Lower Airfare to Europe
pete4winds replied to carolinacaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That being the case, this might be more at home in the "Random" thread. Although, this does sound like it might make European credit whoring MUCH easier for those of us who can't dump all of our money into TPR trips. -
When I saw that this thread had arisen from the dead, I did a quick "ugly sports jersey" search on Google, and found THESE gems: All these and more can be seen here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&t=23997 Knoxville Speed's tribute to the WWF's "Sparky Plugg"!!! Landshut Cannibals '97-'98. Sponsorship-infested AND un-PC!!! San Antonio Iguanas Thanksgiving '00-'01. Yup, it's a turkey, alright! Louisville Riverfrogs '97-'98...sure, if you're into wearing snot rags! Seattle Thunderbirds' '00 " '70's Night" jersey...peace, love, and get me the eff outta here! Las Vegas Thunder '96-'97 Valentine's Day jersey...dude, are you KIDDING ME??? As a Native American AND a combat veteran, to me this Spokane Chiefs "Armed Forces Commemorative" just says OUCH! But the same Laredo Bucks fail miserably with this luau reject. S'posed to be fireworks. On the other hand, this Laredo Bucks Hallowe'en jersey totally rocks! Orlando Seals Christmas jersey...ouch. CHL Topeka Scarecrows '00-'01 alternate. Didn't know Freddie efin' krueger played hockey! CHL's Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees' blatant ripoff of Star Wars Shop's totally cool Vader hockey jersey, complete with Aurabesh on the sleeves.

Photo TR: A Great Visit to Six Flags New England
pete4winds replied to FlyerACE1's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ One could argue that since bats sleep upside down, those signs are technically correct... Always nice to see the home park consistently regarded as one of the best in the chain! Great TR, although I'm a little meh about the Wiggles in general. -
I'm totally setting myself up for lots of hate and discontent, but imma hafta say Viper at GADV. Yes, my "most missed ride" is a Togo Death Machine...what does that say about me?

Awesome TR! All that park needs is a "Mule" hovercraft and you have pretty much every Firefly episode all in one place! Oh, and THIS guy below looks like my paternal great-grandmother! -

^ Not likely. Torrential rain is not all that uncommon around here this time of year, and I'm sure ANY business along the Connecticut River (including Six Flags) has some kinds of safeguards in place. The river rises dramatically fairly often, so I seriously doubt SFNE is facing any longterm problems.

Lake Compounce Discussion Thread
pete4winds replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Personally, I fail to see how this place would survive WITHOUT the sarcasm. It's one of the defining features of TPR. -
"Whatever comes along..."??? My hero!!! I used to be all into "whatever comes along," but these days I'm pretty much stuck in the inescapable pit of...wait, lemme rephrase...I'm married. I guess if I HAD to classify myself, I'd say emotionally straight and physically bi...if that makes sense.

What Happens If You Drink A Coke Right Now?
pete4winds replied to LcHg5265's topic in Random, Random, Random
The source that I got it from links back to another website, which is a health blog. You can see the credentials of the "staff" here... http://healthbolt.net/about/ Seems credible to me... Credible? My first thought would be...um...NO. Any thoughts as to why? Let's see now: "Senior editor/head writer" Wade Meredith is a comedian whose FAMILY includes medical professionals. Three of my mother's sisters are nurses...does that mean I'm ready to run out and start performing surgery? Hardly. Oh, and I almost forgot...everyone on staff is the aforementioned family. Asistant editor/contributing writer Melynda Meredith: The senior editor's WIFE, she's in her fourth year of dentistry school. OK, so there's medical training involved, but one, it's DENTAL, and two, she hasn't graduated yet. Would you want financial advice from a business school TRAINEE, or perhaps (to put it in terms we'll all understand), would you ride Goliath if it had been designed by someone STILL in engineering school? Assistant editor/contributing writer Virginia Brackett: OK, we've reached our first actual Doctor...however, this senior editor's MOTHER holds her doctorate in ENGLISH!!! She also holds a degree as a medical technician, but 'ell if I know what level that degree is, and exactly what kind of qualifications does a medical technician have to GIVE medical advice...aren't they the people who always say "let me get the doctor to answer that for you..."??? Contributing writer Shandra Chapman: The senior editor's SISTER is an assistant race director for a company that organizes triathlons. Probably pretty knowledgable in areas relating to general health and conditioning, but I imagine your average baseball player is pretty informed in that respect, too. Are you going to ask Manny Ramirez what to do about that pain in your chest? Probably not. Consultant William R. Meredith: OK, finally a medical doctor. The senior editor's FATHER probably knows his stuff, but he's an opthalmologist...an EYE surgeon. I realize all medical doctors go through the same training, but once one specializes, they generally stick with that specialty. Would you want the exhaust specialist at your garage fixing your brakes? Doubt it. Go to the brake specialist. Knowledgable? As a group, probably. Credible? Thanks, but no thanks. Trust 'em if you want, but remember...in this 'net-centric world, we can pretty much post anything we want, and who's going to challenge it? Oh, and as I write this I'm finishing my Coke from McDonald's...I'll have another, please. -

