Comprehensive Coaster Credit Conversation
MrSum1_55 replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My answers: 1. If alternate universe Storm Runner were built with a completely different layout, then it would count. However, if it is the same Stormrunner as in this universe, it doesn't count. 2. Yes. Defunct credits count. 3. Whizzer and Shockwave are two credits. If you rode them both in any way, they both count as one each. (Does this answer your question?) -
On the last fright fest, Kong had a line going all the way back through the entrance tunnel to the entrance sign. There is no way that that could take any less than 2 hours. The switchbacks in the station alone can take 30-40 minutes. The only other ride with a line that long was Medusa, but it generally has a higher capacity. However, one ride that seems to never have a huge wait is Roar. Probably because, with two trains, a full queue is only a 45 minute wait. I have visited days when the park was PACKED, and Roar had only a 30 minute wait. The reason for this is probably because the wait can appear long, but it is really just one big switchback. I have noticed that switchbacks really do deceive people, as I have noticed rides with long queue stretches but few switchbacks to be viewed as long lines, but small queues with several switchbacks people will often queue for because the line looks short.

^Granted, but the record is for most credit card debt. I wish California could get a (non-painful) airtime machine. -

Comprehensive Coaster Credit Conversation
MrSum1_55 replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One thing I know does not count as a credit, but I have thought about is Intamin 1st gen freefalls. I mean, just about everyone agrees it's not a credit. But, I have never come up with a good explanation as to why they are not credits. I mean, it has a track, an elevator lift, and it does change in elevation and slope. I guess one could argue that it has to go uphill on gravity, but, then again, Batflyers do go uphill. I am not arguing that 1st gen freefalls should count as credits, but I would just like to hear some sort of explanation. Is it only because the manufacterer said it wasn't a coaster, therefore making it not a coaster. What if Intamin did call it a coaster? Then, would we call them coasters today? -
A few years ago, even as soon as last year, I did not view Cedar Fair parks is a very impressive light. Now, I really do believe Ouimet has turned the chain around. Most parks in the chain seem to be getting better, mainly by lowering food prices and getting more ride ops to check restraints. (Now, many Cedar Fair parks have 3-4 ops on more popular rides). Also, like I said before, KD got rid of their no re-rides policy, allowing more potential for a great day. However, the one Cedar Fair that doesn't seem to be getting better is the one we are discussing right now. In fact, I found the food quality at KD at Carowinds to be surprisingly not terrible, but it did seem worse at Dorney. Also, Dorney food prices were higher, unlike the other parks, which I believe lowered them. Like mentioned before, other Cedar Fair parks seem to be removing polices, while Dorney adds them. If there is one good thing I can say about the park, it's that I am glad they were running three trains on Steel Force, even though there were empty rows in the station. (Although, rerides are not allowed). Also, age restrictions do seem a bit unusual, as they are almost unheard of in America. I know little about, and have no power over how things are run at a theme park. But, in my humble opinion, the policies do seem to be a bit overkill. I am no park manager, but I actually do wish I were one so I could know more about how things are run before I judge a park. After visiting all but three CF parks, I actually think DP is my least favorite, mainly due to its policies and major lack of character. But, this is just my opinion. I am not saying you should skip a visit to the park at all, as DP is actually a 'fun' park. However, I wouldn't expect too much in terms of charm.

I have noticed that many Cedar Fair parks have been removing many of their rules and restrictions, except for Dorney Park. For example, last summer at KD, they were not allowing station re-rides. However, this year, they were allowing them. And, at Carowinds, they were allowing 4 adults to ride their Wild Mouse. However, Dorney still enforces both of these rules. It really does feel dissapointing to be kicked off a Steel Force or Thunderhawk train, and watch them leave with 3-5 people on them, while Carowinds will let you ride a coaster as many times as you desire as long as you can find an empty row.

When I visited, it was posted out front that Verbolten would be closed all day. Yet, they were able to open it within an hour and a half of park opening. Applause deserved to whoever did what needed to be done. (I believe the problem had to do with storms in the area). When I read the first article, I ligitametly thought the ride of seemingly simple technology (although drop towers are never actually simple) was going to be closed for an extended period of time, maybe months, or even a full season. I grossly misunderstood the story. Even if that were true, however, that would still be not nearly as large a failure as many other projects in the amusment industry. I guess I owe an admittance of stupidity, or even an apology for that last post I made.

Just replace it with an Intamin tower. The enthusiasts will be happier, and the GP won't know the difference. Although, this may do down in history as one of the biggest fails ever built in the amusment industry. This thing definately wasn't cheap. Although, I guess that is what they get for building a prototype.

