^No way, you got Dragster? How'd you pull that one off?! I got put on the freaking train

O Great Title Fairy, Many thanks for changing my title the last time I requested. However, I am now accustomed to the offseason, and my fate is sealed: this summer I will be working, out of all rides, the train at Cedar Point. (LOL.) However, as of late, my creativity has dwindled. If you could find the time to come up with a new title for me (anytime before May is great), I would appreciate it. Thank you.

I HATED gym. I was the kid that always got picked last and shoved in the outfield or whatever. Also, I pretty much suck at sports; I can shoot baskets and that's about it. I remember getting in a fight with a cheerleader (that was in a lower grade than me, no less) for like a whole semester because I sucked so bad at volleyball and she couldn't figure out why "I wasn't trying". LOL.

I found this posted on a Cedar Point board for some reason. Apparently back in the 80's (I think that's when this is from; the person who put it on Youtube didn't give a year) being a sweeper was a totally awesome position at SFMM. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxiyBHM2kek ADMIN EDIT: Edited this post so the video shows up. You can easily embed a YouTube video in your post by clicking the "Video" button, pasting the link, then clicking "Video" again.

Two days will definitely be enough time to hit everything at SFMM. I don't recall when LA schools tend to have their spring break, but of course some will be out around Easter. I would say, if you are getting to the park at opening, eyeball the crowd while you are waiting. If it is really big, the first thing I would do is go and buy Flash Passes (run straight ahead when you get through the gates, and where you need to be is right behind Guest Services, next to the wheelchair rental). I recommend getting passes first, if need be, because the last few crowded days I've happened upon, I've arrived at the park about 30 minutes after opening (due to not enough parking/toll gates being open) and found a 45 minute line for Flash Passes. Get them first and get them out of the way! When the park opens, since it's likely that X2 won't be open, run to Tatsu. If necessary use a Flash Pass. Then go to Deja Vu, which does not take Flash Pass, so you'll have to wait in line. MM is pretty circular in its layout, so continue around the park after that, using Flash Passes if you bought them/if needed. I don't know about Easter, but I don't think Monday should be that crowded. Enjoy and hope this helps! -Amanda

I have mixed feelings on Flash Passes. First off, if I ever decided to visit a park (I'll use SFMM as an example) on a crowded day where all the lines were ridiculously long (say, 3 hours), I can see how Flash Passes are worth the money. But on the other hand, there's people like me, who tend to avoid the park on days like that. Also, let me just state that my husband had an Xtreme Play Pass last year, so we got free Flash Passes. Here's my point. We usually visited SFMM in early spring, when all the kids were in school, then a few times again in the fall, and maybe once or twice for Fright Fest. Most of these days either a) all the rides were walk-ons and we ended up eating Flash Passes, or... b) SFMM's system is so darn inconsistent that half the time we ended up leaving the line upset. About half the time we visited, the employee took our passes, and we only waited about 2 or 3 trains. The other half of our visits, the employee used the correct procedure and made us go wait in the back of the station. Now I have no problem with following procedure (unlike my husband, who assumed every time that since we were let on the front row with FP's it should happen EVERY TIME). ...Anyways, here's an example. Let's say Riddler's line fills up the queue house and is just down the stairs past that. On a good day I think I waited about an hour and fifteen minutes for that. They were running 2 trains. We use Flash Passes and are told to go wait in back of the station as usual. This is where it doesn't make sense. I've had this happen on several rides. On several occasions we were just handed back the Flash Passes and told "oh, the line is short" and still ended up waiting upwerds of an hour. I know it's policy, and it's good that the employees follow that. My point is, I think the whole point of Flash Passes would work better if they implemented a system on all the rides like that on Tatsu, where the last 2 lanes in the station are used for Flash Pass. (Now, I'm not sure if that has changed, because the last time I tried to visit in December, the Flash Pass line had moved to right before the stairs to go up into the station, merging with the regular line.) Most of the time when we used the special Tatsu line, it ended up only being a 15 minute wait when the line was 2 hours, not a 45 minute wait because we got shoved at the back of the station. I just don't think it's worth the value, and like I said, I think the system needs to be changed; and that's why I don't spend $20 on extra ones for myself. Just my 2 cents.

