  1. That part of Steel Medusa was the most intriguing part of the ride to me and I am glad that RMC is incorporating that into Storm Chaser. Still have yet to ride a RMC even though Goliath is about seven hours away but this will make a KI/KK/HW trip that much better. Congrats Kentucky Kingdom.
  2. Conneaut. I have only visited during the day and it's already a little creepy but the creepiness factor jumps a whole lot more come dusk/night. It's no wonder Ghost Lake is so popular there at Halloween time. At the end of the midway you thought was abandoned used to be the Beach Club, that burned down a couple year's ago and the Hotel Conneaut/beach area would be at the end on the right otherwise it's just as well you didn't venture down there as there is nothing to see (the Chance Toboggan used to be down there and the remains of a Round-Up ride, which I don't know if that was removed). The carousel photos are very nice. It is a beautiful machine.
  3. While a great idea, you don't really get that great of a view of the lake. You do have Peninsula Drive right there leading to Lighthouse Landing, Soak City, and Breakers and considering where the lift hill is located it's not going to give you a spectacular view like what Gatekeeper has done at the front of the park.
  4. Drop Tower isn't bad at all. They do assign seats and if you can get a view facing the Eiffel Tower/park or Banshee you get an amazing view. My ride last Wednesday had me facing Banshee and what an awesome view of the ride from up there. Kings Island's Drop Tower does a single rotation as it begins going up and then it goes up pretty quick until you get to the top where it slows down. Which brings the question - can Intamin program their gyro drops to do more than one rotation going up, like a gyro tower, and then stop rotating just prior to reaching the top?
  5. Being my home park at the time I loved SFWoA but then I may tend to be a bit bias on the subject since I preferred it over Cedar Point due to all the things you could do there. Hit a few rides, take a dip in the water park, then go see the dolphin show, Shouka, the killer whale, the tigers at Tiger Island, or even the Batman Water Thrill Spectacular shows if you needed a break. With the way Six Flags ran the park many will probably say that it was basically your average Six Flags park and in the beginning, in particular the 2000 conversion to Six Flags Ohio, turned a lot of people off. Massive expansion for a park that in reality wasn't prepared for it, bad customer service (which Six Flags seemed to be known for during this time), and exorbitant prices for food and drink. However by 2003 it seemed people were beginning to come back (I used to go every weekend) but by that time it seemed the damage was already done and the numbers continued to drop. The lakeside setting did make for one of the nicest locations for a park, especially if you viewed the ride side from the wildlife side. The park did have one of the coolest coaster skylines from that vantage point. I miss Geauga Lake a lot. It was always a great place to head out to on a Friday night after work as it didn't take me long to get out there from downtown Cleveland, but I miss SFWoA more. To me it was a magical time. BTW, combining Sea World Ohio and Geauga Lake into one park was first brought up back in the mid-80's when HBJ, then owners of Sea World, considered putting the two parks together.
  6. My longest was my California trip in 2001 - two weeks - one week in the LA area (SFMM, Knotts, Disneyland) and then driving up to the Bay Area for a week (SCBB, at the time PGA and SFMW). Second longest was a week in eastern PA in 2005 - Hershey, Dorney, Knoebel's, and SFGAdv. As I've gotten older long trips don't really appeal to me anymore and I just plan shorter trips that may involve one or two parks.
  7. Another great set of photos of a park I have yet to visit and thank you for what I think is the most thorough look at everything DelGrosso's offers. I can't help but notice just how scenic the surroundings are, like the pic of the Pharoah's Fury and the tree filled mountain in the back. The park looks bigger than what the map illustrates.
  8. No, it's the arena at the end of the main entrance plaza where marine animal shows and dive shows have been held over the years. Thanks for the clarification. I was at SFGAdv ten years ago and don't remember seeing that. Now if CP would just do the same with the old Oceana stadium between Windseeker and Wicked Twister.
  9. Is Fort Independence that big structure Runaway Mine Train and the Sky Ride are located in Frontier Adventures? If it is are they trying to retheme that section? I know the oversized teepee and Conestoga wagon are already gone.
  10. Larson is probably the best for its size but the capacity would be terrible at SFDK since only 12 ride at a time.
  11. I really like those Raven and Legend signs. I love it when parks acknowledge their history like that.
  12. Maybe "depressing" wasn't a good choice of words but I think you hit it on the nail that it basically hasn't changed in years. I guess the short Boyertown era didn't really change the park much either except the relocation and addition of Skyliner. I've been to Conneaut a few times and that place does take "depressing" to a whole other level but Blue Streak is so worth going there to ride.
