Legoland California Discussion Thread
XYZ replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you notice, most park splash boats have theming in the splashdown area rather than on the lift, Monsoon Falls and the chute the shoot at CGA have no theming on the lift, but theming in the splashdown. Plus the ride is going to be integrated into an area of the park that is already very well themed, so I'm sure it'll turn out fine. I have yet to see a Lego attraction that didn't have a decent amount of theming. I was surprised to see the manufacturer name, OD Hopkins. I know they stopped making coasters in the late 90's, but they still make theme park rides? Even though, I wouldn't suspect Legoland to ever do this, but to have something like Escape from Pompeii (BGW) would be really spectacular. -
How Old Are You & What Was Your 1st Coaster?
XYZ replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know if I posted here before. Though, I thought Woodstock Express (CGA) was my first coaster, but it actually is Taxi Jam (CGA) as my first coaster at an age or around 3 - 6. -
Mass ride removal trends
XYZ replied to megametal's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It mostly is Arrow rides/coasters in general being removed and 1st generation freefalls. I don't see log flumes going away since they are still a product that Intamin, Mack, & others still sell to this day, sure the old Arrow flumes are going as with all Arrow rides will be left in the history books. -

Not a big fan of a Montu rip-off. The colors & the theme are almost exact to Montu. -

I wonder why they didn't name it Sky Screamer, the park already has a coaster named Goliath and since we are talking about Six Flags . Though, I do like that this Star Flyer has a different name, at least SF has some creative thinking. -

Legoland California will become my home park starting in the summer. Yes, I'm moving to North County from the Bay Area this summer. Though, I'm not really impressed with Pirate Reef. Yes, it's a good addition to the park, though I would've liked a bit more theming on the lift. -

I think that Star Tower really needs a new paint scheme. The one on it now looks dull as the tower would look nicer with a Carolina Skytower color scheme, or just to paint the whole tower blue with white stars like the paint scheme on the bottom section. -
SFMM trip - suggestions for a cheap hotel?
XYZ replied to GCS's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, it's close to SFMM, I really don't know what city it is in since I'm not a local resident like you are (at the moment). Though, for cheap rates Motel 6 is good. -

I'm serious about this: Go to the Motel 6 in Valencia, it's actually pretty good for the price you are paying. I always visit Motel 6 for an overnight visit whenever I go to Magic Mountain. -

Phantasialand could get a B&M Wing Rider next year, though just a wild guess. -

MONEY! Of course, Cedar Fair wants to earn a profit with CGA. Honestly, I just think the 2013 coaster will be the GCI coaster, it makes no sense to create a new design that would waste money. -

I went on that website for years now, the only problem is that your post needs to be approved before it goes on the forum and the amount of time it takes to get approved takes weeks. Though, I realy enjoy the old pictures, though the site is more geared toward Six Flags Great America it seems. -
Well, one small park you could do is Fun Spot USA to ride the World's Tallest Skycoaster.

You cannot do MGM & Animal Kingdom in one day, both parks are large enough to spend a whole day. The same with Universal, each of those parks you need to spend a day at. Really, out of all the parks in Orlando/Tampa area, Sea World is the one that least impresses me, as I said above that if you really like aquariums, go there. Though, Sea World only has animal exhibits, and it does have two stellar roller coasters, but Islands of Adventure has 2 stellar roller coasters & BGT has 4 stellar roller coasters. I would pass Sea World.

Are you sure you didn't mean 1997/1998 off season for Vortex's repaint? Seriously, I highly doubt it's ever gotten a repaint since it switched to yellow/purple. The track is white, and the "purple" is pink at this point. It looks pretty shabby. I wish CGA would actually repaint something. When Woodstock's Express got a new paint job in 2010, it looked like a brand new coaster, and still does today. Vortex's paint isn't that old, the paint isn't getting dull. -
I would visit EPCOT, since it has really good attractions, food, etc. If you are going to Florida just for coaster credits, you are going to the wrong place. Florida parks have less coasters and more attractions (not rides) than most parks. California, Virginia, & Ohio are states for coaster credits. If you are going without a budget, I'd go to all four WDW parks in four days, Islands of Adventure one day, BGT one day. I would highly reccomend going down to the Kennedy Space Center for one day as it is worth it. For the remainder of the three days: there is Tampa & Daytona Beach. There isn't much hiking in Florida since it isn't mountainous (where most trails are). Though, you can check for some state parks to visit there. For Universal Studios & Sea World, it depends on your taste. Love Movies? Go to Universal Studios Love the Aquarium/Sea-Life Animals? Go to Sea World I said this before, but this is very important and I must say this again: Don't go to Florida just for the credits

Honestly, I think the Demon could use the "New Texas Giant treatment". No, not the Iron Horse track, but to re-do the coaster by putting in new track, better theming, and a whole better experience and market it as a new ride. For new track, Vekoma doesn't really need to do it, something like Premier track would work. -
Hidden treasures/left overs

In CGA, Stealth's station still exists, it's now the enterance for Didgeridoo Falls, DownUnder Thunder, & Tasmanian Typhoon. Stealth's large footers still exist next to Logger's Run's drop. -
Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit has some really odd-but good looking trains.

The only stand-up I rode is Vortex (CGA) and that is far from the best. From reviews, I picked Riddler's Revenge since everyone talks about how amazing the ride is. I'm going to SFMM to see it this summer, so I will really see if it lives up to its name.

Dam, that coaster has faded a lot! I don't remember it being faded that much, it was red not pink track. It might just be the angle of the picture and the angle of the sun. Also, something is wrong with this photo, I just don't know what it is. (I got this photo from SFDK Facebook & Theme Park Review)

Well, first of all it is Invertigo, not Vertigo. Though, I think a Dive Machine would be a really good addition to the park, make it 220' tall (up to height limit), cost $16 million (Not very pricy for a large coaster), and around 3300' in length (doesn't take up much space). I believe Vortex was re-painted recently, maybe the 2007/2008 off-season because the paint on that is okay. Top Gun/Flight Deck seems like it wasn't re-painted since 2000. Demon looks like it was re-painted in the 2007/2008 off-season too since the corkscrews looks nicely painted. Psycho Mouse has probably never been re-painted as it is a dull yellow and dull teal color. Also, with CGA's coasters, I think they need an upgrade to the 21st century with more theming with Vortex, Demon, and Flight Deck. Flight Deck has good theming, though it seems like it is slowly falling apart and you can tell it is from the 90s.
