I got to sit next to Fred Durst (lead singer of Limp Bizket) during the media day for Deja Vu at SFMM. I was not going to sit by him initially however as I was boarding the ride they decided they were going to go live for news in Bakersfield and wanted to get us loaded on and dispatched quickly. So basically they told us to quickly grab seats and he ended next to me. I said "how's it going" he said "good." When I was working at the park there was an event where I got to meet a ton of people from Christian rock bands. To be honest I can't tell you who any of them are. At another event I worked at SFMM I spent a good deal of time talking to Miss America 2003 I believe. She was getting ready to take the LSAT, so the two of us discussed law schools for about 10-15 minutes. Good times

That looks like it was a great trip, amazing look up there. I had given some thought about doing an Alaskan cruise for the honeymoon but decided on the Caribbean instead. I still want to do the Alaskan trip sometime though!

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
AllenA07 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I can't wait until I can get myself to SFMM (I keep missing it on my CA trips) to ride this thing when it opens. Just from the pictures I really don't think this is going to be the most intense coaster in the park by any means, however it looks like it is going to be a fun ride. Nothing wrong with that either, Ninja a decently tame and has always been one of my personal favorites. Thanks to everybody who has posted reports! -
Six Flags May Not Survive 2009...

^Again I don't see anyway Cedar Fair is going to be a player in buying out Six Flags. With them talking about shedding some of their parks, one can assume that not all is well with them either. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

Some fun questions I got asked while working on shows at Magic Mountain... Can birds (I ran a bird show for the park) fly in the rain? Are those real birds (as opposed to robotic ones)? One of my personal favorites, a man once comes up to me in Carrot Club as I'm running the bird show and asks if he can have a coke and rum, and something for his wife that I can't recall. I look at him and point out that this is a sound booth, I don't serve drinks. Now I thought this guy was joking, but in all honesty he was mad! He stormed away complaining about "what kind of club doesn't serve drinks... I mean he has a point, but he was in Bugs Bunny world, in a club made up of giant carrots and was surprised I wouldn't serve him a drink. For the parrot show we had a recorded speil on a CD that I would play to go along with the show. I can't begin to tell you how many times people asked if it was really me doing the talking... Despite the fact that you could actually hear when I turned the CD on because of a low level hiss. I think people really struggle with reading signs and maps. If you're asking where Viper is and you're standing near Riddlers ok, I understand that. If you ask me where Goliath was and we're standing in front of Food ETC, I just never could understand. Did you miss the giant sign 25 feet away from you? Really? Finally one of my favorite moments from working there. I'm running a Halloween Show up on Samurai Summit. I'm backstage helping out and when I come back outside I think I see some movement in the bushes. My sound system for this show was set up right behind the stone wall that borders most of Samurai Summit. So I quickly jump over the wall and see 2 kids, likely 14-15 years old, unhooking the sound system (they were held up if I recall because they didn't understand the concept of twist and lock connectors). I was absolutely stunned at this one. The sound system is going to be far too heavy to lift up and just carry out of the park. It was on wheels, but wouldn't you think that just maybe somebody is going to notice you walking out of the park with a sound system? After this incident I got the job of sitting outside watching the sound system to make sure nobody tried to steal it. Personally I say go ahead and try to steal the thing. It's not like you're going to get very far before somebody notices the large sound system with Magic Mountain on the side of it rolling through the park. -
It is posted in your profile and there are email alerts to topics, so that is true. However as far as being posted in your profile, I've got over 800 posts on here (which is very few compared to some) so it's not very efficient for me to dig back through and see if it is in there. As far as the email feature, I don't have it telling when people post in topics here. I post in enough topics that my inbox would be a mess if I chose to receive alerts for every response in every thread I post in. If I am missing something obvious and there is already an easy way to check, please let me know.

Not sure if this would be the place to post this, but it seemed like the most logical. Today I went to post in the Dumbest things ever said by the GP thread. While getting ready to write my response I got to thinking, "have I ever posted here before." Turns out that I had, luckily I found my message on page 3 or 4 and didn't have to flip around too much to find it. However that brings me to my idea, would it be possible to give posters an indication that they've already posted in a thread. I've had a few times where I have declined to comment in one of the sites longer threads simply because I couldn't remember (and didn't want to dig through 150 pages of conversation) if I had already posted my thoughts there. Not a big deal if this is difficult to do, but I just think it would make the boards a little easier to navigate.

