  1. Do not force people who are afraid. If they want to try a ride - ride with them together. I've a friend who isn't a rides person - but he's doing log-flumes and rafting rides. A beginning. On flats he got with us onto the Rotor - a good ride to start cause this has no sudden movements and you simply "stick" to the wall. On coasters he rode with me the Hochschaubahn at Vienna Prater - and he liked it, wanting to do a Zierer Force and Tivoli Rutschebanen next. If he likes Tivolli's Rutschbanen I'll take the subway with him to Bakken... I might also try to get him onto Demonen - a floorless B&M looper - which hasn't the forces of the old woodies. But getting fearful people into anything inverting is another story...
  2. Looking good! Will most likely hit Djurs and Faarup in June...
  3. I think I count 11 inversions on that picture....
  4. US for the huge Intamin coaster installations - while Europe has Expedition GeForce. Europe for everything from Gerstlauer, Mack, HUSS, Mondial, KMG, Technical Park - and of course the portable Schwarzkopf coasters. The best coaster? I'll wait and see how got Smiler is - if it's at least descent, UK will get my vote. The best flats? US parks lack flats, there's nothing better for flats than German carnivals.
  5. After visiting last week I think a Mega-Lite would fit nicely with the Hansa-Park coaster selection. So far they've two looping coasters (Schwarzkopf Loopingracer, Gerstlauer Launched Eurofighter) and 3 family coasters (Vekoma MK-750, Gerstlauer Family, Maurer Wild Mouse). They would profit from a fast non-inverting coaster with lots of airtime.
  6. This years visit to Hansa-Park on a bright spring day with short lines all day. Only in the afternoon it got a little more crowded as the local kids with season passes came in. During the winter two rides were removed - the Sturmvogel (Schwarzkopf Dschunke) and Power Tower (Maurer Drop-Tower). Both were removed for high maintenence cost and downtimes. Entry portal made after the Holstentor in the nearby city of Lübeck Always good to know when you are... Two coasters in one picture First ride of the day was the Schwarzkopf looper Nessie Funtime Star-Flyer soarin high Huss Pirate in the Old Carnival section BHS Metroliner as one enters the Mexican section Funtime Spanish Bell, a low-capacity but very fun ride Die Schlange Von Midgaard as one crosses from Mexico to Vikingland Sign of excellence??? In this case: Yes! There are no faster spinable cups than Zamperla cups! One of the most enjoyable family-coasters around. View from the Midgaard exit to the Maurer mouse Crazy Mine Nerd shot Huss Ranger letting you hang by the thick lapbar upside down View over Mexico Some even took the slides Gladly got three rides in the morning before it broke down for the rest of the day Wild West Town Flowers! In case you've lost your way to Fluch Von Novgorod In the morning I got 4 immediate re-rides. Winning! Heartline Rolls with negative Gs rule! Entwined with Fluch is the older log flume Screamers! I like how they did NOT span nets under the coaster for free photography. But always nice to ride old Nessie in between Huss gyro observation tower Winter was long this year - trees still not green Newer Intamin log flume Note the tipi-like station of the removed Sturmvogel left to Fliegender Hai Right to the Star-Flyer you can see the open foundations of the removed drop tower Fluch and log flume with Baltic Sea in the back Huss Troika with the costum fitted administration building Final ride of the day was a last spin on Nessie
  7. Visiting Hansa-Park yesterday I can report that two rides were removed last Winter: - Sturmvogel (Schwarzkopf Dschunke) - only parts of the station remain, the foundation was filled with cut wood and some flowers - Power Tower (Maurer (?) Drop-Tower) - looked freshly removed with power connectors still lying around open in the foundation
  8. Ejector "Expedition GeForce first drop" like
  9. ^ I liked the Tidbloms Hotel in Gothenburg. Nice family-run midrange hotel - only a few stops by tram to the park. And they've an English Pub in the basement with a wide single malt and international beer selection...
  10. Will hit Fluch Of Novgorod tomorrow to get into this years Gerstlauer/Smiler mood...
  11. Will visit May/June 2014 with Helix finished - spedning days switching back and forth between Helix and Lisebergbanen....