This really looks like fun! It is certainly no Intamin, though, even though it looks exactly like an Intamin. All I can say, though is poor Intamin! They came up with the wing rider first, only for B&M to come up with it later, and sell more. Now, they have the launch coasters and mega-lites, of which I believe Mack is ripping off. One thing I have noticed is how companies with noteriety for being unreliable tend to be the more innovative companies, like Vekoma and Intamin, while reliable companies tend to wait for other companies to come up with ideas, only to just build on them? However, since this is the way engineering improves, I guess there isn't anything too negative about this. Yet, I do believe this is something that should be considered.

Mo' Single Lines
MrSum1_55 replied to Lucas The Drummer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
All rides at Carowinds with crowd control. This park may have the worse station crowd control I have ever seen. I rode Nighthawk twice, and they were assigning seats. However, they had multiple empty seats going out on every train. I actually think that there would have been fewer empty seats going out without crowd control. Same for Intimidator. I saw entire rows go out empty, while they were still holding people outside the station. These rides need to bring back their single rider lines, but I would suggest routing them to where the crowd control is set, like Fast Lane is, so all of the empty seats can be filled. If, on Nighthawk, you have six people, what do you do? Call out for a party of two. What do Carowinds ops do? Nothing. Just let two seats go out empty. Thankfully, on both of these rides, they had good crews working them. I232 was running three trains, and Nighthawk was running two trains, and dispatching each one in under three minutes, a rare feat for this type of coaster. This was just about two weeks ago. I do, though, think that every ride, regardless of its type, sould have a single rider line. End of story. -

In 2006, as an enthusiast noob, I found out GCA once had a flying coaster, and I was determined to find and ride that flying coaster. I did. At Carowinds. Last week. -

^^^I think a lot of people would disagree with you on that about I305. I305 has those because it simply could not run those transitions with lap bars, but it is still amazing. However, I do agree with you on Skyrush. It is not the type of ride that should have otsr's. They would not help with comfort that much, and they would limit the feeling of freedom. HP is doing the right thing by not going with otsr's or trims. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
MrSum1_55 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Actually, that analogy should work to people who like it. At least in my case, I like Scott Pilgrim, and everyone I know who has seen it likes it. However, most people who haven't seen it will not watch it, not being able to grasp the fact that it is actually a good movie. Ejector airtime seems to work the same way to many Californians, as they do not know how awesome it is, and, therefore, assume it is not that great and giant loops are better. In fact, if it weren't for Scott Pilgrim's high Rotten Tomatores score (that it deserves), I may have never watched the movie. However, this same website gave Adventureland an 89% (of which I think it does not deserve) In fact, to go back on topic, I really hate movies like FD3 and Adventureland, that depict amusment parks as being unsafe. It really dumbs down people's views on the industry, causing the usual GP 'roller coasters aren't safe!' -
^That is quite nice, considering that, I believe in 2007, I got on the second to last train of the night on Silver Bullet. There were people in line in back of me, but they kicked everybody out of the line at closing. If the ride has to close right at closing, at least put up a rope at the entrance. This was not done. I am really glad to see Knott's cleaning up their act from their past reputation.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
MrSum1_55 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have heard from two different people that they don't like the lap bars on Roar at SFDK, believing them to be painful. They think it should have OTSR's instead. Also, have you ever tried to convince a Californian that the best thing about a coaster is the airtime? It is like convincing someone that Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a movie worth watching. You know you are probably right, but they will never believe you until they experience it. California really needs an airtime machine. -
Viper at SFMM, Monte at Knott's, and (not a coaster) Revolution at Knott's both at the last WCB. Viper was during ERT, but Monte and Revolution I rode just after opening, when all the crowds were still at Ghostrider and Silver Bullet. On Monte, I rode in the back, and I rode Viper in 7:1. Solo rides are always more fun in the back, as you can see all the empty seats as you go through the elements.

The plate movements shifted overnight so there was one landmass again, only, the plates had shifted over the pacific plate, so Asia collided with North America. Now, I could drive to the Chinese border! So, the second closest park to where I live became Happy Valley Beijing instead of CGA. Then, for whatever reason, I decided to get that jungle mouse credit in Mongolia. After this, I drove to Mexico (I must have had an impossibly fast car) and lived out the rest of the dream there.

^Not until the day OSHA realizes their stupidity (which will be never) Coaster and train designers spend hours of their time making sure a design is safe, while the GP-who-happen-to-have-power OSHA get to decide otherwise, even though they probably know nothing about the process. -

Intamin rides have problems? I never knew that before! The ride should have been built by Vekoma. They would have made it so much more reliable. I mean, it's not like they have problems getting seats to stay on a ride or anything.