I always thought the foldable wings were so the plane was easier to store on aircraft carriers.

The follow up to the above post. I know some people go on a search for religious enlightenment, others attempt to find the meaning of life, and (apparently) others search for a more reflective kind of grammar.

I love the idea of deciding the certain aspects of grammar are not worthy. I didn't know that it was one of those things that you got to pick and chose.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

I'll agree on how good that cell phone camera is! I'm sporting a blackberry with a 3.2 mp camera and can't get shots that nice. The ride looks like it is coming along very nicely, I look forward to seeing when some of the new theming starts going up. -
I made the final payment for my Honeymoon this afternoon. 7 day Caribbean cruise in May.

The Bruins pulled it out, but not before giving me a huge scare! I got called a UCLA bandwagon fan today... Is it possible to be an alumni and a bandwagon fan?

Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

The drop isn't the big thing on this ride. What I am more interested in is having good pacing throughout the ride. While it is something that we really can't judge until opening day, from the looks of it this ride should have pretty decent pacing, and looks like it will deliver some decent positive and negative forces. -
I'm just hoping my Bruins don't get knocked out quickly this year!

I love Brodeur however if I really had to pick the best netminder that I have ever seen play I would have to go with Hasek. There was a few years where that guy was not only a brick wall, but was possibly the most fun goalie in the league to watch. Guess there isn't going to be many votes for Kelly Hrudey as the best goalie ever!

Six Flags May Not Survive 2009...
AllenA07 replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Personally while I have hope that this is going to work out, I don't think the future for the chain is very bright. As far as selling parks, with current economic conditions I would be shocked to see a parks move easily. Remember just the other day we heard that Cedar Fair is looking to sell some of it's properties. You take that with the fact the FUN stock has (as everything else has) lost substantial value, I strongly doubt they are in a position to be looking at buying anything right now. -
Six Flags May Not Survive 2009...
AllenA07 replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A chapter 11 wouldn't be the worst thing at this point, considering I read a few weeks ago about companies that could end up being forced into a chapter 7, one of which is Six Flags. Plenty of corporations have had to file chapter 11 and have come out of it just fine. It'll be interesting to see what ends up happening. -
Somehow I think this is going to be one of those things that fizzles out quickly, and then reappears in 5-10 years as a trivia question.

Six Flags May Not Survive 2009...

^I've got to agree on this one. I think it is a nice thought that all these people who invest in amusement parks do so because they have fond childhood memories of riding leap the dips and eating cotton candy in the midway. When in all reality they are invested because at the time they saw potential to make a profit. For many years now (I don't have the money to make it worth my while, so I've holding off) I have been thinking about investing in Six Flags, and have been watching the stock. From just that I can see a potential problem for me is that once I'm monetarily invested my heart is going to follow my money. Your favorite park not getting a coaster is FAR less important then me not getting a return on my investment. The point of all of this is, people invest because they think they can make a profit, not (generally) because they have a deep love of the industry. I would consider investing in amusement parks not because of how much I enjoy them, but rather because I feel I have more knowledge about parks then the average person does. I would hope I would be able to use that knowledge to follow trends in the industry. In contrast if I invest in widgets, I've got no working knowledge of the widget industry. I wouldn't be able to spot trends and I feel that in the short term (long term I attempt to learn about the widget market) that would hurt me. Wow, all of that to make the point that people invest because they think they'll make a profit, not because they have a love for the industry. As it goes right now I wouldn't be investing in any park chain. Cedar Fair is looking better, but I would take their announcement of looking to sell parks as a red flag warning that not all is well. When is Six Flags set to get delisted, I know they've been trading under $1.00 for a while. Any news on a possible reverse stock split coming up, my guess is they'd want to hold off on that because share holders are not going to be big fans of such a move, though it is better then being delisted. -
Seriously?

Woman sues Magic Springs
AllenA07 replied to kidcoaster 2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It'll be settled out of court, but if the park really was negligent in maintaining something in their park, they should lose. Bad things do happen to people, and it doesn't always mean the person is just looking for a quick buck. I'll admit that I'm biased to a degree, but I don't think any of us know enough facts to really make a determination here.
