba 7. Superman Escape 8. Wodan Timburcoaster 9. Silver Star 10. Saw the Ride Mixed bag there. -
I'm getting stupidly excited over this, especially considering Perth is over 2000 miles from where I live and I probably won't end up visiting until mid next year at the earliest. Oh well. Trains look great. Can't help but think they'd look a whole lot better with lapbars though - but we can't have it all!

What is your favorite launch coaster?
australianalex replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
iSpeed would have to be the best for me now, but Blue Fire is definitely up there too. While iSpeed was more forceful, Blue Fire was just ridiculously fun. And very smooth. -
Lift hill finished! The overbank following the immelman seems similar to Saw's, but much tighter. This probably supports the theory of a modified Saw layout. However Adventureworld are now saying the ride will have 4 inversions, so either the overbank will now be counted as a cutback type element or there is an extra inversion that we don't know about. Also judging by the position of the MCBR and final brake run, it seems perhaps there will be a left hand turning drop off the MCBR into a diveloop (assuming it sticks with the Saw layout) before rising to the left into the final brake run.

Funnily enough I, along with other Australian enthusiasts, have very mixed feelings about the ride. It'd be expensive, and the cost could go towards multiple smaller spinning flatrides, something Movieworld needs. Also Movieworld is a very small park and something that tall would totally dominate it and really look quite ridiculous, especially next to Superman Escape. The park still has a shred of atmosphere left and I'd really prefer it retained that by not adding a ridiculously huge tower ride. Now I'd be all for a standard 200ft star flyer, that'd be fantastic - take up the same amount of room while fitting in with the park - but I'm really not sure about this.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
australianalex replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I have really mixed feelings about this. While it'd be a pretty cool, unique ride it'd basically be a total waste of money, as its bound to be expensive. The money could go towards a much needed quality addition, such as a wooden coaster or even something as simple as a classic flatride. Also, it's ridiculously large and in a park as small as Movieworld it'd be an eyesore and dominate the skyline of the park, if not the whole of Queensland. -
The Golden Ticket Awards are a popularity contest, plain and simple. The fact that Millennium Force is #1 and Nitro is #4 makes this obvious. I have to say though, I am happy to finally see I305 in the top 10, even if it's still below the B&M Intimidator. It's also good to see GeForce climbing the poll. Though I'll still be sticking to the Mitch Hawker poll as a much, much more accurate indication of quality.

Hate to break it to you guys but it's already been shown that it'll have OTSR's Can't believe how quick construction is going! Looks like it'll differ from Saw after all, though it still has the immelman and MCBR. Maybe it'll have most of the same elements, just with different shaping to fit the area? Definitely a custom layout though.

Most Shocking Ride Announcements?
australianalex replied to dropzonefan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The rumors for Medusa, Goliath and Zumanjaro had been around for a while, so none of the announcements actually shocked me. Though the layout for Goliath was a bit of a surprise. -

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
australianalex replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
God I hate when the GP try to prove their manhood by claiming a certain ride "isn't scary, it's relaxing". Look, unless a coaster is fitted out with a La-Z Boy with an electric foot massager I highly doubt it classifies as relaxing, especially if it's a Vekoma. -

Strangest layouts

Just found this thing on RCDB. All I can say is WTF? I especially love the horrifically inaccurate and poorly spelt sign Flying Bus - Funcity, India -
GCI Coasters

What about the bizarre long bits of wood found on Gold Striker? I think Thunderhead has some weird wooden blocks on the track too this year, but for what purpose?