Go to Cedar Point But seriously, I'm impressed by this update. X2's paint looks really awesome, it's too bad I probably can't ride it this year. FREE binoculars? More paint? I'm shocked It looks like, for the time being, the park is finally getting their crud together. Thanks for the photos! -Amanda "I want to go steal half the stuff out of the Operations booth" V.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Rides like this and Skycoasters have always freaked me out... I know they're safe but the restraints just look so small and not restraining, lol... I don't know if I can bring myself to ride this -

Great pictures. I'm still kind of cheesed that they closed GL. -
So I just called back to check on my application, and as you can see from my signature, I GOT HIRED!!!! I am so f'ing excited... I can't wait until May! EDIT: #700! Woohoo!!
-
well, my avatar is me, but I have shorter hair now... and I'll definitely let everyone know if I get hired what ride I'll be at
-
So here is my excited update: About an hour ago, I did an interview over the phone with this guy Steve (I forget his last name), who I guess is one of the higher-up people in rides. All the questions were stuff I'd answerered before, just your basic customer service "what would you do with a rude customer or in this situation", etc. kind of questions. So at the end he said everything looked good, and that they were going to maybe call my references, do a background check, have his boss review my application, and he said that I would definitely hear back from him within the next 7 days! So it looks like if everything goes right I'll be a ride op at CP this season! Freaking sweet!
-
Wasn't planning on it. I can imagine all the stupid highschool-ish drama that would cause. Ugh. ...I mean, I wasn't planning on it, assuming someone actually calls me back and I get hired. -Amanda "Really needs to stop counting chickens before they hatch" V.

Wow, there was a lot of pretty good info in this thread. If the statement about hiring pretty much everyone is right, I'll be sitting next to the phone for the next few weeks.
-
I applied online this afternoon, for the whole season...my first choice was ride op. How long does it normally take CP to look at applications? Also, what's the interview like? Any info or help would be cool EDIT: Never mind, I got a call back and did a phone interview this afternoon (2/5). So far everything looks good!

Death to Circus Wheel (although I think I already heard that it was gone)... that thing made me dizzy, and my husband always dragged me on it. And Jet Stream needed a rehab... it really beat the crap out of me last time I rode it. It felt like there wasn't enough water in the flume or something. They should repaint the boats while they're at it.

Shane's Amusement Attic

"25 minutes from Hollywood...." Could you actually make it in that amount of time back then? I wasn't aware that Sky Tower was ever sponsored by anything, let alone Western Airlines. Interesting. And yay for Colossus racing and an OTSR-less Revy. Mmm. Thanks for more cool SFMM stuff! -

Every time I see Kings Dominion now I think of the movie "Rollercoaster". ^It is cool to see what all these places used to be like, even though I've never been to most of them. Are these parks really in that bad of a shape, or is it like when people talk about SFMM: "Oh, it would be cool if this ride/whatever was still there"? Regardless, cool stuff. -
I'll second not believing it's been 5 years already since Scream! opened. :sniff: It was so smooth then.... All the X2 progress is interesting, I'll be in LA in April for Coachella but I doubt it'll be open then.... maybe I can make it out again later this year (this is all assuming I find a job NOW). Has anyone been on Viper since it reopened? Did all that brake work help, or what? ...I'll stop ranting. -Amanda "I miss SFMM already" V.

I had forgotten how COLD Ohio is. BRRRRRRRRR! At least there's no snow. Yet.
-
Hi Title Fairy, I know you are busy incurring your wrath on those who do not know how to post right, so I will make this short. I am heading to Ohio tomorrow from Los Angeles, and if at all possible, I would like my title to be magically changed to "Currently being reintroduced to offseason" or a like title to your taste. Thank you! -Amanda
