  1. I used to be able to see SFMM from my house, that was always a sure fire way to make me think of coasters.
  2. I want to say he started at 3B, but I could be wrong. Jody Davis is managing the Daytona Cubs now, too. I believe you're right, he did start at 3rd base.
  3. I actually watched that movie a few months ago on Encore, so it has been on TV at least once in the past few months.
  4. I was happy to hear that the Dodgers have moved their triple A team back to Albuquerque (my parents live out there, so I'm in the area on a semi-regular basis) this season. I figure that it isn't the same as watching my beloved Dodgers, but at least I can go check out some of our prospects.
  5. Well I decided not to be lazy and check wikipedia, and sure enough they are at the Field museum, so it likely was them. If anybody is curious, between the two of them they are suspected of killing upwards of 130 people. So pretty scary stuff if you think about it.
  6. I just registered for classes for the final time. 1 more year to go and I'm free!
  7. It does like a very nice park, it seems to have some real charm to it. In regards to the Six Flags Cuts thing, I don't know about anybody else here, but personally when i go for a hair cut, one of the things I always hope for is that it is NEVER a thrilling experience. Thrilling + Haircut = People laughing at you.
  8. ^^^^I've never seen anything cool about Aviators. Unless I change my last name to MacAurther and start smoking a corn cob pipe, I don't think I'd ever bring myself to wear a pair.
  9. I really wondering about charging a base price of $40 and then under cutting it with discounts. What this is making me really question is who are they trying to get through the gates. Are they going for the locals? Are they going from people within say a 100 mile radius from the park? Are they trying to get people to come from the other side of the country, other side of the world? If the park is mainly going to be promoted to locals for the first few years (I'm looking short term here, not long term) discounts on season passes might be the way to go. Charge $40 for a ticket or $50-60 for a season pass (with a coupon book full of extras). Something like that might have a better chance to attract locals, and then revenue could be generated inside the park through sales of food, drinks and the such. If the park is looking to bring in people from Ubeckistan (most random country mentioned on TPR today? I think so.) then it would make more sense to charge a higher ticket price. If you're going to spend $2000 in travel just to see the park, you're not going to change your mind over a $10-20 difference in ticket prices. Basically my point is that with the prices they're charging I'm having a hard time trying to figure out any direction. Who are they trying to get through that gate. $75 for a season pass is a little steep. If I was running the park I think I would discount the season passes before the general admission tickets. Give the local crowd a chance to get used to the park, and from there slowly expand into a regional, and finally a national level park. With that said it just seems like the prices they are charging is going to price a lot of people out. $75 is a lot to spend on season pass at a time like this and I simply don't see them moving, especially to a park that people give such poor reviews. I hope they do get this place turned around, I really do, but I personally can't see it.
  10. So the pictures of the lions, would those have happened to be the Tsavo man-eaters? I know they're on display in Chicago, just not sure where. For those of you now wondering what the Tsavo man-eaters are, if you have ever seen the movie The Ghost and the Darkness, it is based on the true story of the Tsavo man-eaters. If you haven't seen the movie go rent it, because it really is a good movie.
  11. I'm going to join the club that I am shocked that this article is so shocking. It is a sad subject and Dubai does look like a very cool place to visit, however the fact that they're basically using slavery (though this would be similar to serfdom I guess) is something I've known for a while. Why doesn't it get much press? Well with all the numerous other problems in the region this one ranks pretty low on that list. I'm glad this got posted on here, good to bring awareness to people.
  12. ^Only one way to be completely sure. On another topic, I do tend to agree that the bridge is narrow, however if bridge makes up part of the line itself I don't think it will be a big deal. Also I was under the impression that the exit would be over near Deja Vu, just seemed like a logical place for it. Finally is the area itself still being called Cyclone Bay, seems that this might be a good time to consider a name change.
  13. Those prices are far too much for this park. Personally looking at the situation I don't see it being possible that this park can have a 2010 season. First off there is a lot of talk about people being bitter over the building of the park in the first place, well just because it changes names doesn't change that situation. Furthermore people now are going to have it in their heads that the park has failed and closed (because it did), which will be a major problem for them. With the economy like it is right now I just can't see people making the trip to this park where they will end up paying more than if they went to another park in the region. Robb has mentioned to get there before the end of this season. I think if you really want to go you should move faster then that, because I simply don't see this place making it through an entire season.
  14. I've worked at a park on numerous holidays but I don't think i've ever actually gone as a guest for a holiday or for my birthday. I've done the Las Vegas Strip on New Years Eve a couple of times, as well as on the 4th of July, but I don't think that really counts.
  15. Yeah because I'm sure that soooo many people decided not to go to HRP park because they were not big fans for Rock. I mean I'm sure millions of people out there said to themselves, "damn that park looks fun, if only it was named adult alternative polka and yodeling adventure world, man I would so be there." While I hate to see a park close, I'm not putting my money on this one making it. Personally if the park survives the entire season I would be almost willing to consider that a success in and of itself.
  16. My feeling on Flash pass is that if you like it and want to spend the money good for you. If you don't like it and don't want to spend on it, that's just fine as well. Not sure the need for a big debate over if it is a good idea or not. If you go to the park on a Saturday afternoon in July and don't get Flash Pass, just accept that you're not going to get on everything. If you want to ride everything and not spend the money of Flash pass, then go on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Simple as that.
  17. I have not had a season pass in many years. I've been far too busy (and cash strapped) to get to many parks over the last several years, so I live vicariously through TPR. However in the past I had a Six Flags pass, and at one time had a Cedar Fair pass.
  18. I was a Ricky Rudd fan for many years, since he has stopped driving I've been waiting for a new driver to follow. And if it makes you feel better, I'm sure I watched that race and never once did I think, "Hmm look at that idiot in the infield."
  19. How about a TPR Prophylactic?
  20. ^That's right the goal is to take the flags. And when you tackle them it is soooo much easier to get that flag from them.
  21. I'm hoping a TPR pen comes in my Bag-o-crap.
  22. I don't know if it'll be this year, but I've had the feeling for the last several years that California Great America has numbered days ahead of it. I think with the downturn in the economy that it is possible that the park may be heading (again just a feeling I have little proof to offer for this) into its final season.
  23. I won't bother Dan, nor spoil what that feature is, but I really like the design feature. I've never seen a building do that before.
  24. Like so many others I'll put my vote in for Ninja at SFMM as having the worst ending. I mean I can't tell you how many times you start going up the life and people think that some huge intense element is coming on the other side. What is on the other side? The station.
  25. ^As far as I know Terminator Salvation is going to be PG-13.
