Fuji-Q Highlands Discussion Thread
haux replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Actually, it looks like it has about the same amount of supports as X does. See here on X. The raven turn has four supports attached to it, just like the Japanese one does. The different shape of the supports might be because S&S improved on the design. Look at the amount of supports on this section of X (the drop after the turnaround). The same amount of supports are present on the new one, too. -
Bad Experience/GOOD NEWS
haux replied to hardtosay1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ripsaw Falls is closed for its yearly rehab in Februrary/March. Screamscape said the ride is being modified because of the extreme forces in the first drop. My guess is if it's true, they're going to make the hill after the drop longer or bigger so there's less or no airtime. Screamscape also said the logs might get restraints. Boo if that's true! -

Sure, if you take out the vertical drop, first raven turn, full-full and second raven turn. -
Official Drachen Fire Thread [Merged]
haux replied to ShannonSomerville's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Calm down, dude. You're not really making sense now. Drachen Fire was made by Arrow. Kumba was made by B&M. Arrow wouldn't have access to B&M's plans. Easy as that. Edit: Fine. B&M designed and ghost built Drachen Fire. Whatever. I'm not going to argue what I know is fact. The B&M rumor has been floating around forever. I've seen a scan of a letter from B&M saying they had no hand in Drachen Fire, so I rest on what I saw. I'll let you keep going, but I'm done. It's not really that big a deal. I was just trying to clear up a misconception, that's all. -

Thanks, dude! The thread's here, but it's archived and the images have long since been taken off the guy's site. Go ahead and contact Dave of Fright Time. He's got the proof. And about Arrow getting the idea from a Kumba concept drawing, that may be, but how would they get their hands on it years before Kumba was built? Remember, coasters aren't planned and designed in three weeks. -

No, that's just a rumor. B&M literally had nothing to do with Drachen Fire. Busch contacted Arrow to make Drachen Fire. They didn't talk to B&M about it. Someone on a site sent a letter to B&M a couple of years ago asking about it, and they confirmed the fact that they had nothing to do with it. They were not contacted, nor were they an influence for Drachen Fire. -

What the heck is Dare Devil Dive? I bet this is Mr. Hyde's Nasty fall. I thought it was sold. Demon Drop at Cedar Point wasn't sold, so it's probably still there. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

I doubt that. I don't see people lining up for hours to ride an SLC over the B&M. -

No one should ever complain that Boomerang is down. -
Castles and Coasters
haux replied to coaster_type_of_person's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Buy a tripod. The reason they're blurry is because your shutter stays open longer to compensate for the lower level of light. A tripod will fix the problem because your camera won't move. Ouch. Headache? -

Ouch. Rapidshare. Maybe you should stick to trip reports without photos. These aren't that good. How was the trip? No lines is good. How many times did you ride Desert Storm before you couldn't take it? -

You can't heartline a 4D. That's not heartlining in the full-full. It's just turning. -

According to Google, that's 262 feet, more than 60 feet taller than X. I guess that rules out the possibility of it being entirely a clone. I think seeing this layout rules it entirely being a clone! Look at it. The second (outside) raven turn will be on the other side of the lift hill. And it has a full-full! I'm so jealous. I wonder what will happen between the turnaround and second raven turn. Half-half? Hill with a flip? Brake run? Excellent shots, man. Thanks for this. -

Now it's starting to look like an X clone. -
Yep. Well, I used to get it. When I was a coaster novice, I used to have trouble sleeping because I always thought I was going over a hill. Now I don't get that anymore. I kind of miss it.

Cedar Point Pics part 1: The Intamin's

Wow. Those Dragster pictures are OLD! What kind of camera did you use? Those pictures seem like they're from a film camera. -
It's good to see a little preview of what I'll have to visit when I spend the summer in Denver. Elitch Gardens looks like a fun place for a visit or two. Or a hundred because I have a season pass. Cyclone at Lakeside looks great. Everything is so retro. The station is art deco, there's a hand brake (right?), the trains are awesome and so on. How exciting. That water park looks cool, too. I didn't know about that one. Also: Thank you! I am a tower enthusiast! (Seriously, got any pictures of Denver's skyline?)

I collect sugar packets because I'm insane. I have one from T.G.I.Friday's on the Beach from Cedar Point, another from Cedar Point and one from Knott's Berry Farm. It's not a big collection yet, but it'll grow. As will my insanity.

Maybe the guy who died couldn't swim. The water was also near freezing, so his muscles could have locked up. The person who survived probably swam to shore or climbed on something, while the guy who died may not have been able to get help from the guy who made it.

The shape on that zero-G roll seems off. Not exactly heartlined, if you catch my drift.

That's Jed Smock! Ahhh! He came to my campus for a week. He's insane. Some of the preachers are crazy, but this guy really takes the cake. Scott, good TR.