I BREAKED out laughing when I read this... ...and I almost BREAKED my butt laughing my way right out of my chair when I read THAT. -
OK, I'll bite...I can drop a few names... NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle driver Peggy Llewellyn is a good friend of mine, and was/is/will be the technical advisor on my first feature film (if we ever get funding for it). She's hooking me up with media credentials for this season's SuperNationals in Englishtown NJ in exchange for developing her promo video as part of my portfolio (can we say side trip to GADV?)... My wife's maternal grandmother is close friends with Fiona Apple's grandparents, although we've never met. Eric RunningPath, the Native American dancer who solo-performed during the opening ceremonies of the 1984 L.A. Summer Olympics, was a good friend of mine when I lived in San Diego, although we've lost touch (a bit of a falling out). I've met Julius Drum (played Richard Yellowhawk - the guy in the wheelchair - in the Val Kilmer film "Thunderheart"), through my friendship with Eric. Steve and Macile Reevis are old acquaintances, also from my days in San Diego (Steve was the Comanche lead actor opposite Tom Berenger in "Last of the Dogmen"). My father (Peter "Searching Owl" Giove) is a somewhat well-known Native American musician (NAMMY-nominated in 1997 or '98 I think). His out-of-print CD is still available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/7-Generations-Goodoak-Owl/dp/B000B9VJN2/ref=tag_ti_title/002-5123341-2493621 I've met Prince (the artist currently known as) through various infant-bereavement networks. Albert M. Chan, who appears as "Geek Worker" in Disney's "Underdog" (2007), is currently cast in my short film "Love/Hate" as Tommy (currently in production).

New Six Flags Web Site
pete4winds replied to Top Thrill Dragster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll add my $.02: I like the new site layout (although I did like the pick-a-park map), but here are a few of the more comical eff-ups from my home park, SFNE: http://www.sixflags.com/newEngland/Rides/nightwing.aspx - Nightwing...errmmm...I mean Time Warp...or something. http://www.sixflags.com/newEngland/Rides/TimeWarp.aspx - Time Warp, except no photo...apparently SFNE used its Time Warp photo quota already. http://www.sixflags.com/newEngland/Rides/batman.aspx - B:TDK "...five bank turns, two corkscrews and three loops. All topped off with a zero-g roll and drop." OK, I understand the two corkscrews, but where the eff are the second and third loops? I count ONE loop, ONE Immelman, and a zero-g roll that's already been mentioned, so do we count it twice as a loop and a zero-g roll? http://www.sixflags.com/newEngland/rides/ThrillRides.aspx - the "full" list also has some amusing moments when one clicks on each ride name. For example: Cyclone: Take a thrilling spin on the Cyclone—one of the largest, most exciting wooden coasters in the world. Hello? El Toro who? Shivering Timbers what? Define "largest" for me? Nightwing: Same "Time Warp" picture as the ride's page. Scream: The photo on the ride's page is correct, but expand the info on the ride list page to see SFMM's Scream. I can see mistaking one coaster for another, but c'mon folks... -
60 million containers of pet food recalled
pete4winds replied to DeliriumTrigger's topic in Random, Random, Random
Before we all degenerate into utter panic and chaos, let's look at this pres release from the FDA: http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2007/NEW01590.html It SPECIFICALLY says that the recall applies only to foods labeled "cuts and gravy." True, 60 million cans of pet food is a lot of food, but even if you're feeding your pet food from one of these brands, if it's not "cuts and gravy" I wouldn't worry too much. -
Saving Whalom Park? Again???
pete4winds replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ How long does ANY business owner "expect" to stay open when they're still in the early planning stages? I don't know if this can be answered this early in the process. Personally, I'd love to see a new Whalom Park. The original is one of several parks I grew up with (the others being Paragon Park, Lincoln Park - still barely standing a few miles from my house, and King's Castle Land). SFNE is my "home park" these days, and no doubt it's one of the better SF parks, at least in my opinion, but like many eastern New Englanders, I can't get there nearly as often. A new Whalom Park would be much easier for me to get to on a more regular basis. I don't think there's any real risk of SFNE "running it out of business," any more than it risks putting Lake Compounce out of business. It was a combination of a complete lack of support from the town, poor upkeep, and poor management that closed Whalom in the first place, not necessarily SFNE taking all of its business. -
Favorite flat ride?
pete4winds replied to calum666's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My favorite flat ride is this thread right here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1003&highlight=favorite+favourite+flat My second favorite flat is the search button. -
^ Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the subtitle of this thread "that nobody else does..."? I understand you love The Matrix and LOTR series, but it seems to me that everybody else does, too (see worldwide box office figures for details), therefore nullifying their eligibility. Just a friendly observation. My "movie that I love that nobody else does" is "Rad" (1986). "I so wanna go a$$-sliding with you right now." (That's a quote from the movie, not an invitiation...sorry).
