favorite inverted coaster
Geauga Dog replied to coastervekoma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Afterburn (Carowinds) 2. Banshee (Kings Island) 3. Alpengeist (BGW) - this was my favorite for a long time. I still think that long, swooping first drop is the best drop on an invert 4. Talon (Dorney Park) 5. Raptor (Cedar Point) -
Raging Bull's first drop in the back seat Voyage's triple down Conneaut's Blue Streak's first two hills in the back seat - it's a stand-up coaster! Kennywood's Jack Rabbit double down and Phantom's Revenge's bunny hops next to the station Larson Super Shot drop towers like X Scream at Waldameer Maverick's first drop and the hill before the horseshoe turn/inversions

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I go to parks alone and was appreciative of the single rider line on Diamondback. I was a bit bummed when they turned it into the Fast Lane queue. For me D-back is the best towards the back. Love the feeling of being yanked over the first hill. As for Beast it's a front seat ride but for me if it's any other seat it needs to be a non-wheel seat for the best rides. Nice to see the brighter colors on that Shake Rattle and Roll car. Glad that they kept it instead of permanently removing it. -
All I want is that Premier continues with what Herschend started by not just adding a few rides here and there but also improving the areas around them - new paint, pavement, theming, landscaping - to give each area of the park an identity of sorts since HFE created themed sections a few years ago. I'm hoping Premier won't abandon those theme areas. A new coaster will come in time but for now I'd like to see the flat rides get updated. Rolling Thunder is a step in the right direction.

^It'll be just like 2002 when the large plot of land was walled off and Dragster was starting to rise which makes me wonder if we'll see any vertical construction by Halloweekends. Just got caught up on all the news. 1. Love the colors on the Rougarou car. Very sharp and will look great against the orange track. 2. Surprised about the new Maverick restraints. I never had any issues with the current ones. 3. Happy they are keeping Calypso and renaming it a ride from CP's past. Interesting spot as I would have thought the old Schwabinchen/Chaos location would be more ideal. 4. Yay, the old Turnpike cars are gone! I'll be hated for that comment but I just think it's long overdue. The park has two other car rides for families to enjoy. Though for whatever is going in that spot I see the Cadillac Cars getting rerouted. 5. Despite the increase of attractions along the Wicked Twister midway over the years it still seemed like it needed more and I'm glad it's getting some love this year. -

It looks as if Mack took Intamin's Impulse coaster and added water. Since it has coaster elements I'd think it would be considered one. -
Nice job on the logo and tag line, Doug. Great to hear that you'll be posting construction photos on social media as that has been one area that DL has not been very good at in past years. How many other names were considered before choosing Rolling Thunder? The first thing I thought of was SFGAdv's defunct racing coaster when I saw the name.

If that's what they are adding then I welcome it even though I don't go to the water park. They really need to expand capacity in Splashtown. Even if they were only going to repaint Mind Eraser and Ride of Steel why would anyone complain? It's an improvement we've been wanting to happen for a long time. These two rides are basically the park's billboards.

With Black Widow the seats seem a little more comfortable - at least there seems to be a little more elbow room between riders. Delirium and maXair are more confining. Huss models have a large OTSR while Zamperla has a smaller restraint by comparison. I love both models but if I had to choose I'd easily get the Zamperla Giant Discovery. One other thing - Black Widow does spin in both directions during your ride. -

I don't think Valleyfair would get an SLC since they could have easily received Geauga Lake's at the time of its closing instead of it being shipped to Michigan's Adventure. It was one of the better Vekoma SLCs when it was here in Ohio but not sure how it is when rebuilt in Muskegon. -
When I think of good parks from a design point of view I think of Kings Island. It does follow the basic Disneyland style layout (central path - International Street to a hub - Eiffel Tower) but it sort of was designed as a four leaf clover that has since morphed into a somewhat more circular route around the hub that makes getting around quite easy despite having a lack of transportation from one end to the other. For being a large park it doesn't seem that large when going from, for example, Racer to Diamondback or even Eiffel Tower to The Beast.

Would be quite sad if the Super Loop upstages the Giant Wheel in lighting. I would think under Premier that situation will eventually be fixed and the Giant Wheel will once again light up the night. As for having a large attraction and the effects on traffic I wonder how ROS got approved sixteen years ago or if that was added after the ride was installed.

The helix at the end is rather intense as it is. Backwards would be nuts, especially at night. -

Backwards Banshee - no but I'd like to see backwards Racer again even if it is just for Haunt. -
Looking at the aerial photo of the UFO location in order to fit the new ride in plus add a proper queue a building or two would have to be demolished. In that photo I can see the building(s) to the right of the former UFO ride pad, which I believe had a Subway in it, as the ones that will be removed. I'd love to see Viper's queue get some sort of makeover and maybe move the ride's entrance and a relocated queue to where the mini-golf used to be.

But the difference I've seen, at least at Diamondback last year, is that there is an employee who collects all the loose articles from the riders prior to the next train entering the station. The seatbelts do, IMO, slow the operations but it's so minimal you don't really notice it and that's because that ride has a great crew. -

I disagree. If you're concerned about capacity then explain why Wildcat lasted as long as it did? Family coasters are usually not high capacity rides and given how CP's height restrictions are questionable (see Iron Dragon as an example)it wouldn't surprise me if a new family coaster would have a 48" height limit. If we're going the spinning coaster route a Gerstlauer like Spinning Dragons at WOF would not be a bad addition. -
The Rise of Intamin
Geauga Dog replied to coastercrazy216's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There are quite a few Looping Starships in the U.S. You can find one at Kings Dominion, Carowinds, Busch Gardens Tampa, Valleyfair, and California's Great America. They are one of my favorite flat rides. I believe there was only one Spiral Coaster made and it was located in a mall in the Middle East or Asia. With so many manufacturers offering Ferris Wheels I'd love for Intamin to bring back the Double Swivel Wheel/Tree Triple Wheels (i.e. Zodiac at Kings Island, Sky Whirl at SFGAm).