  13. Never been to Lakemont so thanks for the photos as I've wondered what the park looks like. It looks a little "depressing" though the rides seem like they are relatively well taken care of.
  14. I was there today from 10-4 and yes, DB was a bit slow in dispatches and I don't think it's because of the seat belts. I think it's more along the lines of people having to put their stuff in the bins and a few had to go back and get their sandals since they couldn't ride barefoot. I know a couple year's ago (or even last year) they had an op take the belongings prior to letting guests board the train and it seemed like dispatches were a little quicker then. Otherwise I had three great, airtime filled rides in the back seat. Banshee's crew didn't seem to be putting trains out like clockwork today either as they were stacking trains at times. I got stuck on the green train on my first ride since it didn't want to advance through the station to release us so that ended up being a little downtime on the ride. Sat in the middle and didn't notice much rattle but the back seat on my second ride later on it was more noticeable though not distracting from the ride experience (I just love that whip and twist off the first hill). I thought Beast was running quite well today on my three rides. The first two the train didn't catch the chain on the second lift until we were a little past the first maintenance platform but it did seem the shed brakes were a little harder on my third and last ride. Vortex was having issues off an on as it was broke down the first time in the morning and when I walked by it was closed with a train on the lift the second time in early afternoon. Finally opened and got my back seat ride and boy has this ride started to show its age. I've never had what I considered a "bad" ride but today all of Vortex's 28 years was showing. The only other rides I got on were Invertigo, Drop Tower, Racer (blue side), which was my way of paying respects to Thunder Road since I won't be making it to Carowinds this year, and Eiffel Tower. I can't really power ride like I used to but just being in the park and getting the few rides I did get, was fantastic. I also like the new wait time information they now post on the Fun TV's and park directories. I'm also happy they took the music off the Beast's first hill and just have a "Welcome to the Beast" spiel about keeping hands and arms inside the car at all times (you still hear a little bit of the music on the second lift).
  15. I'd rather have the name "Carolina Harbor" than another generic "Soak City".
  16. I agree. The last color CP needs In the skyline is red, yellow and now orange, especially since they painted Rougarou orange though that brown/burnt orange doesn't look that bad unless that's some sort of primer. I like the idea of dark purple since black would look odd in CP's colorful skyline.
  17. I've kind of wondered what would happen after they decided to no longer pay for the licensing and what they would possibly rename them. My vote is 305: Ride of Steel.
  18. Cleveland had the third wettest June on record and though we had a nice stretch of weather around July 4th it seems the pattern we had in June is starting again.
  19. The mother of all close calls - coming out of the sidewinder on SFStL's Ninja. Looks like you will be decapitated by the chain return.
  20. I was looking at a Google Maps aerial of the Shockwave site and then looked at an aerial of SFGAm's X Flight. With a little tweaking of the layout I think it could fit even if it had to cross over the path from the Eiffel Tower towards Blue Ridge Tollway. You would have to relocate Flying Ace, Bad Apple and remove the stadium to make it work though. The only thing is that CF usually goes relatively big with their coaster additions so that wouldn't work.
  21. Someone had mentioned CCI and what came to my mind was the "trick track" on Geauga Lake's Villain. You drop off a considerably good sized second hill and right into it at good speed. After a few years that section would be quite rough, and in Gerstlauer trains to boot, that it became the most unpleasant part of the ride, at least for me.
  22. You can look at it this way - a dive coaster at Cedar Point would only be the third of its kind in the U.S. and the only one in the northeastern part of the country. That alone is a big selling point.
  23. So glad to see Huss is looking back at some of their classic rides and created second generation versions of them. I'd like to see Kings Island add one of these G2 Enterprises and place it exactly where the old Huss Skylab used to be next to Racer's entrance. Like A.J. said I hope they will consider doing more G2 versions of their classic ride catalog. I'd like to add the Tri-Star to the list.
  24. Just read the report and I'm glad that security came in and ejected the family. It's a shame that people today have to resort to threats to get their way, even if they are wrong in the first place. Went to Holiday World nine years ago for Voyage's inaugural season and felt like the park was a bit small. I'm sure things have changed drastically since then but I can't imagine the park being uncomfortably packed.
  25. They should consider doing what Kings Island does and shut down for private outings on the weekends in September before Haunt begins - this way the main season wouldn't be affected.
