I am just hoping that whatever goes in PP's spot is something more compact, as the ghost town has already been stained enough with Silver Bullet. I think the biggest dissapointment about Bullet was that they made almost no attempt to theme it to the area. I wish they had just painted the tracks brown, leaving the supports silver. Also, the trains should have been silver as well. One change of color could have saved this ride from completely ruining an area of the park; it would only partially have ruined it. If Knotts is building a giant giga coaster, I hope they keep the footers out of the ghost town.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

Me: I prefer not to go on Boomerang at Knott's. It hurts your head a bit too much. GP: No, it doesn't. -
New Amusement Park planned for... Tracy, CA?
MrSum1_55 replied to XYZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At this point, nothing is known of how much will be invested into the "amusement park" section. It could easily be a ferris wheel and a couple of rides, or they could invest nearly half the project into the theme park. Although, how much do mega hotel resorts cost? If after the plans for the hotel-casino-racetrack complex projects are completed, they still have $300-$500 million left of the $1.2 billion, it is safe to assume they are building a real amusement park. Any less and we would probably end up with a smaller fun complex. From this point on, I will jump to more conclusions when more details are released. -
CA is spoiled by quantity, but not at all by quality. It is almost humorous that in the state with the most coasters and theme parks, the steel coaster wih the most airtime is 30 feet tall. Second place goes a coaster at a Disney park. In terms if wood coasters, the best one in the entire state is at small seaside park with two adult coasters. With how many coasters there are in California, there is no way every coaster can be a world class coaster. However, that certainly doesn't mean there should be no world class coasters.* SFMM is the park with the most coasters in the world making them the worst offender. I will most likely be disappointed by Full Throttle. *An exception may be made to that statement IF Ghostrider gets a full refurbishment, as in topper track on the entire ride, and new trains.

PTC trains mangle tracks quite a bit. I will admit I am a fan of PTC 3-bench trains (particularly with buzzbars), but I am surprised it took so long for a company like GCI to come up with a lighter design. What is a bit ironic is that CGI based their design for Millennium Flyers on older wood coaster train designs (I believed they based them off Prior and Church train designs, but I could be wrong) I do hope that just because they get massive improvements doesn't mean that they will stop continually maintaining it. Even Roar at SFDK has started jackhammering quite a bit lately, and it is probably the roughest GCI to have opened with the Millennium Flyers. Even these magic trains do not have permanent effects. Assuming GR gets Timberliners, I hope these things can hold up as well or better.

I think I would be willing to give up Scream, and I can see why some people believe it could be removed. Scream is viewed as an afterthought attraction at SFMM, even though it could easily be a star attraction at another park. I think it would be a hit at SFStl or SFA. I would actually be glad to see it go, only because its new home would probably treat it better. I just hate to see a giant B&M rotting away in a parking lot in a forgotten corner of a park.

New Amusement Park planned for... Tracy, CA?

Well, since they were building this close to Stockton, I think I know the park itenerary: Rides: Gang Wars (Gravity Group dueling coaster): Pick a side, red or blue, on this twisted wood coaster adventure as you race the rival gang to see who can reach the station first! Hiding Dealers (Vekoma mine train): Quick! They have found crack stored in the train! Go on this family mine train adventure as you tunnel rapidly through a mountain to find a hiding spot from the cops. Rush (Vekoma SLC): This design is usually painful, but that is not a problem here! Free crack dispenses are given out while waiting in line, so riders will feel no pain! First Offenders(Roller Skater): Young kids than embark on this cute kiddie coaster with its excellent theming package. Riders will travel through the broken windows of an apartment building, as if it is the first offense! Drive-by (Sally Shooting Dark Ride) Embark on this one of a kind shooting adventure as you travel through banks and police stations. Whoever shoots the most targets wins! And the fun doesn't end there! Also try our signature loaded sandwiches, also available with a side of a bullet baked potato. I am going to Hell. -

Cool. Not going to happen. As the recent past has shown, NorCal can barely support two medium sized parks, let alone another huge one. Alhough Tracy is in somewhat reasonable distance of Sacramento, San Jose, and San Francisco, all of these cities already have parks that are closer (excluding Sacramento; I believe SFDK is about the same distance away as Tracy.) Apparently, they want this to be "Disneyland North". Not to offend anyone, but, with the nearest major city being Stockton, I think they are more likely to be the "Magic Mountain North". -
Favorite Coaster Sounds
MrSum1_55 replied to TheAmazingCP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The sound of when Intamin inverted coasters launch, and the silence of an Intamin cable lift. -
IMO, holding brakes are a usually a gimmick that doesn't work. Most of the impulse coaster holding brakes give you a painful jolt, but do not hold you up there long enough to realize how high you are. I am actually glad SFDK doesn't use theirs, as I simply do not find being jolted into the restraints fun. On another note, what about that crazy halfpipe-impulse combo that is being built in China? That might make for a fun ride. Of course, neither of these designs will ever be better than Monte. They would have to replace it with a Mega-Lite to make me welcome it's exit, and even then I would still miss it after it closed. Edit: wait, I just came up wih a new idea. What about an impulse shuttle loop? Like an impulse with a loop in it.

