Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
MrSum1_55 replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best: -Phantom's Revenge (airtime right down to the last second) -Space Mountain (DLR) One thing I really like about this version is the progression. It seems to get more intense as the ride goes on, with the last few turns being the most intense. I still prefer the WDW version, though. Worst: -X2: The finale is by far the most brutal part of the ride -Great Bear: The finale may be the fault of the location, but the ride just seems to slowly meander back to the station, even though the train is actually still moving at a descent speed. What I also don't understand is why they put the photo section on the brake run, as the turn into the brake run is by far the weakest part of the ride. Also, another finale I am not a fan of is that of the Batman clones. The final turn seems to be the weakest turn on the ride. I do love the rest of the ride, but it has always seemed to me that the final turn should be something like an upward helix. -
^It looks like the park is starting to run one train on some rides, depending on the crowds. This is just shameful, as I visited once in December 2009, and the park was completely dead, with empty rows on all rides except X2, but they had 2 trains running on all coasters. The park can only head in the wrong direction from here. Also, according the Screamscape, the "no inversions" sign may not mean " do not let the ride flip at all", but it actually may mean "make sure the ride does not get stuck upside down at the end". Whatever problem they are having, this sign may be an attempt to find a solution.
-
"Avoid inversions" Translation: "Make sure the ride doesn't do anything it was intended to do" Seriously? You can't even let it flip at the end? Only at SFMM. In fact, now, I would actually be glad to see GL get shipped to another park in the chain. This ride would easily work better at a small park, who could actually market it as a star attration, and might actually let it spin. Additionally, the crews move quite slow for an already low capacity ride. It only represents a blemish on SFMM's already bad reputation. Green Lantern is like the Dorney Wild Mouse of zac spins. Well, as low capacity as it will be, LL:DOD will be amazing.

One thing to note about Jublee days: plan them well. If you go for the rides, I would suggest literally running from ride to ride, because the crowds will start out medium-large after opening, but become insane as the day goes on. Yet, with these events, you never know. It could start out like a summer's day at opening.

^I did download the file and do some work on Zone 2. Should I upload the new file to the game exchange? I could post some pictures of the progress I made, but the main factors were Terminal Velocity (Intamin Junior Hyper) and Woodchip (kiddie wood coaster). -
^I am pretty much in exactly the same situation with exactly the same beliefs. I will send anyone $50 who can give me ONE good reason for making gay marriage illegal. And the fact that coversion therapy sometimes works does not count. It really only works 10% of the time. Well, actually, if you send me a good reason, you won't get your cash. Intolerant people don't deserve a random $50.

If there is any coaster that should have been a prefab from the minute planning started, it's SOB. Although it is possible that, at the time it was being considered, the concept of a Prefab had not been introduced. In fact, I could see a prefab going up in SOB's spot, as the ride takes up an insame amount of space, and a giant woodie could easily be built. A prefab costs about the same amount of cash to build, but costs less to maintain and has higher capacity than a standard wood coaster. (Most GCI's pull less than 900 pph, while El Toro, with just two trains, can pull up to 1500 pph) Then again, they could use the NTAG treatment. Either way, I am sure no one will be dissapointed, and there is no way whatever they are putting there can be worse than SOB. -
^YES! Knott's really needs to scrap that. The capacity is just horrific. Why it takes a crew of two rides ops 7 minutes to check 24 seats each with an OTSR and a seatbelt is beyond me. And, the park cannot even bother to run more than one boat, (even during the summer), resulting in extremely long waits. In fact, in my many visits to Knott's, I have not gotten a single picture of Perilous in action, only because the cycles were so infrequent, I became impatent waiting for one boat to pass. I would not miss it if it were removed tomorrow. It is nothing more than a lawn ornament to me.

