Personally, I think the best aspect of this announcement BY FAR was the whole "I call fake...oops, maybe not!" Just my $.02 -

^ I don't know why, Paul, but somehow I find your response indescribably comical. Perhaps it was the unspoken "Chew on that, b*tch" stuck on the end of your post (ok, so it was my off-kilter sense of humor that put it there...so what?)... Pete "the gator got punked" FourWinds -

I can almost see it now. The TPR 2008 trip will be to Hedonism 3 in Jamaica (hey, it's totally a legit TPR trip - it's got that through-the-disco waterslide). -

Sniff...yup...smells like shi...I mean preach...I mean...I think that crackling sound is the soapbox about to collapse. It's just a little harmless fun. I'm sure their parents are fully capable of parenting and deciding on their own what's appropriate behavior or not, and I'm CERTAIN the various mods and admins here are equally capable of deleting those posts that truly ARE inappropriate. Seeing as how it's still on the boards, I wouldn't effin' worry about it... I'd be curious to see how you feel about some random yaya questioning your parenting methods. Besides, does the disclaimer on the main page not say, and I quote: Disclaimer! You need a sense of humor to view our site, if you don't have a sense of humor, or are easily offended, please turn back now! -

Is this a coaster?
pete4winds replied to philcoaster83's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
On the one hand, having a lift hill in and of itself doesn't necessarily make a coaster (plenty of dark rides have "lift hills" - yeah, I know it's a stretch, but it's still a fact), but on the other hand, NOT having one doesn't necessarily make a NON-coaster (Ka, anyone? No lift hill there). Most people seem to agree that it's a matter of perspective and personal choice. Me, I'd vote this as a coaster, onboard brake or not, because it certainly meets all the "standard" requirements, but I agree with Golfie that alpine SLIDES, while a blast, are not coasters in the classic sense. Oh, look...200th post. Yay... -

Great Bear - location, location, location... Raptor is a very close second, and GADV's Batman BEFORE the "Nitro's-little-brother" paintjob and non-theming is third. -
Obviously you didn't see in the article where it said the girl had a history of heart trouble. People with a "history" of any medical condition do indeed know about it. That's how a history is established. An example from my own family. My mother was a big coaster fan until she had neck surgery a few years back. She has titanium pins in her neck now, and although her neck is structurally stronger than before her surgery (even stronger than in its natural state), she really doesn't ride much anymore, if at all. Why? Because she pays enough attention to her own health to know that there's the chance, however slight, that something could go wrong. The point? She knows the condition exists, just like in this case. This is a truly sad situation, but in most of the other cases this year, those conditions were unknown. Unfortunately in this case, it seems (at least according to the article) that the condition was known and ignored.

Questions about SFNE!!
pete4winds replied to canada's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll add my $.02... If you have the chance to "choose" which SROS train you're going to ride, take the red one. In my experience, it's a much faster ride. General consensus is that this is due to the fact that the blue train is usually used for single-train ops and thus experiences much more wear and tear. -
Most comfortable?
pete4winds replied to thrillrideseeker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you have to add the justifying phrase "...after standing in line for a couple of hours...", are the seats really the most comfortable or are you just tired to the point where the electric chair would be comfortable? -
Part deux: A self-portrait...errrmmm, rather, the requisite food-related photo. Black & White, a blues trio playing on the main stage earlier in the evening. Total footchopper action on the swings by the side of the warehouse. I so wanted this bad boy to go over. Yeah, I know it's not really possible, but they had it crankin'... Dude, it's TOTALLY a credit, if only to legitimize this PTR. OOOOHHH!!! A CREDIT!!! The little girl in front says so, anyway.

Got back about an hour ago ago from Fall River Celebrates America here in, where else? Fall River. Pretty good time. It's the fourth since we moved here (we moved in on the FRCA weekend in 2003 - it was absolute chaos), but our first time attending. It's a bit more than just a carnival, more like a multi-cultural festival, but it certainly has plenty of carnival elements, as you'll see. We spent the first half of our visit doing the carnie thing and snapping photos, and since the main entrance to the festival is only three blocks from the house, we walked back and got camp chairs for the Taylor Dayne concert. I was never a big fan of hers, being the Iron maiden/Testament/Anthrax guy, but oddly enough I did remember enough of her music to enjoy the show. We ended up taking off about halfway through the show since there was a surprisingly chilly breeze coming off the river, but the proximity of the stage to our house allowed us to hear the rest of the show from the living room. The photos are from the first part of the night. Since I take photos with my camcorder, and it doesn't have a flash, there are no photos of the Taylor Dayne show, but enjoy what's here! Again, more of the usual. The usual carnival stuff. More kiddy rides. ...and a cheesy kid-sized Super Slide. Yup, they have a Zipper. Another of the bungee trampoline, in front of the Carousel. This kid was pretty good. Bungee trampoline. Artsy backlit ferris wheel photo.

In the overall best restaurant/food category, I'm casting my vote for Tudor Grill or Freeman's BBQ at Hershey. Teppanyaki Dining Room at EPCOT World Showcase: Japan gets my vote for best-themed restaurant. It may not be the best representation of Japan, but in my eyes it's the best fit to its themed area. Must-try individual dish: Seasoned skillet potatoes and, of course, the turkey legs at Canyon Turkey Legs, Crackaxle Canyon, SFNE. Absolute best-overall food item? The free samples at the end of Hershey's Chocolate World (this is my light-hearted portion of this post, but in all seriousness, how could you possibly go wrong with free Mr. Goodbar samples?)...

Since there was a big discussion about Zippers recently, as noted in this thread, Fall River Celebrates has one this year. Thought you all might like to know. Expect a PTR this weekend or early next week! For those who are not familiar with it, Fall River Celebrates is a big annual waterfront festival/fair that attracts world famous (albeit a little outdated) performers - example: Taylor Dayne is the headliner this year. It's held mainly at and around Fall River Heritage State Park, which is the current home of the old Lincoln Park Carousel (PTC #54) which I PTR'ed here. If anyone is planning on going this year, shoot me an email. I live all of four blocks away.
