  1. First major rollercoaster in Norway; Thundercoaster (2001) followed by Supersplash (2003) and Speedmonster (2006). During this decade Tusenfryd went from a small family park with a small Vekoma looper as its star attraction to a full-size amusement park. Now we just need some more parks in Norway. The only competition is Liseberg on the other side of the Swedish border. As for technical breakthroughs this is my list: - Intamin hydraulic launch coasters - Prefab woodies - GCI taking their wooden coasters to a whole new level.
  2. For more than 10 years, from 1988 to 2001, this was the only major rollercoaster in Norway. http://rcdb.com/1043.htm
  3. How about not going to a single theme park in 2010..... and 2009??? *hoping for a roadtrip to Germany in 2011
  4. This thread is like a Discovery Channel documentary. "Oh no there is a tiny gap in the track its gonna destroy everything, they might as well just take it apart and go home"...
  5. Crane. Can't wait to hear about testing! Very exciting for sure. March can't come soon enough! thats uhh not what i meant... lol i meant like if the train was consistantly valleying what do they change to stop that from happening? They can experiment a lot with wheel materials. When Tatsu was testing it was going too fast so they changed some of the wheels until they got the speed they wanted. The same technique should be possible to use to make a coaster go faster, unless its already equipped with the fastest wheels possible...
  6. I remember my parents recorder a documentary in the mid 90's which I must have watched a million times. It featured coasters in the US, Japan and UK (mostly pleasure beach). It did not really talk much about specific coasters and very few coaster names were mentioned. I remember particularly at the end it was a part with an old couple who had spent countless hours in their car watching the Big One being built and were very enthusiastic when talking about it. They didnt ride it though. There was also some dramatic shots of the ride with Beethoven Symphonire nr. 5 playing along with it. I would love to see that program again....
  7. Your question made me curious so I checked all the ZacSpin coasters on rcdb.com to see where the guide wheels are located in real life. This picture shows it very well. http://rcdb.com/3676.htm?p=19448 Im not able to tell from the pictures if the guide wheels are included in the model or not. Either way, it looks absolutely amazing. Is it built from pictures only?
  8. Its clearly going to jump the track.
  9. Hehe for a second I thought "When did they build that crazy looking hill on the right?" Then I realised it was Titan....
  10. Holy crap this is creapy as hell!!!
  11. I bought a new HD camera this summer and since there are no rollercoasters in this part of Norway Ive been out filming alot of trains. Check out my youtube account for many more videos like this http://www.youtube.com/user/MrYoung86
  12. About a month ago I started my new job as a Product Quality Engineer at Wema System. Wema is Europes largest provider of fuel/AdBlue/water tank sensors. My job is to analyze sensors which are returned from the customers and help to find solutions. www.wema.no
  13. Dont forget that theres a lot more spinning rides in the world than rollercoasters.
  14. I have already won $60 on Germany beating England and Argentina. Now I just hope they win the final so I can win another $20.
  15. (the drop is shown from two different angles) Okay I know its not a rollercoaster, but its the closest thing Ive been on in nearly 2 years. It doesnt look like much in the video, but these boats are huge so the height is greater than it seems. Would have loved to try the top one...
  16. Actually SoB had wood track in the loop. The difference was that it was attached to a steel structure. It can clearly be seen in this picture http://www.coasterimage.com/pictures/albums/_wallpaper/sonofbeast_1280.jpg
  17. Yes! Heres a video of the other one, by the same guy who did the POV of the single-pipe alpine coaster.
  18. ^I rode it in 2005 and its one of the scariest rides Ive ever been on. Actually the youtube video a few posts earlier was taken by another ECC member on the same trip. Check out this post from my trip report to see a few pictures of the ride http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=145391#p145391 I didn't get many shots of the ride, but there is one picture towards the end which shows what the cars look like.
  19. Since were already talking about B&M's and weird sounds.... does anyone know the reason behind the banging noise on Superman la Attracion de Acero? It can be heard in every single onride video I have seen of the ride.
  20. - Favorite new coaster El Toro/Storm Runner - Favorite new ride Starflyer @ Prater Park - Favorite new park Warner Bros Movie World Madrid - Most memorable park moment Unfortunately its not a positive one. Shutting down every outdoor ride at SFGADV for 90 mins because of some thunderstorms far away. Above the park it was nothing but sun and clear skies. - Most memorable coaster moment I cant decide between riding Wild Train @ Strasswalchen 37 times in one day or riding Thundercoaster in the rain in april 2006. Wild Train was tons of fun, while Thundercoaster in the rain was just the most insane coaster experience ever. Riding Kingda Ka in the front seat is also one of the highlights, although it was mostly a blur. - Best ERT session ERT on Wild Train @ Strasswalchen followed by ERT on the bumper cars with the funniest park manager ever. - Least favorite coaster Magnus Colossus - Least favorite ride The Mondial Roll-Over @ Tusenfryd. I was not surprised that it was removed fairly quickly. There was also an accident where a rider fell off the ride and was injured. - Least favorite park Movie Studios Park, Italy. I know TPR had a blast, but the fact that we had to spend half an hour on each ride waiting for it to open didnt make it a great day. - Most interesting ride you've seen introduced Intamin ball coaster - Least interesting ride you've seen intoduced Many of the B&M's built the last 10 years havent really been very interesting, but there are a few exceptions. - Your favorite TPR moment (favorite post, trip report, video, whatever!) Getting my Gröna Lund trip report on the front page. - The decade's biggest flop Son of Beast - The decade's biggest success Intamin - The best/worst meal you've had at a park Cant remember having any particularely memorable meals at parks, but the food at Knoebels was really good value for its low price.
  21. Speedmonster at Tusenfryd is great to watch. The pretzel loop around the escalator looks fantastic, and theres a viewing platform right next to the launch. This also gives a great view of the return trip. http://rcdb.com/3245.htm?p=15806 http://rcdb.com/3245.htm?p=17081
  22. Actually Katun isnt the only one: Alpengeist Great Bear Phaethon Talon But yes, it does look a bit weird...
  23. The second hill on Wild Train @ Erlebnispark Strasswalchen is suspended from the lifthill.
  24. Having been on Wild Train @ Erlebnispark Strasswalchen I can confirm that. That ride has some of the craziest ejector air I have ever experienced. It really is quite violent, but I totally loved it. I rode it almost 40 times in a day and left the park with some major bruises on my thighs.
