  1. I never rode the original Mr Twister, but it is a shame to think about how great the original must of been, and how lame the reconstruction is. When rebuilding the ride, the park should have stuck more with the original plans, like Knoebels did. That is why Knoebels' Twister is awesome, while Elich's is only a shadow of what it could have been.
  2. To me, Kingda Ka is to Dragster as Dinosaur! is to Indiana Jones. The people who have only ridden the first in each group have no idea how much better the second in each group is. Dragster is a very fun ride that is simply very enjoyable. It has one of the best views of any coaster, a forceful launch, is very smooth, and a nice pop of airtime in the back seat. Kingda Ka is very rough, has little no airtime on the top hat, has OTSR's, and the view is a parking lot. To me, the best part of the ride on Kingda Ka is the speed hill toward the front of the train; you can get a descent pop of airtime over it. After hitting the brakes, I had pretty much decided before even arriving at the station that it was the worst of the four American accelerators. (It was the last of the four I rode). I rode once, and, even with a Platinum Flashpass, I had no desire to ride again. I did not even stay on for another ride; one ride gave me enough of a headache! Oh, who am I kidding? Probably 99.99999% of all people on this thread probably had the same experience I did, or rode Dragster next and realized how much better it was. Welcome to America, where the thrill of a ride is based on statistics, and not how the actual experience is. I might even prefer riding S:UF over Kingda Ka.
  3. -Watch the coaster you are queuing for -Take pictures of any coaster you can in line Generally, when I queue for rides, I am more bothered by the concept of a line taking up a large chunk of my day than I am of actually having to wait. I would probably mind waiting 2 hours for a ride in the middle of the day, but, if I hit the line, say, 10 minutes before closing, I do not mind waiting 2-3 hours in line. I can, with relative ease, find plenty of things to do in line. However, the one queuing area that really gets on my nerves is Space Mountain. Not the inside queue, but the outside area. It is on a giant elevated platform, resulting in there being very little to look at or photograph. Every time I wait an hour for it, it feels more like 2 hours. I love most of Disney's queuing areas, just not this one. So, if there are any popular rides with queues that simply do not allow you to see much, hit those rides first. Actually, it would be best to hit the popular rides first anyway, so, really, all I can say is get there early and get in as many early rides as possible.
  4. I still have no idea why they went with no dual load platform, considering that 400 per hour is half the capacity of a zacspin, or most eurofighters. Even a Maurer Skyloop, with 1 train, has a higher capacity than this. SFDK is a medium sized park and it should be noted that no skyloop attraction has ever been installed in a park this size. Austrailia's Dreamworld may be the largest park to install a skyloop, and this park really has very few high-capacity rides. 2 trains might increase the capacity to close to 700 per hour, but, apparently, 400, which is about equal to a 4-lane kraken racer, is enough.
  5. Actually, Kingda Ka appears on many lists as the "best coaster in the world". I really wonder if any of the people compiling these lists have ever actually ridden Kingda Ka. Personally, the rides that scare me the most are Phoenix and Jack Rabbit (have not ridden Cyclops yet), but none of these have very impressive statistics. Really, people want stats, and the people composing these articles are GP writing for a GP audience. It is still pretty shameful that they probably just did a quick search on RCDB to find 4 of those 5 entries. However, one article that I find to be just horrendously ranked I have linked to below. I am not sure if this has been linked on TPR already, but this article ranked Goudrix #49, ranked Mean Streak above Balder, T Express, and Boulder Dash, and ranked Kingda Ka as #1. These are only a few of the major flaws I found in the list. www.complex.com/rides/2011/06/the-worlds-50-best-roller-coasters/
  6. ^^^Also, not to mention that GL is listed as a max thrill, while S:EFK and LL:DOD are listed as moderate thrills. Seriously? The world's tallest drop tower and one of the tallest coasters in the world are deemed "moderate", while a zacSPIN coaster that doesn't SPIN is a max thrill? So, would you call Green Lantern just, well, a zac coaster? Also, does the park really need that long of a delay on the mcbr? I thought the capacity was low enough without that. Only at SFMM would a park reduce capacity in order to not live up to its name as the Xtreme park. Fortunately, I do not think we will be seeing any more of these at SF parks. A simple Sky Loop with a transfer track for 2 train operation would probably have been a better investment for a park like SFMM.
  7. ^There is a copper, a silver, and a gold. What confuses a lot of people is that the copper and the gold can appear to be the same train to those who visit on different days and have a fuzzy memory of the day.