  12. This looks so insanely twisty - can't wait to visit in September.
  13. Teststrecke - Schwarzkopf Double-Loop at the last day of Hamburg Frühlingsdom.
  14. While I think that Phoenix is a great ride it might get unprofitable due to its age someday soon. Something like a Technical Park Loop-Fighter would be a cool replacement. That said I think many US parks I've visited so far lack flats compared to EU parks - they should file some orders at Technical Park, KMG or Huss to stack up the variety.
  15. Not really - translates "Salzburg [sightseeing] roundtrips" The other sign is a little incomplete translated: "Gewinne das Auto!" - would've been right. But I think this would be too close to the current Volkswagen campaign...
  16. Is it already two month since I was in Orlando??? Of course historic bavarian Germany looks like Fantasyland as it was a strong inspiration for Disney - the Cinderella Castle is strongly based upon Castle Neuschwanstein. I visited Epcot on 4 out of my 5 Disney days at least for a few hours: They've the beer!!!
  17. The Schwarzkopf KG cooperated with Intamin on international sales specially in the US as Schwarzkopf was a typically "mid-sized family-owned" company here in Germany. Don't know how much Intamin was involved in the construction of coasters in the US, most likely they had connections to US companies who were able to do some of the steel construction. As far as I know German construction was mostly done on site at the Schwarzkopf plant with much of the steelworks done at BHS. When Schwarzkopf KG went into bancruptcy some engineers founded their own companies like Gerstlauer while others went to Intamin, B&M, BHS and Maurer to support the coaster divisions there.
  18. Had one last night - maybe because I've a flu with some light fever now: I was at Holiday Park on Expedition GeForce but instead of the last three bunnyhops the coaster in my dream featured two inline twists...
  19. I just noted a minor glitch on the park index: Liseberg's Jukebox is not closed. The old Schwarzkopf Monster III was replaced in 2012 by new Gerstlauer Monster by the same name. For pictures see my 2012 Scandi Tour PhotoTR. New Gerstlauer Monster in June 2012 Not beeing 100% sure it could be that the old Jukebox went to Six Flags Mexico as Rock'N'Roll.
  20. Every park with a Monster is a good park. Looks like quite a new version of the Schwarzkopf Monster - either by Wieland or Gerstlauer... Could this be the old monster from Liseberg? The theming looks quite like it. Was the middle figure a jukebox? Liseberg got a brand new monster by Gerstlauer in 2012...
  21. The trains were made by SAT Rides GmbH - they also made the trains for the Boomerang at the Vienna Prater
  22. Only one hour from Hamburg by high-speed train is the city of Bremen which - at the same time of the Hamburger DOM - hosts the Osterwiese. Being a little smaller than the Freimarkt in autumn it offered no major coaster but had some most beauiful rides on the german carnival circuit. First ride of the day was a KMG afterburner A standard portable log-flume by Reverchon which you'll find on many European carnivals The crsip weather notwithstanding people ride it The first highlight is a Mack Seesturmbahn like the Kolumbus-Jolle at Europa-Park - but far more beautifully themed It's the ride with the mermaid! It also has a fountain in the middle - in wamrer weather the operator can spray the riders Yes we Germans like David Hasselhoff! The only coaster here is a standard Mack wild mouse This wild mouse also got it's LED package as lightbulbs are no longer allowed in the EU View down the midway One of the most beautiful Break Dancer - the Happy Traveller with the cocktail umbrellas over the gondolas This unique swinging ship was made by showmen Kalbfleisch in 1978 and is on the carnivals since then The most beautiful Schwarzkopf Monster on german carnivals: Octopussy The whole ride is a paintbrush marvel Even each gondola is individually paintbrushed But what is Octopussy doing here??? Next to all the eyecandy this Monster runs on a great program and the gondolas spin freakingly fast A Jumper still with Easter decoration A self-operated looping swing The most beautful Mack Musikexpress - Troika You want inversions? You get them 55 meters over the ground! A random kiddie ride Note the great backwall painting Final ride of the day is the big Break Dancer No.2 with the cow Waiting for the ride to stop. This Dancer is owned by showmen Dreher - "drehen" translates to "to spin" - a fitting name for a showmen... Thats the last pic from Bremen, folks!
  23. Daemonen at Tivoli as Tornado at Bakken are two of the best of their kind. Daemonen is a B&M with some G-force punch due to its small footprint. And Tornado is one of the most crazy spinners I've ever ridden - there should be more installations of the Intamin spinner.