^^If the trains are replaced, then I do believe we will more likely see Intamin trains than those by Premier or something like the SDL trains, for a few reasons: 1. The park will likely want the keep using OTSR's, so the Intamin I305 straps make the most sense, under these conditions. 2. Intamin originally worked on the ride, along with Anton 3. New Intamin trains may have been hinted at WCB 2011. (Considering the "restraint gag")
-
^I have ridden Firehawk. Although the restraints are surprisingly comfortable, there is one main problem with them. The restraints consist of an upper chest-belt and a lap bar. The problem is most people tend to secure the chest belt first. Once this is done, most people cannot reach the lap bar, meaning the ride op has the pull it down for them further reducing the capacity. Additionally, the ride ops are required to check each restraint twice, not once. Before a train can be dispatched, the checking process has to be repeated again. However, one issue with staffing I have little understanding of is the use of dual loading. It takes at least 6-8 ride ops to run a coaster with two stations. Instead of dual loading, why not just have four ride ops checking restraints in one station? That would actually require less staff, and could be more efficient.
-
^I also had doubts about this. If this was really the reason, then why not, add a trim brake on the long slope before the loop. They did trim the top, but they could also trim the slope. I wonder if that was one of the purposes of the long slope in the first place; not just to build suspense, but also in case the G pull was too strong, and it needed a trim brake on it.

Stealth, overall, was just a bad idea to send to a smaller park. Sure, it had capacity issues, but I wouldn't completely blame Vekoma for that one. If your crews are pulling 5 minute dispatches (like they still do on Firehawk all the time), it may be time to increase the size of the crew. Thankfully, the newer versions were installed with dual load platforms. (Although I have never heard of SFA using theirs). What CGA should have done was build a B&M floorless. It would cost about the same, but it would have higher capacity, be easier to hit the capacity, and, CGA would have been able to build it over 150 feet, so it could have been marketed as "taller and faster than Medusa". This would give GCA the upper end in the eyes of the GP, and, thus, they might not be the struggling park they are now. Really, capacity is what you make of it. The slowest dispatches I have ever seen occurred on Racer at Kennywood. First, the trains would arrive in the station. Then, a few fastpass riders would be let in. This was followed by filling the station (which takes a few minutes due to the older design of the station; they can't start filling the station until the trains are in it). So, 2-3 minutes have already gone by before the restraints have even started to be checked. Then, ONE ride op (not one for each train but ONE ride op) would slowly check both trains. The whole process took 6-7 minutes for each set of trains. Then, since two trains were running, that meant one train for each side, adding yet another two minutes on the dispatch time. So, you could be the next person in line, and still have nearly 10 minutes to go. This is one example of how, in fact, parks can control capacity. Stealth's problem was likely more maintainence issues than capacity.

All I can say is one thing: Dammit! I visited twice and never got my credit. I was just planning a trip to go next summer, and was planning on finally getting it. Oh, and why not move it to GCA? It is desperate enough for a new coaster. Imagine if the park got TWO new coasters for 2013? -
To answer the Tatsu crew debate. Yes, Tatsu does have its good days. However, I have never been there when it has had any. I keep reading reports of no stacking on Tatsu. Yet, whenever I go, there is stacking on most cycles. Sure, there are some good days, but what really matters is consistancy. Hell, the whole park in general has 'good days' and 'bad days'. When the bad days start to out number the good days, you have a problem. Operations are generally slightly better than before, but, in terms of overall cleanliness, the park is about 50/50 in terms of good and bad days, and is probably going to head in the wrong direction. I will give the park a little bit of credit for improving its dispatch times on a few rides, but nothing else.
-
The park is in a session of which it isn't going to get any more family-friendly. Don't get your hopes up that it is. It is not going to happen. SFMM is never going to get a dark ride, the park is unlikely to get any cleaner, and, ultimately, we will not be seeing any movements that could be considered improvements. The station timers are, sadly, the best thing the park has installed in the past few years. Most of the time, only the crews of X2 and Goliath actually make somewhat of an effort to send out the trains before the timer runs out, and even these crews can have 'off' days. Does anyone know if X2 has its second train back? It actually can get descent capacity with two trains and a good crew. So, what we have now are slightly improved dispatch times on a few rides in exchange for a lack of care in the park atmosphere that will only revert it back to the early 2000's. In fact, the park might as well restore the twilight admission discount, if they really want the true SFMM 'old days' experience.

1. How is MF that much more original than Levi? The only thing MF does that Levi doesn't is the funky helix after the third hill, but even this feels more like another overbanked turn, even though it technically isn't overbanked. 2. So, you are saying that it would be less similar to Behemoth by adding a helix? So what you are saying is, it will be less like Behemoth by making it more like Behemoth? 3. The brake run was probably a capacity factor. Why did they not add a drop off the run into the final, "real" brakes? I don't know. All I can say is B&M knows more that you or I do. When it comes to the brake run, I will probably just give B&M the benefit of the doubt, because these guys know how to design a coaster, and they must know what they are doing. -
