Sometimes, I am just at a loss for words on this board..... but in a good way. Shari "great picture" Shoufler -
I loved the part where the narrator was saying "In August 2004...." and all the construction workers were dressed like "Nanook of the north". I turned to Herb (laughing) and said "Jeez...it must be cold in New Jersey in AUGUST!!" I thought it was pretty interesting, and played up very dramatic. I'm surprised they open their "haunted" attractions in the daytime hours... at PKI they open at approx 6-7 pm (dark). Shari "not that I would know because I don't do scary stuff" Shoufler -

Is that the park R&E went to where all the rides are out in like a little field? Shari "or am I confusing to with one of the other 999,999 parks they have been to?" Shoufler -

I LOVE the picture of Gavin at Hooters.... he is sooo cute! Looks like PGA's kids area has the same HB theming that PKI has (that is soon to be gone). And the orange water is weird, along with the Beetlejuice whale. Shari "looked like Ohio weather there" Shoufler -

Looks like a great time! What was up with the tall, sexy chick.... was that a body suit 'cause it looked like she was popping out of that top! Shari -
It's makes sense, I suppose, but I think it really depends on what sections of the park they will be using. Back in the 80'-90's when they did it (Winterfest) the Coney Mall area was closed except for carriage rides to go through, which frankly, gave me the creeps because I have this weird thing where I don't like to be in the park when the rides aren't going. Anyway, enough of my neurosis..... back to the subject..... I think this is going to be more geared to "entertainment" than thrill rides. Shari
-
Don't count that possibility out.... there was more than one year during the last run of Winterfest where the weather heated up into the high 50s or 60s.... the ice in the rink melted and they went ahead and opened the Beast and a few other rides. I think they are going to have more to do at this Winterfest than in years past.... I am excited to see it! Shari

As usual, it's taken me a week to get this together, but here it is.... First a little backstory... Tasha Wilkie is a college student from here in Cincy, who was diagnosed in 1998 with insulin-dependent diabetes. She is also a huge reality tv fan, and decided to take that interest and turn it into something more. 2 1/2 years ago, she hosted her first Reality4Diabetes fundraiser to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. She flies reality tv show stars in from all over the country to do a weekend's worth of meet and greet events for fans. I have discovered that, despite the fact that Cincinnati is a huge market for the big reality tv shows (Survivor and Amazing Race, which happen to be my favorites) very few "normal" (ok, I consider myself normal) people turn out for these events. Rather, there is a group of people, mostly men, who turn out to support and sponsor this event, and some of them are pretty odd. One guy, I am told, is a Texas oil bizzillionaire who spends all his time traveling the country meeting celebrities and semi-celebrities. Anyway, as big "Survivor" and now "Amazing Race" fans, me and my little one have attended three of the last 4 fundraisers. It supports a great a cause, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in adults, and since I work in the field of ophthalmology, this is a cause I actively support. The most recent event featured "stars" from the last season of "Survivor" and "TAR" along with folks from some other shows and previous seasons. For those of you who are fans of the shows, I hope you enjoy the photos... Shari "Getting my reality tv star credits" Shoufler TAR7's Ray and Deena....now married and expecting! Bianca was on Amazing Race with her friend Debbie...remember how kissy they were? She was that way with us! Kelly "I'll borrow anyone's lipstick just so I'll look good" McCorkle from TAR7 Local Racers Susan and Patrick Vaughn Survivor's Ibrehem Survivor's Coby the hairdresser and runner up Katie!

A Day In The Life Of YOUR TPR Visit!
disneygurlz2s replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I, being computer illiterate, tend to take the easy way out, and click on "view posts since your last visit" and go from there. Usually once or twice a day at work, depending on how busy I am. Usually once in the evening from home. Again, depending on how busy we are, I might visit a few times a day on my days off. Again, I tend to start with "new posts" and go from there. There are just way too many topics on each board to just sit and browse... I am a working mom and wish I had more time to spare! I tend to read things that are either A) with regard to a topic that interests me (ie WDW, PKI, HW, reality tv, news items, people's kids, random TR) B) Written by someone whose posts I enjoy reading (You, Elissa, Soren, Gregg, Julie, Wally and others) and C) sound like something interesting, even if it's not necessarily a topic I think I am interested in. Love to look at all your pictures, old and new... sometimes chat Two things I would love to see..... #1...theme nights in chat and #2 some way of breaking down the topics even more so that maybe there would be subtopics (ie Disney Parks, Midwestern Parks, etc) You guys are great and I really feel like I have become part of such a fun community, even though I am not the typical "coaster enthusiast". I am looking forward to meeting you and Elissa sometime in the future, and would be happy to play tour guide to any of my fellow TPR pals if they come to visit Cincy! (Wally and Karen are already in my datebook for 5/29/06!!) Shari -
Woman gives birth to her 16th child!

