Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
lapseofreason replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Your post is about 3 weeks too late... Whoops.... I had no idea they already closed. Last I knew they still did Halloween stuff and closed a little after that. Oh, and on the Double Loop thing... it would be cool to see KBF get it, just so I can ride it again, but.... I highly doubt it too. -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
lapseofreason replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
OK, this officialy blows. There's no way I'll be able to make it back there before the end of this season. I'm really, really, really upset by this. GL was my home park for 18 years and also once had my first credit (Corkscrew). It wasn't really that bad of a park. When I was growing up, it was pretty much all I had to look forward to. Thanks, Cedar Fair. At the moment, I'm sorely tempted to never go to stupid Cedar Point, ever. I really don't know what else to say at this point. Well, I do, but a lot of it is profane and I know I can't do it here. -Amanda "Actually, I'm pretty much speechless" V. -
That's a MAJOR dissapointment for me. Carnage E. Hall was probably my favorite attraction in the whole of SFMM. And I have always felt that Deadman's Bog was weak. I will say that it's interesting that both The Asylum and Jokester's Hideout will not be returning. I wonder if this means work will move ahead on Flashback sooner? I have seen that they have removed the final train from the main circuit. *strokes chin and ponders* I was just going to say that about Jokester's Hideout... and didn't the Asylum use the Metro station near the main gate? Maybe they'll finally start working on that as well? As for scaling down FF, I'll have to say after going through pretty much all the mazes last year, I really wasn't that impressed (or maybe I'm just hard to scare), so I can't comment on that. The whole "No more fog" ticks me off though. That was one of the cool things, when you were riding something that was close to a cannon and some fog drifted by randomly. Oh, and am I mistaken, or was the park open for weekdays longer last year? I was surprised to find that they already started closing at 6 and next week it's back to closed on weekdays again. Crud, I was going to try to get a few more weekdays in now that school started but I guess that's not going to happen.

Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
lapseofreason replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I won't believe this for now since they're rumors (and I still need my Thunderhawk credit)... but the whole situation with Geauga Lake pisses me off. This was my home park growing up... I went there numerous times, both when it was still Geauga Lake (I think Funtime still owned it then) and when it was a Six Flags. Every time I went there, I really enjoyed it. I remember seeing pictures in another thread of the other waterpark sitting there rotting. It makes me sad because there used to be a really cool kids' area there... I remember my brother marathoning the Rotor, and riding on the little ferris wheel that was over there. Now the Skyscraper, which used to freak me out, sits there among weeds and stuff. I mean, I know waterparks are popular in NE Ohio, but building an entirely new one and letting the area rot is beyond stupid. As for moving the coasters (so far X-Flight and Superman) that happens everywhere... but when they get up to possibly moving 4, I really have a feeling that CF doesn't care about this park. I really don't like the fact that they own it. I mean, I like the name change back to GL and all, but honestly I think the quote about going back to tradition is BS. I agree with the person that said they're out to destroy this park to get more people to go to CP. Now, I haven't been since 2001, but...I'm sure if I went back now, I would still like this park, and I don't want to see it die. The thing about continuing to rip out coasters concerns me because I'm really wondering if this is true, if they'll be totally evil and close the park. Although, whoever said the thing about turning the whole place into condos... I wouldn't put it past Ohio. Maybe they should get rid of the old waterpark finally, move the flats back over, and sell off the Sea World side instead. OK, I'm done ranting. -

Rock shows at parks

I haven't seen anything at a park, but my husband saw Sparks at Magic Mountain in 1983. He said it kicked butt. -
Shoes on rides
lapseofreason replied to screenroxer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think there has been a thread about this before.. but let me once again state that I do NOT condone, or like, people dumping their smelly flip flops before they ride a floorless/inverted/SLC/whatever. I mean, come on: a)You KNOW you might lose your shoes. So, yeah, SURE, kick them off on top of my backpack and let Tatsu eat your Razr instead. b) People with skate shoes and Adidas fare nearly the same. YOU HAVE SHOELACES, USE THEM ACCORDINGLY. Your shoes will NOT show up on the onride photo so tying them for 2 minutes will not instantly deem you a nerd. c) Don't people have the common sense that when they wake up in the morning, "Hey, I'm going to a place where I'm going to be whipped upside down and sideways and to hell and back, I'd better wear tennis shoes so I don't lose them"? Or, "OK, I really want to wear flip flops so that hot guy can see my $50 pedicure, but I know if I'm kicking sandals on and off all day my feet will end up bacteria laden and black, so yeah, I'd better wear sneakers"... or is that just me? Enough said. -Amanda "This rant is brought to you by 1 pile of stinky cheerleader flip flops on top of my bag on SFMM's Batman 1 year ago" V. -

I don't know if anyone here has heard of Bill Maher, but he ROCKS! Funniest dude I've ever seen. His stuff is usually on HBO.

