  1. It still looks (though I fully admit I could be wrong, while they show that there is work, the pictures are limited) as though they are really just getting started with the preliminary work. Makes me wonder if there is going to be a Memorial day (or even mid summer) opening. I'm not really up with the process for building a wooden coaster as much as I am a steel coaster, but I would be willing to wager a guess that wood takes longer to build in general.
  2. The Federation of Light... Maybe they'll crash into the Large Hadron Collider upon entry, thus allowing one of those man made black hole to escape, which in 4 years (2012) will become big enough to destroy the Earth... Yes things are coming together nicely.
  3. I was happy to see the prices down to $3.38 today when I drove by the gas station on my way to school. That's good considering I filled up last week at $3.65
  4. This is really good advice! I've posted in here before that if I could go back and talk to myself 10 years ago, I would tell myself not to worry so much about getting a girlfriend. If you like the girl and want to ask her out, great do it and have fun. If you want to just be friends, that works great as well. I just remember there being wayyy too much stress when it came to dating when I was a teenager.
  5. That does look like the indiscriminate dirt pushing that I was hoping for, glad to see that I was wrong. Thanks for the pictures.
  6. I've driven by that park so many times on the freeway and generally the coaster isn't running. I will admit however the few times I've seen it open I've thought about pulling off and grabbing the credit. Nice trip report!
  7. I'm curious to see how the $5 charge changes things at Fright Fest. I could see it being a little bit more of a problem for families who don't want to spend $20 for every maze after spending a bunch of money just going to the park for the day. On the other hand, the locals with Season Passes and such, as well as the people coming just for the haunted houses likely won't have as much issue dropping the $5 for the houses. As far as the new coaster goes, I simply was curious if anybody has noticed anything going on. As I said above I'm not expecting a whole lot more then dirt being pushed around right now and maybe some spray paint. As a final question and just something I've been wondering with Fright Fest coming up, are the Psyclone trains being stored full time on the Colossus transfer track now, I'm sure the park still runs Colossus backwards using those trains, just not sure where the park keeps them the other 11 months of the year.
  8. Any logical reason for this or is it just a feeling?
  9. Being on the Six Flags site you've got to assume that is going to be the case. I can't see how that is going to go over well, but if the mazes are good enough people will be willing to pay.
  10. Being on the offical site you've got to assume that is going to be the case. I can't see how that is going to go over well, but if the mazes are good enough people will b e willing to pay.
  11. Last week Natalie talked herself out of a vote by using terror tactics by threating revenge with mayo (I am curious what that's about but not going to ask questions) against Tyler. So I think this week I'm going to step up and place my vote to kill off Natalie.
  12. So some memories of a little kid here (I was 8 when this story takes place), however I can tell you that after the Northridge earthquake we were thrilled to go eat out. Following the quake we didn't have power for a while (I believe where we were it was only 48 hours, but some parts of LA were down for weeks) and most of the food at my grandparents house (our place was destroyed) went bad during these days. So basically for about a week we ate nothing but peanut butter and jelly. It was a wonderful treat when one of the local restaurants opened again, because it meant that we got a real meal for a night. I'm sure that there are people right now in Galveston who would love to go get dinner out, yes there house will still be gone when they finish eating, however it is at least a small part of normalcy that they'll have back in their lives.
  13. With school and not having much money I can have some pretty long breaks. I endured a nearly 2 year gap between coasters recently. Worst yet the final coaster I went on before the two years was a Boomerang. As of right now it's been about 6 months since my last coaster.
  14. I went to Dippin Dots' last night and was told that the Boardwalk will be open again by November. In all reality however I think it will be a very long time before we see the boardwalk open again. Though I only know what I've been seeing on the news, Galveston was devastated, and basic infrastructure is far from being reestablished. I do fully believe that the Boardwalk will be rebuilt, not bigger or badder, but roughly the same as it was before. However I don't think we're going to see it operating again until next summer at the earliest. Galveston has a lot of work to do to get the basic needs of life back again, they have to rebuild a lot of their infrastructure, and my hunch tells me that Kemah is not priority #1 for the city at this time. I expect that next summer we will see the boardwalk reopen, but I'd be surprised if we see anything much before that.
  15. This whole thing is just dissapointing. I really love the community feeling that TPR has (so much more then other places I post), and things like this really just bring it down.
  16. Smart move by Disney. When I told my fiancee (who is not a coaster nut) about this she responded that if we are in CA for either of our birthdays we should go to Disneyland. People don't generally go to parks alone, so this should mean some increased business for Disney next year.
  17. I wouldn't expect track yet, I'm just saying that some type of ground work is to be expected by this point. I hope I'm wrong, however I'm still skeptical. As far as location I'm still strongly convinced that the area by where Pysclone was is not a logical place for the coaster, I believe that an entrance somewhere the Backlot makes more sense. However I've got no experience running a park whatsoever, so what do I know! As far as a steel structure with a wooden track, I think that is a distinct possibility, as it would somewhat fit the given theme. However even then I would have expected some spray paint markings by now. We'll all know soon enough what's going on at the park, and I'm sure that if a rock somewhere in the park moves, somebody on here will catch it.
  18. Best of luck! I'm still two years away from getting a "real job" but have been doing everything in my power to prepare and look like a good person for the position.
  19. Only a few hours left, I think Wes is safe for this week.
  20. ^ Good to hear... If you guys start having some problems with time dilation, you might want to get out of there.
  21. Again I wouldn't be waiting for that announcement to be made any time soon. I have followed a lot of coasters at the park and they always make a mid-November/mid-December announcement . I have no reason to think this is going to be any different. What I was saying as far as there actually being a ride is that generally there would be at least some major ground work going on by this point. It takes a very long time for the park to push around dirt and get the site ready generally. Even if the ride is going to be built on a parking lot or concrete I'd still expect some spray paint markings. I still hope there is a coaster coming but with the state of the economy I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Six Flags 2009 projects have been pushed back to 2010.
  22. ^I had the same thought a few days ago. I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that anything is going on, would have expected to see at least some markings on the ground by this point. However that is to suggest that 1) People have been looking; and 2) whatever markings that there might be are in a place accessible to the general public. I wouldn't expect much of an announcement until November/December, however I'd keep my eyes open for some sort of evidence to begin appearing around the park. This is TPR, we notice if the temperature gauge is .3 degrees off, I'm sure when it's there we'll notice construction.
  23. These storms can be huge, and can make it across the entire country. A few days before Ike, west Texas got slammed by the remainder of a Pacific tropical storm. It didn't really make any news because Ike was 2 days away from hitting, however we got over 10 inches of rain in 24 hours, it was enough to cause flooding and basically shut down the area where I live. I don't think many people can debate that west Texas is near the Pacific Ocean, it just goes to show how large these storms can be and how far they can make it.
  24. A few days ago I'm driving home at night on a three lane freeway. There are very few cars on the road, so it is basically wide open. A guy comes right up and hangs out maybe 8 inches from my rear bumper. Now I'm in the slow lane (doing 5 over the limit for the record). There is nobody in either of the other lanes, so passing me would have been easy. We passed an exit so he was wanting to get off. He just felt it necessary to draft behind me.
