  1. ^^I totally know what you mean, Jason. After hearing both the hype and the criticism and taking both seriously at times, and finally visiting the park myself, I can say it's one of my favorites. Beautiful setting, convenience in the form of Hotel Breakers, and plenty to do on and near the property. I've never done so much non-park and non-ride stuff with a theme park as my base, and I didn't even take advantage of that much! After my one-day credit run, I only re-rode a few coasters during the next two days, and spent the rest of my riding time hitting both iconic and generic flats. Plus I enjoyed a rather intense hibachi restaurant as a break from the terrible park food, checked out some Challenge Park attractions, and spent time just taking in the park atmosphere (which I especially love at night). While I do feel that a number of coasters are mediocre or only slightly above average, my top four (Maverick, TTD, MF, and Raptor) plus several other solid contenders and just plain fun coasters help "carry" the park for me. And I do love quantity when it comes to coasters; there's something satisfying about conquering more coasters in a day than you could just about anywhere else, not to mention being so thoroughly surrounded by track.
  2. Haha, I am all about having a coaster-nerdy sig. For example, currently I'm featuring: wood top 10, steel top 10, links to my two favorite counting site profiles, and Club TPR banner with fully accurate count based on my personal methods (since CoasterCounter is the only site where mine is exactly right; even my CoasterCount count is off a little). I know no one "really" cares about this stuff, and it's entirely possible few people care at all, but I like the opportunity to share it publicly for those who may be interested. More fun than just keeping it in my brain.
  3. Although coming up with an actual answer is beyond me, maybe you can draw some conclusions from my rankings: 01. Medusa (floorless) 02. Tatsu (flying) 03. Raging Bull (mega) 04. Batman: The Ride, SFOT (inverted) 05. Flight Deck, CGA (inverted) 06. Superman: Ultimate Flight, SFGAdv (flying) 07. Talon (inverted) 08. Diamondback (mega) 09. Hydra (floorless) 10. Vampire (inverted) 11. Raptor (inverted) 12. Wildfire (sitting) 13. Silver Bullet (inverted) 14. Goliath, SFFT (inverted) 15. Bizarro (floorless) Out of my 33 B&M coasters, 21 are in my top 50 steel. Apparently, when it comes to me and steel coasters, tame is the name of the game, surprisingly (with plenty of exceptions).
  4. ^They'd better be serious about that. Even without fire, it would look ultra-cool, but with it? Completely amazing.
  5. I'm pretty sure I just learned today that sometimes clothing pockets are sewn shut by the manufacturer. I knew it's recommended for consumers to remove pockets on some items so they drape better, but not this. This raises questions about items I've had in the past that had what I'd assumed were false pockets.
  6. Sounds like a thrilling enough addition to the park, and the views should indeed be interesting. I've had mixed experiences with pendulum rides, but this sounds like it could easily be one of the better ones. My favorite Frisbee-style ride is Sidewinder at Adventureland in Iowa, a scarily intense Moser model. Huss Frisbees can be hit-or-miss; they're often much tamer than they appear to be, and the restraints can be awkward.
  7. 1. Coaster (Playland) 2. Giant Dipper (SCBB) 3. Cyclops 4. Wooden Warrior 5. Yankee Cannonball I've ridden over 20 coasters that fall into this category, but these five are the only ones in my top 25 woodies.
  8. Wow, what a shame. Thankfully I don't believe I ever got too hyped about the idea of riding this. S&S isn't perfect, but they do have some accomplishments to be proud of; I'm a fan.
  9. I'm still not a fan of Vekoma. But there are now...five Vekoma coasters I give decent ratings to: Aftershock, Deja Vu, Firehawk, Invertigo, and Invertigo. And while I no longer bother trying to tell Boomerangs apart (though there are several slightly fun ones), I do have a special favorite SLC: The Great Nor'Easter.
  10. Monster's Ball - Twiztid The horror's been here waiting just for you!
  11. I may not have current plans to visit this park, but I am SO ready to ride this. I was a bit taken aback by the "Wodan" name until I realized I hadn't been overly attached to "Mythos" anyway.
