Farewell old home parks, hello new
jzoole replied to Jhcbiinoc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Aww you're doing a good thing It's tough to leave your old home parks behind, but it's certainly exciting to get to explore new ones in a more in depth way than a one-day trip allows you to. Good luck! -
Mini Photo TR: Kemah Boardwalk

I really miss The Bullet! It's been two years since my last ride. I'm glad to hear it was running well. Does it still do that thing where it takes like ten years to roll back into the station from the brake run? -
New for 2011 coasters. Any in your top 10?

New Texas Giant without question. -
Embarrassed of parks...

I got really super lucky in high school. I just happened to meet two other enthusiasts who have now been my best friends for years. I wouldn't have discovered these other enthusiasts in my midst if I hadn't been geeky enough to start talking about roller coaster trivia in front of one of them. It was so exciting to find out I wasn't alone! -

I have no problem talking about it to other people. Most people think it's an interesting hobby. -
Orphan Rocker. Haha just kidding.

How do you know what most people voted for? Did they post the results of the survey somewhere? Just wondering. I filled out the survey and suggested something along the lines of iSpeed. -
Most Overrated coaster?

Are you referring to El Toro? Because I tried front, middle, and back. -

I've been on that drop tower so many times that I can hear the tiny noise and know exactly which second it's going to drop lol -

Too rough? It's definitely one of the smoothest coasters out there. Yeah, that's what I kept hearing, so I was expecting a ride similar to New Texas Giant, but when I got on El Toro, it was bumpy as hell. Both me and my riding partner got headaches. I don't know, maybe I just went on a bad day? That ride seriously roughed me up. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
jzoole replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Some of the stupidest things I've heard came from non-enthusiast friends of mine, god love them. One friend tried to tell me that the Texas Giant was the oldest roller coaster in the world. Another tried to argue with me that Batman:The Dark Knight was really just the former Black Widow (Arrow shuttle loop) with a different name and paint scheme. Silly civilians! (That's what I call members of the GP) -

I can go on pretty much any ride or coaster without feeling the least bit scared... but.... something about a Wild Mouse spooks me lol. Getting slung around those tight corners makes me feel ever so slightly like the car will come flying off the track. In a good way of course Also, I didn't think it was going to bother me one bit, but as soon as a got to the top of the Stratosphere, I felt like my legs were made of jelly. No ride has ever scared me nearly as bad as the Big Shot. So much so that I wasted the $10 ticket I had bought for a second ride, which I was going to use on X Scream. But after The Big Shot, I wanted nothing more than to be safely back on the ground! -
Six Flags Fiesta Texas: 2012 - New GCI Coaster In Boardwalk area. 2013 - New Vekoma trains for Boomerang. Repaint Poltergeist. 2014 - Tear down the Rattler!! Replace with a B&M or Intamin Hyper that follows similar layout to Rattler. 2015 - S&S Screamin' Swing? 2016 - Build the long-ago rumored Batman-themed B&M Flyer over near Tony Hawk. Do not include a painful pretzel-loop. Six Flags Over Texas: 2012: Tear down Flashback and the old bumper car building, and expand the Gotham City area to include a highly themed Euro Fighter called "Escape From Arkham Asylum." This cool theme has too many possibilities to simply be a Wild Mouse! 2013: Return something to the Theater that once housed the Right Stuff, Dino Island, etc. 2014: Remove La Vibora. (Send it to Six Flags Mexico or something!) Replace with a B&M Wing Coaster with a cool Spanish theme. Six Flags New England: 2012: Tear down Flashback. Replace with SFMM's Deja Vu. Give it a new name and paint scheme however. I always thought "Deja Vu" was super lame. I wouldn't even be disappointed if they reused "Two-Face: The Flip Side." 2014: Start expanding the park into the woods between the picnic area and the rest of the park. There's obviously plenty of untouched property in there. I'd like to see a well themed Dark Ride Log Flume? Two things the park is missing! 2015: Intamin or Mack Launch coaster! The film adaptation of The Flash should be out around this year right? I think Central City's Scarlet Speedster is due for a Big Ticket attraction named in his honor right?

Most Overrated coaster?

For me, the most overrated ride experience I've had was El Toro. I mean, the first drop and two following airtime hills were awesome, but the whole second half of the ride was far too rough to be maneuvering through such intensely designed elements. I just ended up with a headache. I still would say I like the ride a lot, but it wasn't the mind blowing perfect coaster that it was hyped up to be. After three rides (front, middle, back) I was ready to devote the rest of the evening to Nitro, which was amazing. -
What area really needs a theme park?
jzoole replied to let1gre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One more I forgot! Memphis, TN. 1.3 million folks in the area. No park within hours. Touristy town with lots of visitors. A park could definitely do well here. -

I think all the areas that came to my mind have already been mentioned but here's my list of top spots that would be good candidates: 5. Seattle - Tacoma area. Yes, there is already Wild Waves, but that is basically a waterpark with a glorified carnival attached. Firstly, a waterpark is not going to be a big draw in such a cool, damp climate. Secondly, a metro with 3.5 million people can support something on a much bigger scale. 4. Charleston, SC - Savannah, GA area. About 3.5-4 hours to the nearest major park (Carowinds) and about a million+ folks in this area, a medium-sized park geared towards locals could do well. I'm talking about something along the lines of Alabama Adventure or Magic Springs. 3. Prescott, Arizona - Someone took this thought right out of my head. It's been talked about to death already, I know, but you can't ignore the potential for a park near a metropolitan area with a population of 4 million who are hours and hours away from another park. Just an hour and a half drive north and the climate becomes drastically milder. This area is already a recreation destination and could easily attract crowds. 2. Baton Rouge - New Orleans. I know what you're thinking. Six Flags New Orleans and Hurricanes. But Katrina was no ordinary storm, and the location of SFNO was not well planned out. If done properly, a park in between these two large cities could easily be a great success. 1. Houston. This one is a no-brainer. 6 million people. No major park within three or four hours. The population is still mourning the loss of the beloved AstroWorld. Cheap and plentiful acreage on the outskirts of town. An economy that has fared remarkably well through the economic downturn. If EarthQuest Adventures doesn't happen, surely some other developer will put two and two together and build something, because there are some serious profits to be made here. On a side note, I think Las Vegas' best bet would be a water park. Also, Honolulu is a nice thought but wouldn't work for a few reasons. A) Land is FAR too expensive. The attendance would have to match that of the Orlando parks just for the land costs to be recouped. B) Yes, tourism is huge in Hawaii, but people go there to relax in paradise, not ride roller coasters. They can do that on the mainland. C) The locals would not be enough to make it work. Even if every one of the 1.3 million citizens of the whole state visited the park, that probably wouldn't be enough to keep an expensive project like this afloat. But I could definitely see a small water park working. -