  8. I actually know somebody who went last July, and said he saw all three trains running on Tatsu. Has anyone else actually seen this? Anyway, SFMM will always do the bare minimum they can to run two, rarely three, trains. The crews on X2 and Goliath do the best they can with two trains, but the Mountain really needs some better matinence staff. Last week, I saw the third train on the transfer track, and it appeared to be almost ready for use. However, I do not know if they are just starting or ending rehab. Maybe they actually are planning on using the third train? However, one ride that I really do not understand is Ghostrider at Knott's. Tatsu has three very complicated trains, while Ghostrider has three standard PTC trains. Yet Tatsu only needs to go down to one train for three weeks every few years, while Ghostrider goes down to one train for a few weeks every year. I still think SFMM actually does rehab slightly better than Knott's does, but neither of these parks are really where they should be. A coaster train is a very complex piece of engineering, and every year-around park should either have one more train than the ride can run, or have a fairly large matinence crew. For a park with 17 coasters, neither of these should be difficult to pull off.
  9. China may be the only place where a No Limits noob can get a job in engineering.
  10. ^^Last year I got in a similar situation with a guy who fed on ANY reaction from anyone else. Literally, no matter what reaction I gave, he found a way to take advantage of it. If I said something back, he liked hearing it (for obvious reasons). If I were to say nothing back, he could use the situation to make me look stupid. The only way I could win an argument was if I could make him look stupid (which I actually was able to do several times). However, he would likely be back the next day. The end of the semester didn't result in the end of him. I finished third in my class, and, on a Facebook photo, he posted some pretty nasty comments on me not being number one. (He didn't even finish in the top 33%, that's all I know). So, what do I do now. Well, the best thing to do is accept the fact that words are simply a generation of sound caused by vibration of vocal cords. Can vocal cords vibrating hurt you? No. So, why would you let the thoughts of an idiot get to you. Now, words don't really get to me nearly as much as they used to. Same with words generation as a result of pressing a few keys. So, in reality, when someone is saying something really bad about you, the joke is on them. They are actually revealing weakness, while the words will, ultimately, make you a mentally stronger person. Hope this helps -Grant
  11. ^Viper was running two trains. All rides were, except Batman. Not sure about Goldrusher. Also, did I mention how awesome Colossus was running? I rode in the back, and that may have been the first time I got ejector airtime on the first drop.
  12. I know it's a little late, but I was in the park last week, and here is what I saw: -X2 was usually not stacking -Ninja and Apoc were both running two trains -Batman was still running one train However, I think the biggest news of the day was that Tatsu was actually using both stations! (But with only 2 trains). This meant that they could dispatch a set of trains on the course at once, followed by a 2.5 minute load time before the next set of trains could be sent out. Although this probably slightly increases the capacity over running two trains through one station, I think a much better system would be to run two trains through one station, but have 4-6 ride ops checking restraints in that one station. To run the ride through two stations takes a total crew of eight ride ops, so why not just send to four ride ops in the other station to the other station? Tatsu could be a really efficient ride with 4-6 ride ops.
  13. ^It's all hidden under a bench. You just missed it.
  14. Over a decade ago I went to Disneyland with my family on cheerleader day. Due to bad weather, (small showers) the park wasn't crowded at all! Too bad I was a too young at the time to realize what a perfect day that was.
  15. ^Hourly capacity= (3600/per second dispatch rate)*number of people a train can hold. Green Lantern is just over two minutes long, but let's assume 2:30 just to be safe (actually, this is the length RCDB has listed). This means that, running two trains, the capacity of Green Lantern is at least 672 per hour. However, with a third train, the MCBR is located about 90 seconds into the course. If the trains can dispatch right as the MCBR is cleared, the capacity is increased to 1120 per hour. Riddler's Revenge's has a duration very similar to GL's, but has a higher theoretical capacity due to having 8-car trains. SFGAdv may need their third train more in the summer months, but SFMM definitely needs the third train in the winter months; SFGAdv can manage 90-150 second dispatches, while, during the winter months, SFMM gets about one train loaded every 4-6 minutes. When I visited in August, all three trains were running, and were being cycled very consistently. I believe the ride was being run to its full capacity, whether it is 1100 or 1500. Right next to GL, Superman had to deal with 4-5 minute dispatches with two trains. I can probably say that there will come a year when SFMM will need their train more than SFGAdv does. Maybe now now, but this will probably be true a few years down the road.
  16. ^Because SFMM can run only one train on Riddler's for several months out of the year, wheras SFGAdv can run three trains the entire year. Now, SFMM probably needs a third train just as much as SFGAdv does. It really annoys a lot of people to have a 2 hour wait with one train running. While Great Adventure can easily pull 1500 per hour, SFMM struggles to hit 500 per hour, and usually gets much lower than that.
