Bill... ever think of becoming a meteorologist? lol. Your calculations and weather research is impressive! .1! Also, never become a ride op... you'd be letting the parents with their 36" kids on the 48" height requirement rides because the parents said they were close enough. You keep comparing all the parks to Great Adventure which is the weather anomaly of the coaster world, but even they got von rolled in 60mph gusts. If you ever open your own park let me know... you'd keep the skyride running in a hurricane and you know it... just to show Six Flags who's boss. -
The only shot I have without me or my fiancé in it... memorizing, I know... My quick report: A balmy 20-something degrees and everything was open! Yay! Spiked cider! ($10) Yay! Houdini! Yay! Finally got to ride the green side of the Joker. Clearly superior especially the first guaranteed flip in the front. Purple didn't flip at all for us once again. The waffle cart (~$11) was awesome including the real good PREMIUM hot chocolate they served there (~5$). Rode all the open coasters except for Green Lantern since i consider myself a smart human being -- Longest wait was Joker at 5 minutes... though I didn't get to 'von roll' my way across the park since we had to head out a little early. Was impressed yet again by Six Flags and I'm really happy I made the long trip. Not sure how they make enough money to stay afloat, though I will say the midways seemed a bit more crowded as we were heading out. Now we just need some of the other Christmas parks up here to bend the rules and actually open some damn rides! Oh, and what's with those creepy ass burnt gingerbread people!?

I feel like those comments are directed at me for some reason lol -- that is pretty amazing though and once again Bill is frickin right. Getting super excited for tomorrow!!!! I forgot the NJ/SF rules do they let you carry around your spiked cider or do you have to drink in a designated area? I got my $10 bills ready!

Awesome report and pics! I want to make the 6 hour drive this weekend on Saturday but the combination of wind and cold tells me maybe we should maybe wait (though it could be worse next weekend, who knows)... I know bill jokes about them running nitro until it valleys but I was screwed over at SFGADV once before due to winds (nitro and many other rides closed, and Toro valleyed that morning) so I know it's not 100% true -- I know to take forecasts with a grain of salt but if the HIGH is 36 degrees with light to moderate winds will they fire the rides up to start the day? I'm just weary because at the park I worked at, you know, we actually follow the temperature rules. Many rides have a start-up temperature but you can keep running if it gets colder... but 36 degrees, honestly I'm not sure how that will work at six flags. Just paranoid since it will be a long journey... I know I would still enjoy myself but i don't know the history of how last year went on the colder and windier days. Thanks! Oh, and most importantly, how much is the spiked cider and where the hell is this majestic place located???? A couple of those paired with Houdini and Joker sounds like a fun time, even if the big rides were to close...

Lake Compounce Discussion Thread

They don't do a whole lot throughout the park decoration wise and they don't have "scare zones" per-say, but the walkthrough made up for it. -

I was there the same night. For closing early, the operator at wipeout had mentioned to our group they were closing early. This was around 7:00. So operators definitely knew but they didn't do a good job communicating to guests overall it seems. The haunted walkthrough was fantastic! (Thank goodness for the free express pass) -- much better than I expected and high quality throughout the entire 45min-1hour! A great value for the price and much better than many of the haunts I've done so far this year. Boulderdash was wayyy too rough for the others in my group, but I thought it was great minus the one major pothole everyone talks about. They really need to fix that. The ride was flying at night. Just wish they had 2 train ops so I could have gotten more than 2 rides in. If you havn't done the graveyard, do it! It's a lot of fun. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

It's like ~$15 for the buffet which includes unlimited drinks. So it's a deal for theme park food. That being said, I much prefer Famous Dave's and Cedar Points food selections really do suck -
For Cedar Point, definitely wait until you get there and judge the lines for the haunt passes. On Sundays (albeit I always go earlier in the season) the past 3 years the absolute longest I've ever had to wait was 10-15 minutes for a house. Obviously your milage may vary, but just an observation -- I can see them selling out on a Saturday, but not on a Friday or Sunday.
-
I've had some decent experiences at the Cedar Point haunt. It's pretty hit or miss from house to house and year to year. I have always gone Sundays when there are no lines, so unfortunately the scare zones and spooky atmosphere is not there so I don't really know what night time is like, but some actors were really into it and make the houses enjoyable. You are right that it's not on the same level as HOS, but it's way better than a lot of other park offerings.

Side note: I'm not sure how fantasy island is making any money with $44 season passes for next year. Plus they allow bringing in food, etc. Unless they start charging for parking next year... -- as for Darien Lake, that is a good price for a season pass with all the perks. Yeah it's not Six Flags pricing, but... pretty close!

Up and down all day long with extended down times... but yes it was technically open. I got my one and only ride in and the thing is insane. I wish I had a chance to ride again to comprehend what happened. Absolutely brutal. In a good way. The ride variety and uniqueness of the rides at Dollywood is fantastic. So glad I got to experience this park and Lightning Rod, just wish we didn't have to deal with the bee issue and many downtimes. Still a great day with practically no lines! Oh. And cinnamon bread? Holy S*** -
Went to Kings Dominion last night (not part of the ACE trip, I must clarify lol) and it definitely won the award for worst cedar fair haunt I've ever been to. (last year I did Dorney, Wonderland, Kings Island, and Cedar Point.) It's slightly above Fright Fest at SFNE a few years ago, which is the crappiest haunt I've ever been to. Should have a full review to come! Going to Scarowinds tonight I'm hoping it goes better.

You are exactly right. I've been to a few parks with VR but always avoided the rides because lines are insane. Even at SF Great America where it appeared Demon had two seperate lines, there's no way the non VR line wasn't going slower with the addition of the VR train. I want to try it once but don't want to deal with everything else that comes with it. I want to ENJOY my visit and waiting (or NOT waiting) for VR even if I don't want to use it is ridiculous in my opinion. Kraken is a great ride on its own, and having these pouches attached to the train? I think that is a bad idea too and will actually make things slower. Sigh.

FEARVR extra charge, perhaps? -
Thanks for the report and pictures! Looking forward to my first trip to Williamsburg HOS on Friday. One thing I noticed on the website is it says unearthed starts at 530 instead of 600. You mentioned you went there first did you find that to be true? Also, how were the lines when you went? Just seems like a lot to get done in 4 hours (4.5 if unearthed opens early) without QQ. I think it's going to be a must with only 1 day to do all the mazes (then again it's a Friday and early in the season?), but do you have any tips or recommendations or a specific path to take for the haunts? We are going to be there all day to do all the rides and shows during the day. Thanks!