Earlier today we drove down the street to the Watermelon Festival, which is held pretty much every year in Sunland Park. Since we are now allowed to make bigger picture captions I will let them do the talking. Enjoy! On the way out, I noticed this beer garden but didn't have the time or money to stop. Thanks as always for reading! Finally... the obligatory "rotating tunnel of doom". Another obstacle meant for kids that I just walked right over. Believe me, this "funhouse mirror" pic was a lot more interesting when I took it This is a bit blurry, but more stupid poles greeted me next. Wow, what a challenge. This WAS moving when I approached it, but after one revolution with me holding onto the pole, it stopped. Score! I broke the fun house!! AAAA! CANDY CANES OF DOOM!!! And I think these were SUPPOSED to move, but not under 180 lbs. of Amandaness. Oh well. This disk moved when I stepped on it. Wow. Next up were bungee cords. I felt like I was 10 and watching "Nickelodeon GUTS" again, but with far less cords. Chains were my first obstacle. I was also in awe of the amazing "farm" themeing. So I wasted my 3 remaining tickets on the "Funni Farm" fun house I was all ready to get on the "Roller Coaster" with a ghetto Final Destination 3 logo on the front... when the ride dude informed me that I was too tall and showed me the evil sign that also eludes me of my Goliath Jr. credit... you had to be under 60". It had a lift and everything. Rrrr. And there was also the Ferris wheel with the spinning cars, whose name escapes me Other flats included this ride that looked like it had whip-style cars for some reason ... FREE. WATERMELON.!!! As you can see, my husband went overboard on the meaning of "free" and grabbed me this massive chunk, which he proceeded to eat half of. LOL. But here is the real reason we drove a whopping 2 miles in 90 degree heat... .. and your usual Tilt-A-Whirl ripoff, which this time was the "Bear Affair". Personally, if I'm gonna puke, I'd rather do it on "Barrels of Fun". ...a "Quazar", which I have been on before but not here, a pretty fun flat... ...some bumper cars... Other rides they had included your typical smallish Eli Ferris Wheel... Regardless, my husband dragged me on it... we survived, but barely Doesn't it look like it's going to fall apart at any second? The festival featured such rides as the Roll-O-Plane Of Death The first thing I thought was, "OMFG, a credit!" but we'll get back to that later welcome to the Watermelon Festival

...Um, not really. I unfortunately work at Subway, and after a year, I've actually gained weight from eating at least 1 6 inch every day. Also, it's not much different from the burger joints as we get all our meat prepackaged, presliced, and previously frozen. Even the bread comes frozen in sticks. We also have breakfast (some stores don't) and yes, the egg comes frozen, already conveniently placed in "omelet" form. So... I will agree with whoever said that it doesn't matter what you eat, it's how much you exercise and your metabolism.

Ugh, the last time I ate one of those I got freaking food poisoning, which resulted in wasting a whole day of vacation vomiting and wishing I was dead. -Amanda "Burger King wins since I'm not eating McDonald's anymore, at least not out here" V.

I only need one symbol to voice my opinion on this. * ...Enough said. -
^There were two trains... yeah, I should have mentioned that. Also, I saw one train go up empty once (whether there was a problem with it or not, I don't know, since I still wasn't in the freaking station). Also, three moron bimbos ran up the single rider line to ride with their boyfriends. I yelled at them but a few people just laughed. I should have reported them but, oh well.

awwww. I'm not really religious anymore, but I'm sure your mom was an awesome person and will be missed by those who love her. These are tough times, I'm sure, but stay strong and I hope everything works out. -Amanda "I tried to say cool stuff" V.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!! You have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . . . . . . . . . . . .. I, too, hated the ending. Everything turned out how one would expect it from her writing... I mean, Hermione with Ron (it was kind of sickening how they just fell into each other's arms too), Harry with Ginny... rrrr. PLUS SNAPE FREAKING DIED!! RRRRR! He was my most favorite evil dude!!! It was a good book, but... rrr. Like I said, whilst I was reading the end, I started to guess what would happen and I really wish that didn't. But it was enjoyable and I really wish there was one more book instead of the tacked-on, totally canon epilogue (who wouldn't?) END SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -amanda
