^Let me get this straight even though it is farfetched - you'd rather have Cedar Fair run Darien Lake, and they would probably run it similar to Michigan's Adventure, instead of Herschend, who has done some great things for the park despite CNL having the purse strings. Having CF run the park would not promise you're going to see major investments like some of their other parks in the chain have received especially since their most attended seasonal park is only a few short hours away in Vaughn.

LED Lighting On Rides and Midways
Geauga Dog replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love the LED lighting parks have put on their rides but the only thing that should remain incandescent are the chaser lights on roller coasters - it just seems so traditional. I know a lot of parks don't do that to thier wooden coaster but when CP replaced the chasers on Blue Streak to the LED lighting it just doesn't seem the same. I agree with Den Den on that carousel in the pic he posted. IMO carousels look better with soft incandescent lighting. -

^Good to know. I don't do haunted houses as for me Haunt is all about night rides and I haven't back there in ages. -
Steel Phantom or Phantom's Revenge?
Geauga Dog replied to Beau Mitchell's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I never had the chance to ride the original but Phantom's Revenge is one of my top ten favorite steel coasters. -

Instead of building a permanent haunt next to The Beast they could have just gutted the old theater out, put a new façade on the front, and turned it into a permanent haunt. It would have been perfect since the building is somewhat isolated from the rest of the park. -
Busch Gardens Los Angeles

A Busch Gardens with an Asian theme sounds like it would have been a great idea especially now that they have Africa and Old World Europe well represented. -
Arrows, Arrows, Arrows.....
Geauga Dog replied to tarheel1231's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Those older photos of the BGW Arrows are awesome! Thanks for sharing. Another aspect of the early Arrows that I liked were what I call the lattice loop supports like what LNM and CP's Corkscrew have that were no longer being used by the early to mid-80's. I also find it interesting that no one else has tried doing the interlocked loops like what LNM has and what WOF's Orient Express had. -

^Vekoma did make those trains. In fact Vekoma used to have a suspended coaster in their catalog using those trains but have dropped it. As some have stated I, too, would love to see the Arrow suspended coaster make a come back. I wonder if Arrow would still be around if they didn't show Six Flags the 4-D that was still in development at the time since it was X that basically killed them. At the same time I wonder if Arrow could have still kept up with the increasing innovations that were being developed by other competitors. My favorite Arrow loopers still operating are: 1. Vortex - Kings Island 2. Loch Ness Monster - BGW 3. Demon - SFGAm My favorite defunct Arrows are: 1. Drachen Fire - BGW 2. Big Bad Wolf - BGW 3. Shock Wave - SFGAm -

Unlike Six Flags, Cedar Fair doesn't use the same name twice for existing coasters. More than likely they could reuse the Mantis name since it's no longer being used. -

Geauga Dog replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like the new color scheme for the ride. Glad that CP is into recycling as Mantis was not all that great as a stand-up but it is a solid layout for a floorless. I think we'll still have some headbanging in the twisted second half, which is what made Mantis bad IMO, just because of how quick some of those transitions can be. -

^And to think Geauga Lake used to hold an Oktoberfest event ever year right up to closing. Coincidenatlly it would have been held this coming weekend, Sept 19-21. Always a great time to get some night rides since Friday and Saturday the park would close at midnight. Local bands, beer slides, cloggers, polka music, food vendors along the midway - it was awesome tradition. I miss those days...alot. -
Geauga Lake Discussion Thread

They can call it Great Lakes Gardens. Though I had gone to Sea World a couple of times as a kid it was never a draw for me as I got older though I do remember in the later days they tried to basically give away the gate to draw attendance. I will say that the first time I walked through the then SFWoA Wild Life side I was amazed at how nice it looked. At least Six Flags pretty much kept what A-B had done landscaping wise as when you needed a break from the rides it was always nice to walk through the Wild Life side. -

Not unless you build a second load/unload platform specifically for the style of ride you wanted and even if you did that there still would be hardly anyone riding the stand-up trains. -
Revive: The Schwarzkopf and old Huss ride catalogs. Many of the old school flats should be brought back, with new technology of course, and Arrow style coasters. Not revive: Premier spaghetti bowl coasters, i.e. Flight of Fear, Joker's Jinx Kill off: B&M flying coasters since stand-ups are already pretty much dead

Last year I was heading to the Point forgetting that it was the day Pointfest was going on. Took the chausee instead of the main entrance route- and it was bumper to bumper about halfway down. Turned around in one of driveways and headed back home. -
Is it even worth the effort to have Fright Fest for two weekends even though it seems scaled back from previous years? I have always liked Road Rage Cage. I don't normally ride Bear Valley Bumper Buggies if I go during the regular season but if I postpone my trip to later in the year and they have RRC I always make a point of riding it.

Waldameer Discussion Thread
Geauga Dog replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^^Thanks for answering my questions. I'm surprised to hear the Inn at Presque Isle is coming down. When it was first purchased I thought it was odd that Waldameer was going to keep it going as a hotel but I guess it didn't work out well for them. I'm also happy to hear that the park will be open all week now. There have been some Mondays this past summer I contemplated driving out there for some night rides but quickly realized they weren't open. At this rate Waldameer as we know it will be totally unrecognizable by 2020. The growth of this park has been amazing. -

Saw Ed Alonzo at Kings Island at last year's Haunt - excellent show. Some of the things he said during the show may not be suitable for smaller kids' ears but overall it was very entertaining. -
Waldameer Discussion Thread
Geauga Dog replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice...very, very nice. I didn't get to make it out to the park this year but this is going to be great for Waldameer. A few questions. 1. That new entry off Peninsula Road - is that going to lead to parking areas in the back behind Steel Dragon? 2. The new kids area coming in 2016 - will this replace the current kids area next to Ravine Flyer III and open up that space for a new dry ride? 3. It looks like the wave pool has two areas where the waves will come out. Will one side be a like a surfing wave and the other being a more family wave? It also looks like the L. Ruth Express might be rerouted to make room for this. Any hope that Waldameer could stay open an extra weekend after Labor Day? -
On-ride / Lift Hill Soundtrack
Geauga Dog replied to Sharman19's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I absolutely hate the music on the Beast's first lift hill. I like listening to the traditional sound of the anti-rollbacks going up. With Banshee I love Eve's scream at the top of the lift. -

So CP didn't win the Golden Ticket this year? It's about time. There have been quite a few years where I didn't feel it deserved it since the last few years of Kinzel's reign the park had seen quite a downward slide. Made me think he stuffed the ballots. Congrats to Europa Park. Based on the many TPR trip reports it's a park that truly deserves it. -