Also, I might prefer to ride a dive machine without the holding brake, mainly because the brake kills any sense of being whipped down the drop you may get. I do think a giga would please the GP quite a bit (Goliath's drop is legendary in the area, but it is one of the weakest hyper coaster drops, IMO). The GP and enthusiasts alike would be more satisfied with a giga, but a dive machine is considerably cheaper than a giga, so it might be better in terms in bang for buck.

I'm not the biggest dive machine fan, but, for $15 million (the price of Griffon), it seems like a good deal for a ride this height. Also, it would be cool if Knott's could fork up a few extra million and make it longer than all the others. However, if you are going to get into a price tag that high, you might as well go for something major, like an Intamin hyper or giga. A dive machine would be cool, but I would rather see California's first non-painful airtime machine be built. Dive machines are good for the drop, but, once that is over, the rest of the ride feels like just a typical B&M looper. But, that is only my personal opinion. From an economic standpoint, a dive machine would probably work very well for the park, and bring something unique to California.

I would bet money that the next coaster this park builds will be a family coaster, particularly toward back of the park. Now that Pandemonium is gone, there is no longer anything to bridge the gap between Cobra and any of the major coasters. Right now, they have the "post BBW, pre-Verbolten BGW" syndrome, where they had kiddie and major coasters, and not much in between. Verbolten bridged that gap beautifully, and I wish more parks had a Verbolten type ride. No, scratch that. EVERY park could use a Verbolten type ride, although SFDK is among the park that could use a ride like this the most. An animal theme on a launcher like that would work extremely well.

^^I can see how removing Stealth sounded like a good idea at the time. It was unrealiable, and SFDK had just finished adding several coasters year after year for the past few years. The park decided not to compete with Six Flags, in order to be more family friendly. So, they built Boomerang Bay, which was more a success than Stealth. However, I do still wonder if it would have been better for the park in the long run if they kept Stealth. My reasoning is that, after 2003, Six Flags decided to take the family-friendly route as well. Before S:UF, I saw many advertisements for SFDK that featured few to no coaster shots, instead just animals. With these advertisements, it is clear they were advertising for a family environment, and, after this season, I could easily see them going back to the old ways of commercials. on the other end, now most of GCA's commercials feature coasters in them. CGA may not have been desperate for a new coaster at the time, but attendance has fallen so much that they are now one of the most desperate parks needing a new coaster. And, thankfully, they are getting one, now. And, in terms of capacity issues, it does seem like Carowinds did work out the bugs with this ride. The four ride ops they had were only stacking for 10-15 seconds! I am sure the supervisor crews on stealth did their best with what they had, but you really do need a big crew to run one of these things, which it doesn't seem like Paramount was willing to provide to PGA. Also, Carowinds did solve the issues of baking in the sun, with a covered final block brake, complete with fans. Although BoomerangBay was a hit, I do wonder if keeping Stealth would have helped in the long run.

I have gotten airtime in the back of TTD, but never KK. Although, I have ridden KK once, in row 3, and I got far more airtime on the brakes hill than the tophat. Unfortunatly, the hills fail to pull you over like Xcelerator or Stormrunner. It would be wicked if they could make a strata with as much airtime over to tophat as either of these.

Writing conflicting posts does not work that way. You cannot rant about something several people are doing, and expect to just be able to change the topic when you say so. And no, saying you do not want to start a flame war and continuing to post on the topic does NOT mean it is not your fault. Also, have you noticed you are the only one arguing your side? Although, the dicussion may soon have to end, as it is difficult to conflict a flaming post without writing a flaming post. This post may bring the discussion to an end. And, about the Superman discussion, is it the right side? The right side has always seemed to go higher in park history.

^^Actually, the proximity with the parking lot actually makes it seem less tall, because the only view is a parking lot, trees, and a highway. Since there isn't much to compare your height with, it does not seem as tall as it is. Also, it goes slow enough over the hophat to not provide airtime, but fast enough so that is is over quickly. You should be fine.

Sorry; I just had to put this here. It may sound like a reasonable post by itself, but after viewing the previous comments, it does not seem like a fair response.

The problem is that this thing should never have been sold to a year-around park. PP might work at a seasonal park where they can run two boats the entire year, but, even with two boats, the capacity can be quite low. When it was running one boat (like it did most of the time at Knott's) you could get stuck in a 1-2 hour wait while everything else was a walk-on. I like to take pictures of rides (even though I haven't posted a photo tr in a while), and I have never gotten a good picture of this, mainly because the cycle times would take too long, and I would become inpatient for a boat to come along. Although the down time may be comparable to a Flying Dutchman, all three of them are among the most popular rides in all of the parks they are located in. This is simply a boat ride. I do not believe it would be justified to relocate it to a park. However, if they moved it to a Cedar Fair water park. This might work, considering the low capacity. It may be low, but, compared to most water slides, it is not bad.

I have not ridden yet, but I hope to not be denied a row when I request the front. In some cases, assigned seating can actually be a blessing in disguise. It keeps waits for the front shorter, which is a good thing, assuming you are not denied. Or, if the people assigning seats are as bad as the staff at Carowinds, they may leave rows empty, resulting in the possibility of a re-ride. On I232, I managed to get in five rides in a row while there was a line down the stairs, mainly because seat assigners kept leaving several rows empty. (They let you ride again if your row is empty, or if you can find an empty row. Most parks will let you do this as long as there is no SR line)
