Six Flags Magic Mountain Announces "X2"
AllenA07 replied to Loco's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I was going to say that those do look like a farily substantial change. Now of course nobody will really know if they make the ride better until it's had a chance to open and run for a while... I'm curious how much these new trains weigh in comparison to the old ones. -
It's a picture of the old Soapbox Racers... Basically I just took one stright from the online archive that you can get through the site, so it shows an complete lack of effort on my part.

As far as this ride not being the biggest or fastest, it might still end up being fun. People used to love the Soapbox racers, and those were (these stats are off the top of my head, so they might be a little off) only 1750 feet long, had a max speed of 30 miles per hour, and I can't believe that they had a drop of more then 40 feet. The ride wasn't the most thrilling, but it was fun none-the-less. This coaster could very possibly be the same situation, not the most thrilling, but offering a fun ride. Over at SFMM my favorite ride has always been Ninja. It holds no records, isn't even that thrilling, but it's always just been such a fun ride in my opinion. Hopefully this ride will provide some fun.

Ninja has a bunch of "part donors" now with the XLR8 trains sitting in the back of the park. I was also under the impression Viper used to have four trains, I guess I was mistaken, but I do recall a fourth train as well. -
Help with roller coaster report/speech

^That would indeed be me. -
They painted parts of Viper a few years ago right before X opened. I didn't think the ride looked that bad, and again it's only been a few years since it last got paint. Also am I the only one who actually enjoys that whole industrial, unpainted, look of Superman. Sure it might be ugly, but I've grown used to, and dare I say fond, of the colorless tower.

Help with roller coaster report/speech

Chris, look over to Ultimate Rollercoaster, they had a great history of amusement parks on there. Not the best source in the world, but I don't think you're going to find a whole lot better then that... BTW: Glad to see that "Bench: The Ride" is still being kept alive after all these years! -
Not sure how many of you are interested in this kind of stuff, but the Frontier hotel in Las Vegas was imploded last night. Overall pretty decent show (though I wish they had waited until Jan 1st, when I'd be there to watch) with plenty of fireworks. I'm curious to see if anybody here has an interest in hotel construction (or in this case distruction). I've always had an interest in how hotels are built, and more actually more interestingly how they're taken down. And just for fun, has anybody here ever gotten to experience watching one of these buildings come down in person? Finally if you're curious about the carnage after the implosion check out this site: http://www.leavinglv.net for some good pictures of the process.

I'm going to join the crowd that says wait to ride it. I highly doubt this is going to be the most thrilling coaster in history, however I believe that it is possble that ride might actually be fun. Thinking back many years ago, Knotts had the Soapbox racers. If I recall the ride had a small drop, a top speed under 35 (check RCDB for actual stats) and was less then 2,000 feet long. Not exactly a thrilling ride by any means, however it still remains as one of the most missed attractions from the park! Give this ride a chance, it may end up actually being a fun coaster.

What is your favorite place to vacation?
AllenA07 replied to piggy4891's topic in Random, Random, Random
I love to make the occasional trip out to Vegas. I've always loved going to that city, and now that I'm old enough it is much more fun then it was when I was a kid. -
JZ's Ongoing Kings Island Update Thread!

I think a B&M Hyper would fit very well in KI. As others have said its been much too long since the park last got a major steel coaster. -
TOP 5 B&M INVERTED COASTERS
AllenA07 replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Silver Bullet 2. Top Gun (PGA) 3. B: TR (I've been on a few of these, so this is not a specifc one, just the clone in general). Sadly those are the only B&M inverted coasters I'd had a chance to try. -

I'm not sure where that picture was taken, but there are several areas of X where you can get great shots of the ride, without breaking rules. Again not saying that he did or didn't just saying it's possible... I did actually have a strange question however. All of these pictures of X that were possibly taken in places where guests aren't allowed got me thinking. I've got a bunch of pictures of X from some very interesting angles, all around the coaster (as in those forbidden places where people aren't allowed). During the coasters media day a group of about 10 of us (I do tend to remember that there may have been people from this site who were there) were taken on a tour of the coaster, and had the chance to get some very cool pictures all around the ride. If you guys are interested I could try to dig them up (they're buried somewhere on a CD with the rest of the stuff from my site) and post a few. -
^ I'll echo that. One of the things I've come to hate about law school is the number of people who are going just because there is money in the career, and no other reason. Yes the money is nice, and it is necessary considering the investment (I'm going to a cheap school and it'll cost me upwards of $100,000 in the end) that needs to be made, however to base your entire life on how much money you're going to make is not going to make you a very happy person.

Interesting... So is this just basically, "Lets slap the paint on and see what looks good" method? -
What happened to Thanksgiving?
AllenA07 replied to jackskellington101's topic in Random, Random, Random
Personally I enjoy Thanksgiving more than Christmas... Sadly this year I have finals a week after Thanksgiving, so it still remains to be seen what I'm going to be doing that day. -
A few years ago with food I went on the In and Out 4x4 diet. Due to stress and time from school, I ended up cutting food out of my diet. When I was finally done at school for the day (often late at night) I'd go by In and Out, but a 4x4, fries, and a soda, and eat it. I ended up actually losing about 30 pounds on this diet. However to be fair, by the time I put an end to it, I was starting to feel terrible all the time.

^ I like that idea the best. I think this is a good concept, but $10 a rental is going to keep many people from praticipating. However from the parks prespective, these are going to be devices that get lost and damaged rather often. A deposit therefore would be a good way to assure that you're not suffering losses, while at the same time, throw in a couple dollar fee for using the system in order to profit. -
What do you want to do when you grow up?
AllenA07 replied to GAcoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
Well I'm in law school so lawyer is what I sure hope I'm headed towards in at least some capacity. If things really work out my hope is to get into Constitutional Law, and if I get to get even more specific I'd love to work primarily with the first amendment. Someday down the road my real dream job would be to get myself appointed as a Federal Judge (ah what the heck, Supreme Court Justice would be nice) however that is still a long time off. P.S. My real dream is to be a starting pitcher for the Dodgers. However seeing as how I've got the coordination of a quadriplegic poodle (funny image isn't it!) I don't think that'll be happening soon. -
Getting stuck on a ride!
AllenA07 replied to disneygurlz2s's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been stuck a couple of times over the years... I got stuck for about 10 minutes on Goliath on its opening day... Not sure how many of you remember the day Goliath opened, but it rained a lot that day. Overall a very wet experience. I have also been stuck before for a couple of minutes on the lift of Riddlers Revenge. I got stuck once on the life hill of Boomerang at KBF. I got stuck near the top of the lift hill for Desperado for about 5 minutes. I was stuck for a few minutes in Space Mountain (not long enough though for the lights to come on). Finally the longest I ever was stuck was for about an hour on Ninja. We got stuck about 1/3rd of the way up the lift. Got going again, and got stuck near the top of the life. Both times for about 30 minutes each. I did forget I got stuck once for about 10 minutes on Orient Express. The bigger problem is I was working that day and honestly should not have been on the ride, so I was a little worried while I was on there that I would be noticed. Generally I got a ride back there from various different people, so I got lazy. After getting stuck I never took it up there again. -
Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Three Days Grace, and all the other bands that sound exactly like those ones.