  12. I like planes and I always enjoy seeing them used as theming, but I've never known anywhere near enough about them to be able to 'spot' them, so this works fine for me!
  13. I'd like to be optimistic, but Aftershock generally amplifies the headache the wooden coasters at Silverwood usually give me, and that's at a park that has dedicated itself to addressing some of the issues with GIBs. So I'm inclined to think it's one of those coaster types that just can't be smooth for long, if ever. In short...a Vekoma.
  14. Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis - Wurlitzer 146 Carousel Organ Unless I killed my speakers or need to change some kind of setting, I guess this organ is an acquired taste. Some of the instruments just do not sound right. Ah, now I see others have complained about the drums and bass. Too bad, sometimes those are the best part.
  15. I've never experienced the infamous Premier OTSRs (and I'm grateful not just for being able to miss the pain, but also because I love Premier coasters). But knowing how rough GIBs can be, I can see the cause for concern about these restraints. I'm interested in seeing how they look "on" in real life...and, perhaps, eventually finding out how they ride.
  16. Stars and Stripes Forever (by John P. Sousa) - Seabreeze Park Wurlitzer Band Organ Style 165 The is the best CD I have purchased all year.
  17. I too fear that lines could frequently be very long, and I'll be prepared for the worst when I go to ride it unless reports from comparable days suggest there's no need to worry. But I have had great luck with very popular rides having short-to-manageable lines, even without obsessive strategizing.
  18. ^^^Agreed. I know some (all?) Six Flags parks have been moving away from their family-oriented phase, but it still makes sense to offer a variety of thrill levels. Also, capacity was my main issue with THBS, and they're clearly not taking away that problem. Is there a chance that Six Flags Mexico simply "needs" the coaster much more than SFDK? They do have a Dark Knight wild mouse and a couple small family coasters already, though...
  19. Well, good news for me. I recently discovered that checking your heart rate during the day will only get you your "ambient heart rate". You determine resting heart rate by checking it right after waking up, before moving around. Mine was 70 bpm today, and I was relieved that it turned out to be reasonable. Hopefully caffeine and stress are the main reasons my ambient heart rate is 30 beats higher.
  20. Interesting news. It's hard to miss all the reports that this ride is extremely rough, so I'm glad they're helping it out. I'm not sure how I feel about Topper Track; on the SFNE Cyclone (which is not a Cy-Clone), it seemed a bit...screechy. Looking forward to checking out this technology further while enjoying this infamous ride.
  21. I'm excited by the competition aspect and what that will bring to the region, and I'm looking forward to hearing about the coasters, even if none will be major. I think it makes sense to make this largely different from the Florida version, since extreme Potter fanatics would probably love to see as much of the books brought to life as possible. Same here.
  22. I love how this is coming together. It looks, dare I say, magnificent. I appreciate the thoughtful attention they are devoting towards theming. It's hard (albeit possible) to go wrong with a GCI and I'm sure this will deliver.
  23. This does sound like an ARM tower. They don't need to be tall to be consistently exciting, although the 90' models do feel 'little' to me. I like the extra height on the 140' ones at places like Silverwood and Scandia.
  24. I am slightly...concerned by the number of parks I have visited this year. Here is the up-to-date list I've maintained in this thread. End-of-year stats: - 199 new credits. Yes, I could still make it 200, but I don't believe I care to, and besides, 199 is a cool number too. - 214 coasters. - 51 parks (places where I rode at least one permanent coaster). - 6 carnivals, counting Puyallup Fair. - Even more exciting nonsense.
  25. Oh, mine has been terrible for years! Or maybe not...Google results are inconclusive. It's 100 bpm. I'm bad at calculating it myself, so I found out when I checked my blood pressure the other day. (Shockingly, my blood pressure is still...normal!) I'll admit I didn't do the recommended 15 minutes of relaxation beforehand, but I'm not sure it mattered. Caffeine intake is one factor.