^ I wasn't picking on you, just making a point. In today's society, more and more couples are starting their families in their 30's and 40's. I work for a doctor who had twins two years ago, at the age of 43. I don't consider this couple to be THAT old, and considering the older siblings that they have (as I did) to be like "second parents", I would have to say these kids are pretty well off. I don't necessarily thing a parent's attitude towards their children is dictated as much by their age as other factors. I have seen lots of grouchy parents that are 25, and lots of kind, patient parents who are 40. No offense taken.... Shari -
^^^ You forgot they ever popular (must be said in whiny, nasal Chicagoland accented voice) "Thanks for maaaaking me cryyyy guuuys" Those women have to go. They make me nuts.

I can tell you that this has been guests/locals #1 request ("Bring Back Winterfest") since the day Paramount discontinued it a decade ago. I have very mixed feelings, based solely on cost.... Unlike the old Winterfest, which was included in your season pass, the new Winterfest is a separate cost of $18 even for pass holders (general public is something like $24 bucks!!!). I am hoping that for this price it's not only REALLY fun, but also "all inclusive". If you have to pay that, PLUS parking, PLUS pay for stuff like carriage rides, skating, etc, that is going to SUCK. People are already complaining about the price. The Beach Waterpark has been doing a HolidayFest for the past few years and when we went a few years ago, it was insane. You had to pay to park, pay to get in, pay for hayride, pay to feed the farm animals..... luckily we had discounted admission coupons to start with. I am sure we will go at least once or twice, and I know that, as with FearFest years back, they may rethink the separate admission cost after this season, but for this year be prepared for it to cost you $$ to go. ^ My parents were 41 and 45 when I was born-OLDER than her parents are-and I never felt that way. My mother is 80 years old now, and is just retiring from her full time job this week, after 29 years there. Shari -

^^ Julie is absolutely right... these people pay CASH for everything... no government assistance or anything. They are building a 7,000 square foot home-much of which they are building themselves-that will include a commercial kitchen, dormitory style rooms for the boys and girls and 4 washers and 4 dryers in the laundry room. She homeschools all the children, all of whom are trained in a musical instrument. Their opposition to birth control, Real, isn't side effects.... the don't believe in controlling birth!! They believe if you get pregnant, that is what God wants of you, and they acknowledge that their beliefs are not to be anyone else's burden, which is why they work hard to pay their own way. There are lots of families out there that don't have that kind of responsibility. You can say what you want-I admit, I am not much of one for religious fanaticism-but they are all beautiful, healthy, intelligent children, and frankly I wouldn't mind if mine was more like one of theirs. But, then again, I would have to be more like them, which I am not. What blew my mind, is that I go to Kroger's and for a family of 3 I spent $75-$100 a week. They went to the grocery and bought $800 groceries for THE MONTH. The mom admitted they have to go every several days for things like milk and stuff, but then, so do I. Shari "Not for me, but I have to respect them" Shoufler -
No, I didn't, and I was unaware that they had done that kind of work on it as I would have made a point of checking it out. My last visit was July 1998 when my daughter was a month old. I did love the park, and have sooo many great memories of those classic rides and the arcade games, and the old "Tombstone Territory" area in the back. Shari "and I loved the "kangaroo" ride" Shoufler
-
This was my first "big" coaster, and it's a miracle I ever got on another. One word "R-O-U-G-H". It did have some decent airtime, and the park was the kind where the ride-op was smoking a cigarette and talking to his buddies while he was operating it. I think I remember riding 3 to a seat back when our little Catholic school sent the kids choir there for our end of the year picnic. It has been sitting dormant for what? six years now?? And it's probably been at least 10 since I last rode it. The final years of that place it was SO ghetto it was hillarious! Shari "but I miss it" Shoufler
