Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
cfc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I couldn't agree more. I've been saying for a couple years that they should remove Anaconda, Shockwave, and Hurler. ...and add a B&M and/or an Intamin coaster. I agree 100% that Anaconda should be ripped out, but Shockwave and Hurler? Hurler needs some re-tracking. But Shockwave... It has the 3rd longest line whenever I go to KD. Volcano and FoF always beat it. But Shockwave's line always spills out of the entrance. And when I rode it it wasn't that rough except for that final turnaround before the brakes. I'll grant yout that Hurler has been running better this season (they have done some retracking around the big banked curves at either end). Shockwave's line is usually hideously long because it takes so long to check the restraints and dispatch the trains, so I'm not sure it's a mark of popularity as much as it is a capacity/operations problem. -

Actually, I'd rather have them rip out Anaconda at KD and replace it with that B&M floorless. -
ATTENTION - BIG MIKE rides 500th coaster!
cfc replied to Big Mike's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Correction--499, as I still have no proof that you were actually at the Griffon media day. Perhaps you left it with those bikini-water-park pictures from Spain. Aw, I just like to give you a hard time, Big Mike. Congratulations on number 500. -

It's been on KD's Web site for a while, but they're a little light on the details: http://www2.cedarfair.com/kingsdominion/events/events.cfm. -
Sorry--haven't looked at Screamscape for a while.

Er, it's been running since Mother's Day.

Looks like Euroburg and Knott Paramount's Kings Dominion are both ramping up their Halloween events a bit this year--and that's a good thing. -

^Heck, I desperately want to go there at least once. -

^^I'd also like to add that Robb and Elissa already provide an incredible amount of service--and put in an incredible amount of sweat--on these trips. Adding another layer of options would simply be too much--we're not talking a AAA-sized staff here. -

Disney's Flying Saucers
cfc replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This ride came up in conversation with my older brother, Ward, at WDW back in July. He remembers riding this with Mom back when it first opened, and they never could get the hang of how to make their saucer move. Yeah, an interesting concept that just didn't work out. -

Yep--looks like it was fortunate that I rode Gold Rusher when I did: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07234/811070-42.stm -

I agree completely with your comment about "wheel seats," Tom. I also get sick of enthusiasts saying, "It's a great ride--you just have to know how to brace yourself." If you need a survival manual just to ride a coaster without getting the crap knocked out of you, it's time to replace that coaster. -

Sources? This the first I have heard of this and I can't really see what else they would do with 2nd floor of a games building. Robb alluded to this in my TR; of course, he may have been kidding, and I'm fairly gullible. Looks like it was a helluva tour. -

This TR is like a storyboard for the tour--very well done. -

^Pfft! They've had the "Maze of Madness" for years. It's an asylum in a tent (which would make for some security issues, I think). Of course, this could be an entirely new maze with the same name--but this seems improbable. -

I don't think you can get to that new slab from the Hurler queue, so I'm guessing that the entrance will be elsewhere (but that's just my guess--maybe between Hurler and Hypersonic?). -

I didn't notice, I don't go on that ride much unless i'm with some family or something. I didn't ride it, either (although it is a better-than-average car ride). But you can see the tombstones and stuff from the walkways around it. -
The last concert I saw at a park was at Euroburg years ago when my parents were in town--Mom just had to see Anne Murray. Aghh! PS--take that back. I did sit through the annual doo-wop fest at Euroburg last year, whch was more bearable than Anne Murray. My neighbors kept bugging me to go, so I agreed. Now I never have to sit through it again.

^Which you can get from the same ride at a number of other parks (for example, Batwing at Six Flags America and Borg Assimilator at Carowinds). That being said, I kind of like Batwing, when it's running well.

I respectufully disagree--running the video is neither "ironic" nor "moronic," but it is a nice nod to the park's history (and to the history of amusement parks in general).