  17. I was eight when this happened, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was eating dinner with my parents, and suddenly my dad turned around to notice a blot of ketchup on the opposite wall. Of course, being the only child, my parents immediately turned to me, since I was the one who carried the ketchup over to the table. Although, I simply carried it directly to the table, and nowhere else. I never spilled it, and the table was a good 5 feet away from the wall. How could it have gotten there? Also, all the time, I hear stories of my toys that would go off in the middle of the night when I was very young, but they would walk into my room to find me sound asleep. If religion, heaven, hell, ghosts; etc all exist, then I believe they do in higher dimensional space. Deceased souls are living in same universe we are, it is just a 4D world that our 3D universe is a part of. Likewise, ghosts can enter our 3D world and randomly appear in rooms undetected, as a 4D creature could probably do.
  18. I am currently working on my letter to the council. In addition to the points brought up, I also plan to mention the closures of Geauga Lake and SFKK. I hope to get it done soon, but I may not be able to until Monday. (When is the final voting session?) If anyone else plans to write to the mayor and council, I would love to see someone bring up GL and SFKK, considering how these parks closed, at least in part, due to a lack of new rides.
  19. I have never ridden either, but I can say that consistency means more than numbers. Inferno probably pulls its maximum G force in a place like the bottom of the first drop. For example, SFMM's Goliath pulls nearly 5 G's. You would think this would be in the famous helix of death, but it is actually at the bottom of the first drop. The "helix of death" pulls only 3-3.5 G's, but it is sustained for a long period of time. B&M rides used to be known for their consistency, but, now that they are designing rides to be lass intense, they are known for the opposite
  20. Okay, I have joined! I have quite a ways to go in terms of rasing donations, but I have my donations page up here.www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/grantber/KnottsBerryFarm http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/grantber/KnottsBerryFarm I may be one of the youngest fundrasers, but I would really like to make a difference!
  21. What I also do not understand is why a stadium is permissable, but a coaster isn't. Stand half a mile away from a stadium, and you might even hear some screams when a field goal happens. Stand half a mile away from an amusment park, and what will you hear? Absolutly nothing. Not even S:EFK can be heard from outside the park or parking lot. Also, if I recall correctly, the psyclone bay bathrooms are quite close to Apocalypse. Inside them, you can barely hear coaster trains flying by, and even then you almost have to listen for it. Even if the noise from this coaster is a problem, another factor to consider is that the capacity is 840 per hour, meaning trains cannot be cycled faster than once every two minutes. If I worked right next to a GCI wood coaster in a small shack, a faint noise every two minutes would not significantly distract the amount of work I could get done. In fact, if I worked in an office building 150 feet away from the coaster and next to the window, I would be far more distracted watching the coaster than by the noise it makes. (Maybe that's the real problem)
  22. ^^^Or maybe it is just a publicity stunt. At Knott's the back door of the TGI Fridays is located right next to the far turnaround of Ghostrider. With my party, I sat at a table close to the back door, and not once did I hear the sound of a single train. Now, this was in a resturant, so the echoing must have masked some of the noise. But, really, the TGI Friday's is probably less than 50 feet away from the coaster. Here, you are talking three times that distance, and still indoors. Also, the walls of an office building must be much thicker than those of a standard TGI Fridays. I will bet that the only reason this company is complaining is for a publicity stunt. If they really think an almost undetectable increase in noise is worth going throught that much trouble, then I believe someone should send a letter to the main Prudential headquarters in Newark. Maybe I should do that...
  23. -Two of your favorite vacation spots are Ohio and New Jersey -When you hear the word "sexy", you have to resist to ask which Intamin coaster the person is talking about. -People who do not know you are a coaster nerd think you have a cardboard personality. -You still play RCT, despite everyone else thinking you are too old for that. -You spend hours sinply making sure the coasters you designed in No Limits have the perfect amount of G forces you want, even after you think you are done Sorry, I can't resist posing in this thread; it is really one of my favorites.
  24. ^Going through life loving people, but never having anybody love you back. What's worse than RCT4 being developed by LJN?
  25. My only question is why is a real-estate company opposing this project so much? If they actually own real-estate in the area, wouldn't that small increase in noise be beneficial to local real-estate? With a new investment, wouldn't value of local land increase? "I could do nothing and take advantage of this potential increase in profits, but I would rather go through a bunch of legal work to make sure the value of my land stays the same"
